Growing Fond of You, Mr Nian

Chapter 904 - Not From the Same World

Chapter 904: Not From the Same World

“I can’t leave now.” Nian Xi ended the call.

How could she leave Jiang Yuning there and go home alone?

She was supposed to protect him.

She walked out of the room. Lawyer Mao, Uncle Han, and the others were still talking about the case in the living room. Seeing her, Uncle Han said, “Mr. Jiang’s parents are on their way here. They’ll probably arrive this afternoon. Thank you for taking care of us, the last couple of days. I have booked tickets for you, so you can leave this afternoon.”

Nian Xi was going to say something, but Zhan Hong interrupted her and said, “Mr. Han, we are so sorry that we couldn’t help.”

“Captain, did you agree to leave too?” Nian Xi couldn’t believe that.

“The Director called me,” said Zhan Hong with a complicated feeling. “He told us to go back. We are not helpful here, and there are other cases to be solved.”

“But…” Nian Xi didn’t want to go.

“This case is out of our reach. Our job is to keep him safe in Paris, and we did that,” Zhan Hong knew what she was thinking. He interrupted her again and said, “Trust me, Mr. Jiang will come home.”

“I know he will; he is wronged. But, how long?” Nian Xi looked at Uncle Han, wishing to hear a positive answer from him.

“We’ll try to get him out in a couple of months.” Uncle Han sighed helplessly. “Those people are buying time, and these French people are trying to make things worse. You have your own work to do. It’s unnecessary for you to waste your time here. Don’t worry. Mr. Jiang works for the government, and the government won’t give up on him.”

Nian Xi fell silent.

Even Uncle Han told her to go. What could she possibly say?

If it happened in Xia City, she would be able to help, as her parents were both powerful. But away from home, she couldn’t do anything to help him.

Thinking about Jiang Yuning’s pitiful eyes, she felt very uncomfortable. She wondered if he would get bullied in the detention house.

He was so innocent and vulnerable. He had some high-tech weapons, but the police officers would certainly take those away.

At 2:00 p.m., Nian Xi packed her luggage, but didn’t come out of her room.

Uncle Han knocked on her door and said, “Miss Nian, it’s time to leave. Mr. Zhan and the other officers are waiting for you downstairs. Mr. Jiang and I will visit you to thank you for your care when we get back to Xia City.”

“Don’t say that. We didn’t do much.” Uncle Han’s words made Nian Xi feel bad.

If she left, would Jiang Yuning be disappointed when he came out of the detention house?

Seeing her struggle, Uncle Han smiled and said, “You have already turned Mr. Jiang down. Do not change your mind. Don’t give him hope, and then tell him again that you still love your ex-boyfriend. That’ll be hurtful, won’t it?”

“I’m sorry…” Nian Xi lowered her head. Her cheeks burned.

“It’s okay. I understand. Mr. Jiang is a scientist, and his work scares a lot of people. If other people knew about his work, they’d see him as a pain in the ass. Even the people who are close to him might be affected.” Uncle Han picked up her suitcase and said, “I’ll walk you downstairs.”

Uncle Han walked Nian Xi and her colleagues to their ride. Not long after the car started driving, Nian Xi saw another car parked before Uncle Han.

Uncle Han politely greeted a man and a woman, who might’ve been Jiang Yuning’s parents.

Fang Qi saw it too. Seeing that Nian Xi was upset, he said to her, “We’ve gained some new experiences the past few days. I admire Mr. Jiang, but after all, we aren’t from the same world.”
