Chapter 2051 Night Guards.
Chapter 2051 Night Guards.
He doesn’t know how his present self managed to fulfill the conditions of creating an aspect with the potential to become an Absolute because he doesn’t have memories of his past. For some weird reason, he can’t remember anything about himself.
He doesn’t know where he is or what he is doing here. He only knows his name which is Levi.
He has a lot of memories about the things that happened from here on out. So he knows that the human he is supposed to be should die in a few days. It was only later that his soul was reincarnated into a new body without memories of his past.
So he doesn’t know why he is leaning against the wall of the house in a dark and silent town.
He is sitting outside the house on the floor with his back to the wall, so he has a good view of the town. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to see.
There was a street just beyond the edge of this compound. But there was no one coming and going. Everywhere was silent.
There was light from small stone lamps in the various houses on the street, but it didn’t appear that there was anyone in the houses. The world was dark, gloomy, and silent.
He was unable to sit or stand because of the burden of his memories on his mind. So he could only continue to sit despite the hunger gnawing at his stomach.
He said to himself, “At this rate, I might actually die. Will I remember when I reincarnate again, or will this be the end of my process of becoming an Absolute?”
He doesn’t want to die, but there was nothing he could do about his situation. He could only sit and die.
He sat there for what counted as two days in this world. There was no sun or moon in this world, so there is no definite period of night and day.
The best he could use to sense time was the slight glowing of the ground. The ground glowed and waned in two cycles, so he knew that two days had passed.
The whole village was silent throughout those two days. There was no sound and no activity from the living.
The lights coming from all the houses had disappeared because the lamps had run out of power. So the whole village became darker than when he appeared.
It was not only dark, but it was also eerie. Every living thing in the village, including the humans, cats, rats, and even ants, was dead. Decomposition had set in after two days, so the village was smelling like a graveyard.
Fortunately, someone came after that two days. It was a group of people.
These people were wearing black armor and carried a staff with a lamp hanging from it. They moved together like soldiers in a formation as they roamed around the village examining it.
They carried lamps of different colors. Most of the lamps were green. Some were red. A few of them were yellow, and only one was white.
They used the light of the lamp to make their way around the village. Eventually they made it to where Legion, or Levi, was.
One of them, carrying a yellow lamp, said, “It seems we were too late.”
Another one carrying a yellow lamp looked around with fear on his face and said, “Maybe it is a good thing that we were late.”
The only one carrying the white lamp turned back to them and glared at them before saying, “We are not here to chat. Do your job and keep quiet.”
The two sergeants shut their mouths up. Actually, they were not the cowardly ones. The cowardly ones were the ones who were too afraid to speak and wanted to run away from this disaster zone.
These two sergeants, who could still talk, had to be very brave to open their mouths even though they knew that their voices might attract danger to them.
The village had only one street that ran throughout it. So these people didn’t have to split up to search. All they needed to do was walk from the beginning of the village to the end.
But even this simple process was difficult because the whole village was full of corpses. From what they have seen, everything in the village died all at once without warning.
There was no fear on the corpses’s faces. If anything, there was confusion and surprise. They had all died without knowing why.
The only person carrying a white lamp bent down to examine one of the corpses on the street and said, “There are no external injuries, and the corpses are still intact. So this wasn’t done by a monster. It had to be an anomaly or a god clad.”
One of the two sergeants said, “There are no mutations, which means this wasn’t done by an anomaly. It had to be done by a god clad.”
The other sergeants shook his head and said, “We can’t be sure of anything. If there is one thing I have learned throughout my years of experience, it is that nothing is certain until it is certain.”
They were whispering to themselves. They wanted to avoid attracting unwanted attention with their voice, but it didn’t matter because the whole village was as silent as a ghost town.
Their voice and the light of their lamps was like a beacon in the dark. If there was still anything roaming around the village, it would have seen them immediately and come over even if they were silent.
Levi also saw them right from the moment they entered the village. He was still weak, tired, hungry, and mentally handicapped, so he couldn’t call out to them for help.
He knew their identities when he saw the lamps of various colors. They were the lamp bearers, the night guards, and the guardians of the night. Since it is always night in this world, their job is a 24/7 job.
