Yeah. Say you’re going to kill a woman’s own brother right in front of her face—who the hell could swallow that?

And Ke Yi and Kevin Ward had grown up in a broken home. Just the two of them, leaning on each other all the way. No matter what kind of bastard he was, he was still her blood brother.

And what was Liu Feifan to her?

At most, in the last life, he’d used Ke Yi to get back at Kevin Ward. They’d had skin-to-skin contact, sure. But that was the last life.

Even in this life—even now, when he was Ke Yi’s man—if he wanted to kill her real little brother for no clear reason, no woman on earth would nod and say yes.

Liu Feifan slowly forced himself to cool down.

Kevin Ward had to die. That much would never change.

But how to kill him without making Ke Yi hate him to the bone—that was the real knot.

And it wasn’t just Ke Yi.

All the women in the Ice Regiment were watching.

They didn’t know what Kevin Ward had done to Sarah Franklin in the last life. They didn’t know what kind of filth he really was. If Liu Feifan just rushed out and butchered him like this, what would the women think?

If one day they ran into his own male relatives, would their captain kill them too without a second thought?

But letting Kevin Ward join the Ice Regiment?

That was harder for Liu Feifan than killing him.

Hell, Liu Feifan would rather his own damn mother die locked together with that beast than let that happen.

“Say it!” Ke Yi’s eyes were red and wet, tears spilling nonstop. She shouted at Liu Feifan like a crazed lioness. “Liu Feifan, tell me right now—are you still going to kill my brother?!”

Just then Sophia Reid had heard the news. She had only just thrown on a coat and stepped up into the RV. The moment she heard that scream, she froze, stunned, her gaze swinging back and forth between Ke Yi and Liu Feifan.

“Fine. I...” Liu Feifan crushed down the fury in his chest and spoke as steadily as he could. “You let me go with you to see him.”

“I don’t want you there!” Ke Yi shoved him hard in the chest, then turned and shouted at Chloe Clark, “Chloe! Gather two hundred people and move with me now! Sophia Reid! No matter what—this is the first time I’ve ever asked you for anything. I’m begging you, keep Liu Feifan here for me! Don’t let him leave this RV by even half a step!”

Sophia Reid stared with wide eyes, still dazed, then nodded.

Liana Jabbar climbed into the vehicle and asked in a rush, “What happened? Ke Yi, you... what are you two doing? So many of the team are watching, you...”

“Liana, don’t talk. This has nothing to do with you.” Ke Yi’s voice was sharp as a blade. “If you still treat me like a sister, then stay here and help me keep watch on Liu Feifan. Don’t let him run.”

Liana Jabbar nodded blankly, too rattled to say another word.

“Let me go. I give you my word I won’t kill him. But you have to let me go.” Liu Feifan drew several long breaths, staring straight at Ke Yi. “Ke Yi, if you don’t let me go today, then I swear to you too—you may be able to keep me locked down for a while, but you won’t keep me locked down forever. The moment I get a chance, I will kill that animal with my own hands.”

“Then I’ll kill you right now!”

Ke Yi’s emotions snapped. She yanked out her sidearm and pointed it straight at him.

Liu Feifan didn’t move. He didn’t activate the Metal Crystal either. He only stood there, eyes fixed on her.

“Ke Yi, you know better than anyone what kind of thing your brother is. Do you really want me to say it out loud?”

“Ke Yi, what are you doing?!” Liana Jabbar, Charlotte Renard, and Sophia Reid all rushed over at once and threw themselves in front of Liu Feifan. Liana Jabbar grabbed Ke Yi’s arm in a panic and tried to soothe her in a low voice.

“If there’s something to say, then say it properly. What are you doing pulling a gun?”

“Watch your mouth!” Emily Ward shouted, voice shaking hard. “He wants to kill my own brother! How the hell am I supposed to talk nice?”

Sophia Reid stood in front of Magnus Specter, still not fully understanding what was going on. She whipped around, glared at him, and snapped, “What are you doing? Why are you trying to kill her brother? Have you lost your mind?”

