Chapter 1082 – Kingdom of Obsession [Part 4]

Kaelmor moved.

The earth spears screamed toward him, jagged and golden with Runa’s fury, but he slipped through them like smoke wearing a demon’s smile. One spear grazed his shoulder. Blood sprayed black across the dawn light. He did not stop.

Runa slammed both palms down.

The ground exploded.

Stone pillars burst upward, trying to crush him between them, but Kaelmor shattered one with his bare fist, flames crawling over his knuckles. Dust and sparks swallowed the field.

Then the earth beneath Runa’s boots hardened.

Her eyes widened.

She tried to step back.

Could not.

Stone crawled over her feet like hungry hands.

"No!"

Her mana roared. The first binding cracked apart. Another rose. She blasted it away. A third coiled around her ankles.

Kaelmor walked toward her through blood, dust, and dawn, beautiful, ruined, monstrous.

"If I cannot have your heart," he whispered, "then I will keep your defiance."

Runa’s eyes widened with fury. "You coward."

Stone climbed her calves.

She burned it away.

It returned thicker.

She dragged mana from the ruined foundations, from the soil, from the deep veins of the earth itself. Golden light burst around her, cracking the air.

For a moment, she was magnificent.

Runa Delacour, greatest human sorcerer of her age, standing amid the ruins of obsession, refusing to kneel.

Kaelmor smiled.

And changed the spell.

Compression.

Binding.

Transformation.

The ruined tower foundations responded.

Runa understood too late.

He was using the broken towers.

Using her sabotage and the fractures she had planted.

He turned every flaw into a net.

Stone rose around her like walls.

Runa screamed a spell that split three foundations open.

Kaelmor staggered. Blood darkened his lip.

She smiled through rage.

But the stone kept coming.

Around her arms.

Her waist.

Her ribs.

Cold.

Heavy.

She looked at him one last time.

Not pleading.

Hating.

"Kaelmor," she said, voice trembling with power, "if you do this, whatever you love in me will die."

His eyes flickered.

For one breath, he looked almost human in his regret. Then he whispered, "Then I will preserve what remains."

The stone swallowed her scream.

The world became weight.

Silence.

Darkness.

A tower rose where she had stood.

Not one of his nine hundred ninety-nine.

A new one.

A single cursed tower with a statue sealed inside, hidden beneath layers of stone and demonic grief.

Dawn touched its peak.

The rooster cried again.

Kaelmor stood before the tower, breathing hard, face pale, eyes empty.

He had lost the challenge. So he made a prison and called it memory.

Inside the stone, Runa remained conscious.

Furious.

Awake.

Her last free thought before centuries closed around her was not fear.

It was promise.

One day, I will break.

Runa’s eyes snapped open.

Her chest rose sharply.

For one brutal breath, she could still feel stone around her ribs.

Her fingers twitched.

Runa blinked fast, forcing the past back into its grave.

A dream.

No, not just a dream.

A memory.

The kind of where the soul vomited up when the body finally rested enough to stop fighting.

Her heart still hammered.

Her skin felt damp with phantom terror. Her throat ached as if she had screamed for centuries and only now remembered how to breathe.

Then she realized what she was lying on.

Not mattress.

Lux.

The demon was asleep beneath her.

Runa slowly lifted her head.

His head rested against the pillows. One arm had fallen loosely around her back, not gripping, merely there, as though his body had decided she might fall and needed quiet insurance. His black hair was messy over his forehead. His shirt was rumpled, collar slightly open, exposing the line of his throat and a glimpse of firm chest.

Runa stared.

This handsome demon slept again.

No.

Correction.

She had fallen asleep.

And he had become her mattress.

Not bad.

Good demon.

The thought appeared too naturally.

Runa frowned.

No, absolutely not.

Good demon was a dangerous classification.

That was how tragedies began.

First, a demon fed you.

Then he held you.

Then one day, you woke up as architecture.

She had historical evidence.

Runa tried to move and immediately noticed something wrong.

Lux did not look huge anymore.

Earlier, his face had been massive. His hand large enough to cover half her body. The room enormous. The bed was abyssal. The table was a mountain.

Now?

He looked normal.

Tall, yes.

Broad, yes.

Annoyingly well-made, yes.

But human-sized.

Not giant.

Runa’s eyes lowered.

Her breathing stopped.

Hands.

Not paws.

Long fingers.

Pale skin.

Faint golden sigils still fading along her wrists.

Her gaze snapped downward.

Bare shoulders.

Bare legs.

A tail.

Cat ears twitched on top of her head.

Runa’s mind went silent.

Then screamed.

She was human again.

Mostly.

A human woman with cat ears and a tail.

And naked.

Why was she naked?

Why did transformation magic always disrespect clothing? Was the universe allergic to dignity?

The milk.

It had to be the milk. The mana in it must have replenished enough of her soul structure to trigger temporary humanoid manifestation. A fragile body shaped from her dominant soul and the cat vessel’s magical adaptation.

Yes.

That made sense.

Then she noticed another problem.

There was a scent in the air.

Sweet.

Dark.

Warm.

Almost like spiced honey poured over velvet and danger. It clung around Lux’s skin, subtle but impossible to ignore now that she had a proper nose again. No, not proper. Enhanced. Part human, part feline, part sorcerer senses pushed raw by unstable mana.

Pheromones.

Runa stiffened.

It made Lux seem warmer.

His breathing moved beneath her cheek. Slow. Steady. His body under hers was firm, powerful, and hot enough to make the sheet feel suddenly inadequate. Runa shifted slightly, intending to pull away.

Then froze.

Something pressed against her thigh.

Hard.

Runa stared downward.

Then lifted her head very slowly.

Her mouth opened. "Weird."

The word came out.

An actual word.

Not a meow.

Lux’s eyes opened. Not sleepy anymore.

Because apparently the demon could fall asleep from boring stock prices but wake up instantly when a naked ancient sorcerer cat spoke on his chest.

His gaze locked on hers.
