Chapter 1668 - 1668: Search
Lord Ren frowned upon hearing the words of the two officers. He then asked, “But did either of you find the two Xiao sisters?”
“They are not at home,” replied the other officer with a click of her tongue. “We somehow managed to barge inside their house but the two women seemed to have run away already.”
It was not surprising, with the ruckus that Old Master Xiao had caused the two sisters must have already found out that something had gone awry and ran away from the back door.
In a way, those women also had some guts, after all, who would dare to run away from the yamen officers? People were usually too scared to move whenever they appeared on their doorstep but these two women!
They were actually daring enough to run away. And they did it so right under their noses!
The two officers were really furious but what could they do? The two women were gone and even after looking for them, they didn’t find either of the two Xiao Sisters.
And it was better to not even start on Master Xiao. That mer was simply beyond reasoning. When they went to question him, he continued crying and yelling while repeating the same thing over and over again.
He continued screaming and refused to tell them anything. Other than the fact that his two sisters were honest and kind, they couldn’t get anything out of him.
Yu Dong sighed and turned to look at Madam Kong whose expression was rather sullen. She didn’t seem happy with the actions of Master Xiao but she was controlling her temper as they were sitting inside the Yamen.
“Lord Ren, will we be able to find our children?” Madam Kong asked nervously. Agitation was written on her face on every inch, as this was the thing that she cared the most about.
Hearing her question, Lord Ren frowned. He rubbed his head before saying, “We can try our best to look for your children, Madam Kong. But without your sisters telling us who is behind this kidnapping, our hands are also tied.”
After all, their city was not small either. If someone were to go missing, it would be rather difficult to find them.
And who knew whether those people were even in the city at the moment or somewhere else? Where were they supposed to look for them? Lord Ren didn’t believe that these people were hiding in the city.
But where? Where were they supposed to start looking?
Especially when they had neither head nor tail about the person who picked the children.
Madam Kong gripped her hands tightly on her lap when she heard the words of Lord Ren. Those beasts! They actually ran away to save their own skin instead of telling them where they took her daughters away.
She would never forgive them! How dare they, after what she had done for them.
“But we will still try,” said Lord Ren when he noticed the expression on the face of Madam Kong. “I will send a few yamen officers and have them investigate around the shop. Someone must have seen your children being taken away as long as we can find the person who took them away or anything related to them —we still have a chance of finding them.”
“Don’t lose hope, Madam Kong.”
Madam Kong nodded her head stiffly. What else could she do but hope?
Yu Dong on the other hand raised her head and questioned, “Lord Ren, if we use a portrait of my brother and the other children, will that be able to help you?”
“It should help a little,” Lord Ren thought about it and answered. However, his answer remained vague, after all, the portraits hardly helped.
He was thinking about the portraits that were prevalent throughout the nation. The ones which did not show much of the features of the person.
“Then please give me a moment,” Yu Dong said to Lord Ren before standing up from her chair and walking over to one side. She asked one of the officers to bring her a paper and brush before sitting down.
“Dong Dong, what are you doing?” Yu Le asked as he looked at his niece whose hands were moving on the paper.
Shouldn’t she ask the Yamen artists to draw these portraits for her?
“Nothing, I am just drawing the portraits of the four children,” Yu Dong answered. Her face was focused as her hand swished across the scroll in front of her. Everyone in the yamen glanced at her, they did not understand why this woman was drawing the portrait on her own.
Shouldn’t this be done by the professionals?
However, no one stopped her as she seemed like she knew what she was doing. Not to mention, Yu Dong’s aura made it impossible for anyone to approach her especially when she looked like she was raging.
An hour slowly passed by, and Yu Dong set the brush in her hand down on the table before sitting up straight. She waited for the ink to dry down before picking up the four scrolls from the table and walking over to the table where Lord Ren was sitting.
She placed the scrolls on the table’s surface and said to Lord Ren, “Will these do?”
Lord Ren didn’t say anything. Instead, he picked up the scrolls and unravelled them, as long as these could be used then he might as well use them.
Since Yu Dong had worked hard on it and she seemed worried about the safety of his brothers, it felt a bit cruel to refuse to use the portraits drawn by Yu Dong.
However, the second he opened the scrolls his eyes widened and he gasped. “This—how did you draw these?” The more he looked at the scrolls the more his eyes widened. A part of him couldn’t even believe what he was seeing.
Was this really possible?
“What’s the matter, Lord Ren?”