“If I don’t kill him, I...” Magnus stopped there.

He stood frozen for a long moment, jaw tight, not a word coming out. Then he turned to Chloe Clark.

“Chloe. Come inside with me.”

“What are you two trying to say now?” Emily cried out again.

Magnus had already grabbed Chloe by the arm. His steps paused. He drew a deep breath, then gave up on taking her inside. Instead, he leaned close to her ear and muttered a couple of sentences.

After hearing it, Chloe turned and stared at him, stunned.

Magnus let out another long breath and gave a firm nod.

Chloe got out of the vehicle, looking back every other step, doubt all over her face.

Magnus said flatly, “We’re all going. Emily Ward, I can promise you this—without your permission, I will not kill him. Is that enough?”

“I don’t believe you!” Emily nearly screamed. “Magnus Specter, I already said it. I won’t allow you to go!”

“Emily Ward! This isn’t about whether you allow it or not!” Magnus’s temper finally started to break loose. His voice hit like a slap. “I’ll say this one last time. If you let me go today, I can still give you my word. But if you stop me today, then I swear to you—I’ll cut your brother’s head off with my own hands and throw it to the beasts!”

Hearing those words come straight from Magnus’s mouth, Emily went blank.

She stood there dumbfounded for dozens of seconds, not moving.

All the force she had just now collapsed in an instant.

She was not Sophia Reid.

The fact that she had held out this long, the fact that she had even dared point a gun at Magnus Specter—that was already her limit.

She would not kill Magnus.

And when she had aimed the gun at him just now, only Emily herself knew the truth.

The safety had never even been off.

If Magnus really killed her brother with his own hands, Emily didn’t know what she would do in the end. She truly didn’t know whether her muzzle would turn toward Magnus—

or toward herself.

“Xiaofan...” Emily’s voice came out hoarse.

She took a few small steps forward, reached out, and pushed Sophia aside from where she stood in front of Magnus. Her big eyes were already blurred by tears.

She looked straight at him for a long while.

Then, slowly, she stepped in and wrapped her arms around him, resting her head against his shoulder. She cried softly as she whispered in his ear, “Xiaofan, just take it as Sister Emily begging you... please don’t kill my brother. I know he’s no good, but...”

Her throat tightened. She couldn’t go on for a second.

“But he’s still my real brother. Just... take it as Sister Emily begging you, all right?”

For her brother’s sake, Emily finally put down the dignity she had fought so hard to hold together all this time.

Magnus stood there in silence.

His fists clenched so hard the knuckles whitened, then slowly loosened.

He thought of his last life.

He thought of Emily throwing herself in to save him, only to be ripped open by a rat demon beast—her belly torn through, guts spilling all over the ground.

He thought of how childish and crazed he had been in that last life, taking revenge on Emily, tangling himself with her until there was skin between them.

And now she was here again...

Throwing away almost all her pride to beg him.

At a time like this, even a man with a heart of iron would have trouble staying unmoved.

But letting Kevin Ward, that animal, into the Ice Regiment—

same as before.

That was harder than killing Magnus himself.

Unless Magnus died, unless his last breath was gone, then as long as he still had one breath left in him, he would never watch that beast swagger around inside the Ice Regiment he had built with his own hands.

The air stayed locked for more than ten seconds.

Most of the killing force around Magnus finally ebbed away.

“Fine, Sister Emily,” he said in a low voice. “I promise you. As long as you don’t want me to kill him, I absolutely won’t kill him. So...” He let out a long breath. “Is that enough?”

He felt the soft body against his chest tremble.

He couldn’t tell whether she had started crying again or what. Almost by instinct, he raised a hand and gently patted her back.

Emily lay against his shoulder and sobbed for a while.

At last she forced herself to stop crying, then murmured near his ear, “Then I’m begging you... don’t let me see that scene...”

Magnus froze.

She agreed?

But right after that, Emily went on in a low, broken voice, “Before you kill Xiaowei... Sister Emily begs you... let me die before he does...”
