Chapter 2058 The Remnant Will

The illusion of choice.

The illusion of authority.

The illusion of having everything under control.

That was the type of illusion the Vampire King, Jacob de Vile, was under.

The one to cast that illusion was none other than the elderly gypsy.

But the most dangerous thing about all of this was that the illusion was not a product of magic. No. It was born from words, trust, and assurances.

This was what Sandra meant when she said to Adam, "Jacob isn't who you should be wary of."

Based on everything Sandra knew, she had deemed the elderly gypsy the greatest threat!

And even after spending centuries in this secret plane, she barely knew anything about her. The gypsy was the greatest enigma in this accursed place.

Most of what Sandra knew about the gypsy was that Jacob owed a great favour to her.

And she had an idea about why that was.

Leaving the two alone in the throne room, Sandra stepped out and moved through the dark halls and corridors of the castle.

Castle de Vile was quiet. Far too quiet.

There were no servants walking through the halls. No voices. No sound of footsteps other than her own. Only the occasional flickering of a torch broke the silence.

The shadows seemed to have a life of their own. They clung to the corners of the halls and stretched across the stone floors. Sometimes, Sandra could have sworn they moved when there was nothing there to cast them.

The stone gargoyles carved into the walls watched her as she passed. Their cold, stony eyes followed her every movement. Sandra paid them no attention. She had walked these halls countless times.

Yet even she could feel the fear that seemed to perpetually hang in the air. Everything about Castle de Vile carried the same feeling—fear and danger and evil and darkness.

It was present in every corridor and every room, as if the castle itself had been built around them.

Sandra continued walking until she finally reached the upper levels of the castle. Her chambers were there. She opened the door and stepped inside.

Although there were privacy formations carved into her chamber, she was not foolish enough to actually believe she was not being spied upon.

The Vampire King spied on everything and everyone in the secret plane through his ravens. And inside the castle, the very stones that made up the walls and floor and ceiling served as his eyes and ears.

Paranoid bastard, Sandra cursed inwardly as she lay down on her bed.

She lay on her bed for half an hour, making sure not to draw any suspicion. She was always on guard. She then performed her usual chores, just as she did every night. She knew she was being watched, and anything unusual could raise questions.

Since a war was on the horizon, she sharpened her weapons and prepared her material components. She checked everything carefully before putting them away.

After all that was over, she opened the window and jumped out.

She gracefully climbed onto the sloped roof overhead. Her chambers were located in one of the castle's many towering spires, and from the roof, she had a breathtaking view of the secret plane.

Sandra reached into the fold of her dress and retrieved an old portrait. She did this every night. It was part of her routine. So there was nothing suspicious about it.

She gently stroked the portrait. It displayed a young man and a young woman.

But her mind had already drifted elsewhere.

After all these years…

She had spent countless years searching the secret plane for a way out. She had searched its ruins, studied its history, followed every fragment of information she could find. And eventually, she had found the answer.

There was a way to leave this place, but it came with a price. A risky price.

Jacob has to die, she thought to herself as she lowered her head to hide the dangerous gleam in her blood-red eyes.

That was the one thing that stood between her and freedom.

Jacob de Vile had devoured the spirit of the secret plane. He had taken its power into himself and made himself invincible, and this place his domain. As long as he lived, leaving the secret plane was almost impossible.

But Sandra had discovered something else. Jacob was not completely invincible. There were two weapons that could kill him.

The Morning Star and the Winter Blade, she mused.

Her hands slowly tightened around the old portrait.

The origins of those weapons were far older than most people realized.

The High Priest of the Sun Temple and the High Priestess of the Moon Temple forged them long ago. But they did not create them with their own power.

No…

They had been helped by someone else. Something else.

The remnant will of the secret plane!

Long ago, Jacob had devoured the spirit of this place. However, it had been a time-consuming process. The spirit of the secret plane was immense. Even Jacob, with all his power, could not consume it in an instant.

And so, while he slowly devoured it, something strange happened.

The spirit began to fade, its power weakened, and its consciousness became fragmented. However, its will had not completely disappeared.

Before the spirit was consumed, the fading will reached out.

It found the High Priest and the High Priestess!

Why them? Sandra had wondered about that many times. She still did not know the answer.

But she knew what happened afterward.

The remnant will helped them forge the two weapons.

The Morning Star, a weapon carrying the power of the sun. And the Winter Blade, a weapon carrying the power of the moon.

But there was more.

The remnant will also helped create the talismans!

That was why the talismans could protect the countless residents in this place from the monsters that came out at night.

These talismans were not ordinary magical artifacts. They contained the power of this place. The power of the spirit that Jacob had devoured in the past.

And the two weapons were the same.

The Lamiyan Talismans, the Morning Star, and the Winter Blade, they not only carried the remnant magic of the spirit of the secret plane, but also its wrath.

That was why the talismans prevent the monsters from entering houses!

And that was why the two weapons are capable of mortally wounding the Vampire King!

That is all for today.
