Harem System In A fantasy World

Chapter 420: Silvergrove City

During the early hours of the next day, ten winged mounts descended from the sky and touched down just outside the gates of Silvergrove City.

During the journey, Elion had learned that the airspace above most cities was heavily restricted. Flying over a city without express permission invited severe punishment from the city’s law enforcement, so even Maya’s escort had to land outside the walls and enter properly through the gates.

Honestly, he didn’t believe that they didn’t have the authority to do such a thing; he was more inclined to believe that this was all some sort of front they put up.

Acting humble and seemingly not abusing their authority to circumvent the city’s laws, even if you could, would probably be seen as a redeeming quality among the common populace.

But then again, he could be wrong, perhaps they really didn’t have that kind of power, or they were just stickler to the rules, or something else was at play. There was no need for him to think too deeply about it.

From what Elion had seen while they were still approaching from the distance, Silvergrove seemed like a city built on the easternmost fringes of the Great Forest. Because of that, there was green everywhere.

Trees, vines, gardens, moss-covered rooftops, and long stretches of greenery woven between the buildings.

A massive wall surrounded the entire city, and given how close it stood to the forest, that did not seem unusual. After all, the group had been attacked by more than a couple of flying beasts on their way here, though dealing with those had been an easy affair.

Unlike Haven, with its rising terrain and grand layered districts, Silvergrove was built across a flat landscape. Its structure was also vastly different.

The streets were arranged in visible concentric circles, spreading outward from the city’s centre. The outer districts looked rougher and more crowded, while the deeper one looked, the cleaner, richer, and more orderly the city became.

It was not difficult to guess where the privileged lived.

There was no castle visible anywhere within the city, but that was expected. Silvergrove was nowhere near the capital in terms of architecture. Even so, it was large in its own right, covering a massive stretch of land filled with bustling streets and constant movement.

The moment their mount landed, Zenovia wasted no time getting off and distancing herself, looks like she had had enough of him already.

Uta, meanwhile, glared at Elion with a deep scowl on his face for what must have been the hundredth time during the journey.

The sight seemed to amuse Yaana. Once the mounts were taken away, she approached Elion with a light skip in her step.

"Do not mind my brother," she said cheerfully. "He is still grumbling after the humbling defeat you handed us, not once but twice; his ’manly’ pride must have been gravely wounded." She laughed lightly.

Elion looked at the young girl as she leaned forward slightly with her hands linked behind her back. If he didn’t know any better, he might have thought she was trying to show him hints of her cleavage, but he just assumed she was always this easygoing.

So he just gave her a kind smile. He did not feel bad for beating the shit out of them that time, but he was rather curious about their story.

The pair did not seem to possess an affinity toward any specific element, like most people. Yaana had displayed unnatural physical ability, while Uta’s unusual limbs and frightening healing ability seemed to be his signature. Perhaps it was an inherited set of abilities.

Even now, the dark, gloomy aura surrounding Uta had never fully vanished. Elion could still see it rising faintly around his form, even with his ability inactive. No doubt it was invisible to everyone else, but to Elion’s eyes, the sight was deeply unsettling.

It made his stomach churn slightly since the aura looked like some sort of sickness clinging to Uta’s body.

Elion suddenly realised he had remained silent for too long.

Yaana was blinking at him curiously, her head tilted to the side as though wondering what had made him space out.

"It is no problem," Elion said with a smile.

He was about to say more when Yaana suddenly looped her arm around his. She giggled and skipped forward, pulling him along as though this was the most natural thing in the world.

Elion blinked.

With Yaana’s carefree and bright aura, he would never have guessed that she had once threatened to slice his bowels open twice if he had not witnessed it himself.

Her personality was perhaps one of the oddest he had encountered. And sure enough, if he ended up joining these people, he was definitely going to ask about the siblings’ story.

Since they had been chosen to enter the trials by whatever authority led this organisation they were a part of, they were most likely among the most talented youngsters the Triad Alliance possessed. His previous battle against them had already shown what they were capable of.

It was just unfortunate for them that they had ended up facing him of all people. He could still remember them giving Aeron, Zenovia, and Maya a hard time, though Maya had not truly been trying since she had been pretending to be on their side back then.

When the others saw Elion and Yaana approaching with their arms linked, and the latter happily pulling him along, several eyebrows were raised.

Especially Maya and Zenovia’s. One could imagine the sort of expression Zenovia was making.

Elion did his best to keep a neutral expression while Yaana hummed a light tune beside him.

Marilyn sighed and pointed toward the guarded gates, "Let us go inside." Perhaps she was already used to this kind of thing from Yaana.

Uta clicked his tongue and tried to scold his sister, only for Yaana to stick out her tongue and throw a rather hurtful jab at him.

"Big Brother Elion is stronger than you, so he can protect me better than you can."

Uta’s expression darkened, "But I am your real brother," he muttered under his breath and looked down at the ground with an aggrieved expression as they approached the manned gates.

Unsurprisingly, the group did not join the long queue of people waiting to be cleared by security. They simply walked past it.

A few of the guards recognised Maya’s escort and quickly moved to allow them through.

The commoners and merchants waiting in line grumbled immediately. Some cursed under their breath. Others complained openly about the favouritism shown to nobles and influential organisations.

But as expected, all they did was shout from their orderly lines and nothing more. And so, under the annoyed gazes of the waiting crowd, Elion and the others entered Silvergrove City.
