Chapter 1862 - 1862: Lost an eye (2)
The next day the news of Yu Dong falling in a valley and getting lost spread throughout the villages around the Big River Village. When the villagers heard about Yu Dong’s fall, only a few sympathised, but most of them thought that she deserved it.
When Shen Li and the rest heard about these dirty words, they could not help but get angry. Even though they knew that it was a lie, the fact that their wife went to war and these people were cursing her by saying that she deserved to die a brutal death was too unlucky.
But before they could explode, someone else exploded before them.
“Look at your own face before saying this bullshit,” roared Xiao Hua, who rushed at the villagers who were mocking Yu Dong. With red-rimmed eyes and pouchy cheeks, he glared at them and said to them, “If there is karma, then the first one who will die is you and your family. Did you forget already that you and your family starved your first mer husband because he gave birth to six mers?”
“You not only killed him, you even killed those six innocent mer children. And that too by starving them!”
“If you ask me, you all are suffering the retribution for starving your husbands and mer sons. Who are you looking down on? Now it’s your turn to starve; suddenly you want everyone to take pity on you and help you? To feed you? Then why did you not take pity on your mer husbands and mer sons? They were your family, were they not?”
Shen Li and the others had no idea about the good deeds that these families had done but Xiao Hua had a very good idea. He didn’t hesitate to publicise them all the second he heard them talk bad about Yu Dong.
When the women who mocked Yu Dong heard Xiao Hua’s words, they choked. They looked at the mer who had scolded them bloody and said to him angrily, “Just you wait.”
Anyway, Yu Dong was not here, they would see how long this mer would stay proud.
They turned around and left after leaving the threat.
Shen Li, who also heard their threats, turned to look at Xiao Hua and said to him, “You shouldn’t have done that; those women do not look like they are someone who can be talked sense into.”
Xiao Hua snorted and said, “I don’t fear them; Dong Dong left me a bunch of shadow guards. Let them make a move. Do they think that just because she is not here, they can do anything? As long as they make a move on me, the shadow guards will chop their hands.” He raised his voice while speaking these words.
He wanted those women to hear that he was not as easy to bully as they thought!
Sure enough, when the women heard that Xiao Hua had a bunch of shadow guards, they immediately turned around and walked away.
They didn’t want to be caught by those shadow guards!
Xiao Hua watched them run and snorted angrily.
How dare they act smug in front of him and insult his soon to be wife?
Shen Li looked at the mer in front of him. His eyes flickered and he said to Xiao Hua, “Hua Hua, if—”
“Don’t,” Xiao Hua didn’t turn around as he knew what Shen Li was going to say. “I know what I am doing and I will wait for her to return. If she then, I will live my life as her widower.”
Once he finished speaking, he turned around on his feet and walked away.
A gust of wind passed by them and Shen Li watched the mer walking with a determined pace. He sighed and looked at the deserted path in front of him.
“Dong Dong, was this really ncessary?”

Time passed by swiftly and soon ten months passed by.
“Your highness, do you think leaving this matter to her is alright?” One of the generals looked at Yu Dong, who was sitting on the corner of the table with a calm expression.
The woman didn’t ask this question because she doubted Yu Dong’s ability but because the woman had lost an eye in the last war.
Xien Zhenya glanced at Yu Dong, who was sitting silently with a strip of bandage tied around her injured eye and said to the general who raised her concern, “I think that Madam Yu will finish this task without any hitch.”
She then questioned Yu Dong, “Won’t you, Madam Yu?”
Yu Dong turned to look at the woman with a calm expression on her face. Even though she had lost an eye, her charm had not been reduced; if anything, she had become even sharper and more refined.
Maybe this was the reason why many of the mers were willing to follow Yu Dong, thought Xien Zhenya.
“I will,” Yu Dong stated calmly. She had done this many times and she was no longer a rookie and wouldn’t make the same mistake that led her to lose her eyes.
“Then I will leave this matter to you,” said Xien Zhenya. “You can go ahead and prepare for tonight.”
Yu Dong nodded without saying anything as she got up from the chair and walked out of the tent.
Once she left, one of the generals shook her head and remarked, “This is too much. Xien Xieren has really crossed all boundaries; look at this: because of her, even commoners have to sacrifice so much.”
“When has that woman even cared about commoners?” Xien Zhenya questioned with a sneer. “If she had cared, then this war wouldn’t have been dragged on so long and many lives could have been saved.”
Xien Zhenya looked down on her elder sister more than she looked down on her mother. At least her mother had the sense to admit that she was an incompetent ruler when she was on her dying bed but Xien Xieren? She would not admit she was in the wrong even if she was a foot away from being dragged into the coffin.
