Chapter 2059: The Potential Of Humans.
There is also a longer review process with the god of craft because of his higher popularity. All of these made Legion go for the underdog, who is the god of steam.
The god of steam is a relatively new god. He is competing with the god of craft, so the services he offers are more competitive. Legion intends to take advantage of this.
Not many humans will make the decision of which god to pray to for a patent from his point of view. Most humans will make the decision based on faith, not benefits. It is because they fear and are in awe of the gods.
He also fears the gods. They are very powerful and dangerous, so it is the smart thing to be afraid of them.
But as for being in awe of them, that is something he is incapable of. He doesn’t have a single bone capable of awe in his body.
He can’t have faith in the gods either. He is just not that gullible.
If there is someone he is in awe of, it will be himself who is in the process of becoming an Absolute, the lord of madness who built this world and created the conditions for an Absolute to appear, or the Absolute that killed the lord of madness but still had enough power leftover to maintain all of the lord of madness’s actions.
Anyone else cannot elicit awe in him. Not this world, which is just the size of a plane in the realm of high heaven and certainly not their gods who are at most as strong as Supreme Origin gods.
He shook his head in amusement as he walked through the town. Then he thought to himself, “Life will always survive.”
He was amused to see pale, white humans walking about in the dark of the day going about their lives as if these conditions are normal. They remind him of white goblins, which made him chuckle.
White goblins are the diminutive and weak ancestors of the supreme beasts. If humans were not handsome and tall, they would look like the ugly and short white goblins which amused him.
But that aside, these humans and white goblins have a lot of things in common. The white goblins are stronger than humans, but humans also possess the ability to accommodate the abilities of others.
This ability is a sort of potential. If there were mana, humans would be able to evolve into powerful creatures of various kinds. But they don’t, so they have to resort to assimilating divine flesh or risking being assimilated by divine flesh for power.
Attempting to assimilate divine flesh and risking being assimilated by divine flesh are the same thing. Only the end result is different.
In one, humans win, and in the other, the divine flesh wins. But the process is the same.
This process is acquiring something that they lack. For humans, the process of assimilating divine flesh is like acquiring a divine ability.
Divine abilities are something that powerful races are supposed to be born with. Humans are not powerful. But they have the potential to be, and the divine flesh has been cut into tiny portions for their existence to assimilate.
In the case where humans fail to become godclads and are instead assimilated by the divine flesh, the divine flesh will be the one gaining something it lacks from them. It will be gaining a body.
He can still remember certain powerful beings in the void universe who are only one head. From what he learned from the god of souls, he knows that those powerful entities used to have bodies.
He has a suspicion that it is the origin of divine flesh. But he is more inclined to believe that the source of the divine flesh is not alive at all and has been cut to pieces completely.
Just thinking about it makes him shiver in fear. Then he grumbled about how weak his body and mind are for the umpteenth time.
After grumbling about his body, he compared his current power to that of the gods of this world.
It made him say, “Maybe I was hard on them before. If they can become gods in this world despite the adverse conditions and the risk of the godclad system of power, then they are not so bad.”
He chuckled and said, “Maybe my human body is making me sentimental. I can’t wait to ditch it.”
He was talking to himself and chuckling at jokes no one could see. He didn’t know that he was doing all of these things out loud and that people were giving him weird stares and avoiding him because of his behavior.
He is doing these things because the lack of control of his body is abysmal. If he knew that he was making a scene, he would grumble again.
He didn’t know where exactly the temple of the god of steam was, but from his memories, he knew that it was always close to the rail station or factory.
If he were looking for the temple of the god of crafts, he would go to the worker’s district. Either way, the temples of the two gods are never close to each other.
The two gods have similar origins and belong to the same pathway in the godclad system, but they ended up on opposite sides.
He doesn’t know the full story of why this is the case, but he knows that the two gods don’t like each other. It made him think of what he is about to do and the effects it will have on the machine pathway.
He said to himself, “I won’t join the fight at all. As long as I gain benefits from the conflicts of the three of them, I shouldn’t care about anything else.”
When he reached the rail station, he looked around and asked for the temple of the god of steam. He found the temple a short distance away.
The temple of the god of steam looked like a factory. It was large and bright because of all the lamps. There were people, both men and women, in it working on various machines.
