Back then the carelessness and the nonchalant way her mother had talked about her safety, caused Yu Tong who had returned home to turn around and leave once again.
She was angry and frustrated because of the casual words of her mother, though Yu Tong knew that she shouldn’t be bothered by the words of her mother. Ever since she was young her mother and Daddy had carelessly treated her whenever Yu Cheng was concerned but that night, Yu Tong felt something snap inside her.
Thus, instead of going back home, Yu Tong ran away from her home and arrived at the town. As she was brimming with anger, she had rushed over to the tavern where the Boss Lady used to keep mers and sell them for a night.
Though Yu Tong did not know much about selling and buying the body, she had heard from Yu Dong that staying a night at a tavern helped her release the stress. So, she had arrived at the tavern where Yu Dong went every night.
It was her first time stepping into a place that was filled with so much raucous laughter and music. Her eyes were filled with nothing but red as the entire building was covered with red. Red curtains, red candles and even the mers were dressed in vibrant red clothing as they pleased the customers in the tavern.
‘WOW,’ Yu Tong exclaimed as she looked at the building that was filled with nothing but red colour. She looked left and then she looked right, the more she looked around the more confused she became as Yu Tong looked at the mers who were beckoning her to come to them.
‘Young miss come here,’
‘Young miss, do you need company for the night?’

‘Eh Young miss, do you get lost? Want this old brother to give you a nice ride haha?’
Just as Yu Tong was afraid that she was going to be pulled along by the mers who were teasing her, a lofty and gently voice came from behind ——
‘What’s going on?’
Yu Tong turned around and looked at the mer behind her, he was the most gentle-looking mer she had seen in the tavern. Even though he was dressed in the same vibrant red robe, he looked more beautiful than everyone else. The only mer who was more beautiful than the mer behind her was the one who sat on the top stage and was singing while playing the Guqin.
‘Ah, brother Hanjing? This young lady seems to be here for the first time, so we thought about entertaining her and nothing else,’ one of the mers pulling Yu Tong replied while he dropped Yu Tong’s hand that he was holding under Lin Hanjing’s gaze.
‘Can you not see that she is too young?’ Lin Hanjing said to the mers who stepped away from Yu Tong and then one of them questioned, ‘Eh miss, you are not fifteen?’
Yu Tong’s face flushed red in shame as she said to them, ‘I am sixteen what do you mean that I am not of age? I can get married now!’
‘Oh? I am sorry. You look way too young because you are so skinny…’ Lin Hanjing blurted out causing Yu Tong’s eyes to turn red as she started to cry, ‘Wuuuu….you all are such bullies.’
Her sudden crying caused the mers to turn startle. They immediately grew flustered as they had never dealt with a crying and fussy woman before. They have dealt with perverts but what were they supposed to do when a woman who did nothing started to cry?
‘Should I hit the back of her neck?’ One of the mer questioned.
‘Idiot, you are supposed to do that when a woman is bothering you,’ said another mer.
‘But she is bothering me with her crying.’
‘Alright miss,’ Lin Hanjing sighed as he took out a handkerchief and wiped her nose. ‘Let’s sit down and talk alright? I have some nice tea leaves, Would you like to drink with me?’
Yu Tong nodded as she wanted to tell someone about all the frustration that she had pent up in her heart, so when Lin Hanjing brewed the tea for her, Yu Tong told him everything that happened to her at her house.
After speaking she thought that she might have overreacted and apologized to Lin Hanjing who calmly smiled at her and told her——
‘You are not in the wrong. It’s fine to feel upset, you are human after all. As a person you have expectations, so what is the problem with you getting angry at your parents when those expectations are not met?’
‘More importantly, I don’t think you were in the wrong. You stood up for what was wrong, I think you were quite braver than spoiled.’
No one knew how much Yu Tong wanted to hear those words. However those words were not spoken by her mother or her father, it was spoken by a stranger who did not share any relationship with her.
Back to the present,
Lin Hanjing was covering his mouth in shock. He did remember taking care of a young girl a few years ago but he did not know that it was Yu Tong nor did he know that his words left such an impact on her that she started loving him from that very night.
If the timeline was right then Yu Tong—— she had been in love with him for five years!
And not once did she say anything to him.
“I didn’t want to burden Brother Hanjing,” Yu Tong continued speaking. “That’s why I hid my feelings, I thought that I would redeem him and tell him the truth…but each time I saved money you would take it away! If you hadn’t taken the money then Brother Hanjing would be safe without losing anything!”
“In the end, it was my fault! My fault that I was so useless that I couldn’t save him, I stayed quiet and listened to like you a fool. Hoping that things would hic get better but they never did.”
Yu Tong raised her head and looked at her mother, “How long are you going to push me to an edge like this? If this is how it’s going to be then I might as well——” she did not finish speaking as Yu Tong leaned back and fell down the cliff.
