Chapter 224: Passive Enchantments
Chapter 224: Passive Enchantments
Elion sat down for a moment, tuning out the noise in the waiting room as he focused inward, pulling up the system store and quietly going through the list of items that could help Aria in her upcoming fight.
His expression remained calm, but his thoughts were sharp. He filtered through the options quickly, skipping over the lower-grade items without even considering them, until he narrowed everything down to the highest grade he could reasonably afford right now.
Epic grade items, the same tier as the rings he had given the girls a while ago, and thinking about those rings made him pause for a brief moment.
They really liked them.
He had not seen Mira or Aria without those rings on their ring fingers at any point, not during training. They wore them like they were something far more than just equipment, and that thought made him smile faintly.
’I should have given one to Celeste too…’
The thought lingered briefly before he pushed it aside.
’This… should be standard from now on. A ring for all my women.’
His focus returned to the items in front of him. He had already narrowed the choices down to three.
The first was a necklace that could reflect any mana-based attack from a high mage or lower.
He frowned slightly at that. It would be easy to tell that this was not part of the user’s strength; he needed something that would work as a passive boost, like the black rings.
A boost to something that already existed.
Even if it was as significant as a thirty percent increase, it still relied on the user. So anyone who saw their strength without closely inspecting the ring itself would pass it off as the mage’s own power and good control.
Honestly, he didn’t know if using external items that were not tied to the user’s own strength, active tools that could directly interfere with the flow of a fight in a way that would raise questions.
Would it be considered cheating? But that was probably the case, given that potions and the like had been restricted.
The next was a ring that could store and release attacks on command.
Again—
He shook his head slightly.
These were powerful, no doubt, but they still crossed that line. While the tournament rules were not explicitly stated in that regard, it was better not to push it.
’Those would look like cheats.’
Then his gaze settled on the third option.
A pair of earrings shaped like crescent moons.
[Enchantments]
[Passive Healing]
[Passive Debuff Resistance]
[Passive Ailment Resistance]
His eyes narrowed slightly as he read through the description again.
’This is one is perfect.’ It would be enough to counter subtle interference. Enough to reduce the effectiveness of poison, paralysis, or anything underhanded.
“…Yeah.”
That was the one.
Without hesitation, he confirmed the purchase. 12,000 system points vanished instantly. The earrings appeared in his storage.
Elion exhaled lightly. ’That should be enough.’
He just needed to make sure Aria had them before her fight.
It was around midday now, and based on the current pace of the tournament, Aria’s match would most likely be in the next rotation, which meant they still had some time, since the fourth years were currently on stage and those fights always took longer.
So realistically, they had at least an hour or so before her group would be called
Elion considered just handing her the earrings right there in the waiting room; it would have been simple, quick, and efficient, but the more he thought about it, the more it felt off.
Pulling out a pair of immaculate, clearly expensive earrings out of nowhere and asking her to wear them immediately would definitely draw attention, and while most people might just assume he was just a wealthy young man spoiling his woman, Elion had naturally grown cautious, especially after everything that had happened to him.
’No need to make it obvious.’
So instead—
“Aria.”
He spoke calmly, cutting into the girls’ conversation. They all turned toward him.
“Yes, El?” Aria replied instantly, her face brightening with a soft smile as she looked at him. Elion returned a faint smile before speaking again.
“Do you want to go into the city with me for a bit?”
Aria tilted her head slightly, thinking for a second. “Of course,” she said, but then added, “but I have a match soon.”
“It’s fine,” Elion replied without hesitation, his tone relaxed, “we’ll be back before the next round begins, we won’t take long.”
She nodded. “Okay.”
That was all it took. Elion stood up smoothly, already turning toward the exit.
The others gave him questioning looks, especially Mira, whose eyes lingered on him for a moment longer than the rest.
“We’ll be back in a bit,” Elion said simply when he noticed her confusion.
Mira nodded. “Don’t take too long.”
Elion led the way out.
They walked through the tunnel and out into the city. Not long after, the shift in atmosphere was immediate as the noise of the arena faded behind them and was replaced by the lively hum of Grimholt’s streets.
The entire way, Aria had her hand wrapped around Elion’s, clinging to him and pressing her breasts to him without any intention of letting go, all the while humming softly to herself like she didn’t have a care in the world.
Elion glanced at her briefly, a faint smile forming on his lips before he looked ahead again, and since it was just about lunchtime, he decided to stop somewhere simple rather than anything extravagant, leading her into a small but comfortable shop that sold light meals and sweets.
They took a seat, and instead of ordering a full-course meal, Elion simply asked for a few sweet treats, knowing full well what Aria preferred, and while she tilted her head slightly in curiosity at first, she didn’t question it, just watching him with a bright, expectant gaze.
Once the food arrived, Elion didn’t waste time.
He reached into his storage.
And brought them out.
A pair of silver, crescent-shaped earrings, delicate and elegant, that caught the light subtly as he placed them on the table in front of her.
“These are for you.”
Aria froze.
Then her eyes lit up instantly.
“El—!”
Before he could even say anything, she shot up from her chair and jumped at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing her plump lips against his in a quick, excited kiss as she hugged him tightly.
“Thank you!”
Her voice was full of completely unrestrained pure joy.
A few of the other patrons nearby glanced over with less than pleasant expressions, clearly annoyed or uncomfortable with the sudden display, but Elion didn’t care in the slightest, chuckling softly as he wrapped an arm around her waist and hugged her back for a moment before gently patting her.
“Go and sit down,” he said lightly.
Aria nodded quickly and returned to her seat, though she was still practically bouncing in place as she picked up the earrings carefully, her eyes sparkling.
Elion leaned back slightly and explained calmly.
“They have a few enchantments as well,” he said, keeping it simple but clear, “passive healing, and resistance against debuffs and ailments. It’s not perfect, but it should be enough to help out a bit.”
Aria listened closely, her expression softening as she understood immediately. She knew why he was doing this.
She would be fighting William soon, and Elion was worried about her. That thought alone made her smile even brighter.
“I’ll use them well,” she said softly, her voice sincere as she looked at him, “and I’ll treasure them for the rest of my life.” Her eyes were twinkling.
Before he could respond, she immediately put them on, adjusting them carefully as they settled against her ears, the crescent shapes glinting faintly as she moved.
Then she went straight for the sweets, attacking them without restraint and humming happily as she ate. She felt completely content, completely at ease, her earlier excitement not fading in the slightest.
’I really am the happiest girl alive…’
The thought came naturally as she took another bite, her eyes drifting toward Elion with quiet affection.
’Getting spoiled like this by my husband…’
