Chapter 1161 – Cursed Guard [Part 3]

An orb bounced from the ceiling.

The royal guard saw it coming.

Unlike the feral demons upstairs, he didn’t stare stupidly at the approaching black sphere or attempt to slap it away. His sword immediately swept upward, royal energy coating the blade as he sliced straight through the orb.

The explosion swallowed his upper body.

He emerged from the smoke almost immediately.

His armor was scorched, but intact.

Lux’s eyebrows rose.

Finally.

Competent employees.

The second orb came from behind.

The guard sensed it, spun, and erected a crimson shield.

Unfortunately, Lux’s Demonic Orbs weren’t exactly known for respecting dignity.

The sphere struck the ceiling.

Bounced off.

Hit the floor.

Changed direction.

And slammed directly into the guard’s ass.

-BOOM!

The explosion launched him forward.

Runa blinked.

Lux stared.

Even Vaelor paused.

The guard landed on his face.

There was a brief, sacred silence.

Runa slowly looked at Lux. "Did you intentionally—"

"No." Lux’s lips twitched. "Although I’m taking credit."

The guard surged back onto his feet with enough fury to suggest his pride had suffered considerably more damage than his body.

"YOU—!"

Lux raised one dagger. "Me."

The guard charged.

So did the others.

And this time, Lux immediately understood why Kaelmor had stationed them here.

These weren’t ordinary royal soldiers.

The pressure released by all five demons simultaneously made the entire underground corridor tremble. Crimson formations appeared beneath their boots, royal authority reinforcing their bodies while black-red energy wrapped around their weapons.

One vanished.

Lux’s eyes narrowed.

Fast.

The guard appeared directly in front of him, sword already descending toward his skull.

Lux didn’t move backward.

His left dagger rose diagonally.

Steel collided.

The royal sword carried enough force to split the floor beneath Lux’s boots.

Yet Lux remained standing.

His wrist rotated.

That tiny movement changed the angle of the guard’s blade, guiding the sword harmlessly past Lux’s shoulder.

Lux stepped inside his reach.

The second dagger stabbed toward the man’s ribs.

The guard twisted.

Lux changed direction mid-thrust.

His blade scraped across armor, found the seam beneath the breastplate, and slipped through.

The guard grunted.

Lux pulled the dagger free before the man could grab his wrist.

Blood followed.

Not enough.

The wound immediately began closing.

"Regeneration?"

The guard smiled. "His Majesty’s blessing."

Lux’s expression flattened. "Of course it is."

Because apparently Kaelmor’s employment package included stolen immortality samples.

The guard swung again.

Lux ducked.

His right dagger flashed across the man’s thigh.

The left followed through the opposite side.

Two cuts.

Same muscle.

The guard stumbled.

Lux’s tail struck his knee.

The leg bent.

Lux drove one dagger through the guard’s shoulder and used the embedded blade as leverage to pull him downward.

Then his other dagger punched directly through the man’s palm when he tried to block.

The guard screamed.

Lux leaned closer. "Regenerate that."

He ripped both blades free.

Across the corridor, Runa was having significantly less fun.

A female royal guard moved almost as quickly as Lux had under Agility.

Runa punched.

The woman slipped sideways.

Her elbow struck Runa’s ribs.

Runa hissed.

A crimson blade followed.

Runa barely avoided having her throat opened.

She jumped backward.

The woman pursued. "Cat."

Runa’s ears twitched.

The guard smiled. "I wonder how many lives you have left."

Runa’s eye twitched. "Oh, you shouldn’t have said that."

She attacked.

Their fists collided.

Runa was driven backward.

The royal guard’s smile widened.

Then Runa grabbed her wrist.

"What—"

Runa yanked her forward and headbutted her.

-CRACK!

The woman staggered.

Runa punched her stomach.

Once.

Twice.

The guard managed to block the third and drove her knee into Runa’s abdomen.

Runa slid backward.

Both women immediately charged again.

Meanwhile, Vaelor had found the third guard.

Unfortunately for the guard, they recognized each other.

The demon laughed. "Well. Look at you."

Vaelor stopped.

"You."

"Oh?"

The guard tilted his head. "You remember me?"

Vaelor’s claws curled.

Lux noticed the change immediately.

That wasn’t ordinary anger.

Something inside Vaelor simply opened.

The guard smiled. "I used to bring His Majesty’s extraction team down here."

Vaelor’s gold eye went empty.

The guard continued. "Your princess screamed beautifully."

Lux stopped fighting for half a heartbeat.

Runa did too.

They both looked toward him.

The atmosphere changed.

Vaelor moved.

The guard raised his weapon. Too late.

Vaelor’s fist hit his face.

The guard flew through a stone railing.

Vaelor followed.

He caught him before he landed.

Then smashed him into the wall.

-BAM!

Again.

-BAM!

Again.

-BAM!

And again.

The guard tried to stab him.

Vaelor caught the sword with his bare hand.

The blade cut through his palm.

He didn’t care.

He snapped it.

The guard’s eyes widened.

Vaelor grabbed his face. "You..." His claws dug into the helmet. "...touched her."

He slammed the man’s head into the wall.

Once.

"You came here."

Again.

"You opened that door."

More.

"You held her down."

The wall cratered.

Lux slowly leaned away.

Runa did the same.

Neither said anything.

Vaelor roared and threw the guard across the corridor.

The man bounced once.

Vaelor was already there.

He stomped on the guard’s chest.

Armor buckled.

The guard coughed blood.

Vaelor lifted his foot again.

Another stomp.

The floor cracked.

Vaelor picked the guard up by one leg and swung him into a pillar.

Then the opposite pillar.

Runa visibly cringed. "He’s angry."

"Very perceptive."

The guard attempted to activate regeneration.

Vaelor noticed.

His expression became horrifyingly calm.

He grabbed the man’s arm.

Then bent it backward.

The joint snapped.

The guard screamed.

Vaelor moved to the other arm.

Lux turned his head slightly. "I’m beginning to feel underdressed for this level of violence."

Another royal guard came toward Lux.

He was enormous, carrying a double-headed axe wrapped in royal fire.

He swung.

Lux raised Barrier.

The shield held, but it made Lux slide half a meter.

The demon smiled.

Lux smiled back. "Cute."

He dropped the barrier.

The guard wasn’t expecting that.

The axe suddenly fell forward with no resistance.

Lux stepped around it.

His left dagger entered beneath the guard’s armpit.

His right blade stabbed into the opposite shoulder.
