Great Doctor Ling Ran

Chapter 938 - Straightforward

Chapter 938: Straightforward

When the surgery entered the fourth hour, the visitation room became jam-packed.

Many people were standing just now, but now, their legs gave way and many started sitting down.

Faulkner sat down in the front row. But he looked absent-minded, agitated, and dazed.

According to his original plan and how he imagined things would progress when he first received the invitation, Faulkner’s trip to China was to earn money. The surgery which had been expected to be held between six to ten hours and less than twelve hours would be completed in two parts. Then, he could earn the expenses for the half-month summer camp for his children. The plan seemed perfect and made him appear like a loving father, and no matter how he boasted about it, it was appropriate.

However, Faulkner felt like he was in a lecture right now.

The skills of the young Chinese doctor at the ground floor were solid, and it was visibly so. He was so strong that Faulkner had the urge to take notes as he watched up to this point

If this had happened ten years ago or even five years ago, he would happily watch even at the cost of no pay whatsoever. After all, no matter how much money was paid, strong skills were still the most important thing for a surgeon.

However, since he saw the scene of his wife getting really cosy with the secondhand car dealer, Faulkner had changed his mind.

No matter how strong his skills were and how well the surgery was performed, what was the use in it? He could not even compare to a secondhand car dealer. The guy was just twenty years younger than him, looked slightly handsome, had more hair, was taller, more muscular, had a larger underwear size, sweeter mouth, gentler, and was more understanding. But why was he just better than the doctor from Mayo Clinic?

It did not make sense at all, which also meant that it was totally useless being a good doctor.

Therefore, Faulkner worked as an official high-income middle-aged man who earned from consultations. He became quiet and relaxed, and he would watch porn when he had nothing to do. When he was free, he would go to a pub and pick up women with “I am Doctor Faulkner”…

Who could expect that even a little wish like this could not come true?

Who could expect him taking a one-day flight over and ended up attending a lecture?

Who would expect him not earning any extra income, and still needing to watch a younger and better looking doctor perform the surgery that he was the best at, surpassing him at every step?

“What are we doing here, actually?” Faulkner could not help but lament.

“You earn money by just watching a surgery, isn’t that good?” Dobin from New York chuckled. He was very calm, and he was totally fine with or without performing the surgery. If he did the surgery, then he would go to Las Vegas. If he did not perform the surgery, he would be going to Macau. It was a win-win situation.

Faulkner was not very close with him, so he just said, “You’re behaving like a puppet. Are you clapping hands for the Chinese doctors? If I need to earn money like this, I’m more willing to go to Japan. At least they will be more respectful.”

“I thought you would go to whichever place that gives you more money.” Dobin smirked obnoxiously.

Faulkner shrugged. “There are a lot of daily tasks in Mayo.”

“Then, you can take a good rest on this trip.”

“The surgery is not finished yet.”

“With such gorgeous skills, would we be able to solve any problem that he can’t?” Dobin glanced at Lao Yongyong either intentionally or unintentionally. Based on his experience and what he had seen so far in his life, he also suspected that Lao Yongyong was on an armed patrol, and in fact, he was doing a reverse armed patrol.

Faulkner pursed his lips. He was not willing to agree with Dobin, so he only watched Ling Ran’s surgical operation and said, “They are really gorgeous.”

“Chinese doctors improve their skills very quickly.” Corbert the German only joined the conversation at this moment. Due to his relationship with medical intermediaries, he had been going in and out of China many times over the recent years, and he could be considered to be rather well-informed.

The two American doctors showed faint smiles without giving any response.

The short conversation between these three foreign doctors stopped at that point. Each of them had differing thoughts as they watched the surgery at the lower floor.

A few doctors from Yun Hua Hospital who understood English were quite surprised. Ling Ran was skilled, and this was recognized by everyone in Yun Hua Hospital, but most of that recognition was directed to his hepatectomy, Achilles tendon repair technique, or M tang technique.

Combined liver and pancreatic radical surgery was more complicated, and it represented more details and greater difficulty. Any doctor who was able to complete a surgery like this could gain a foothold in the hospital, and gaining a very secure position would not be a problem either.

However, when the few of them heard the foreign doctors compliment Ling Ran’s gorgeous skills, they felt that they were failing to appreciate the scene unfolding before them in its entirety.

From their perspectives, no matter how skillful Ling Ran was, he had only started developing his combined liver and pancreatic radical surgery skills with his foundational understanding of hepatectomy and gastrectomy. Based on the development of a normal doctor, the newly developed surgery needed to be carried out at least one hundred times before he could be considered a professional and specialist. Even if the surgical scale of combined liver and pancreatic radical surgery was large and its surgical period was long, Ling Ran still could not be considered good or bad without performing at least fifty or sixty cases.

Ling Ran had not performed ten cases of gastrectomy in combination with hepatic resection before, even if they considered every single surgery in his portfolio. When he was praised so much by the foreigners, it was difficult for them to understand.

“This patient’s stomach is actually good looking.” After performing the surgery for a few hours, Lu Wenbin started feeling relaxed.

Ma Yanlin cast a brief glance at the upper floor, and he was too shy to answer. He did not have a BMW and three houses, and he could never be as free as Lu Wenbin…

Zhang Anmin who had become an associate chief physician, gently answered, “This means that the patient’s body condition is still pretty good.”

“In this case, will he recover better?” Lu Wenbin just wanted to talk. The surgery had been going on for too long, he needed to unwind.

Naturally, it was also because the surgery had started becoming easy. After they finished handling body parts like the liver, the remaining parts, like gastrectomy, were relatively simpler.

For the young doctors who had become used to hepatectomy, their stress level at the moment practically vanished.

Zhang Anmin felt about the same. He gently smiled and said, “He will definitely recover well. He might even have a better prognosis than the previous patient.”

Lu Wenbin said, “The previous patient was in a coma, and his stomach looked really bad. Sigh… if Doctor Ling had not performed a surgery on him, it would have been very difficult for him to take another look at his wife.”

Zhang Anmin smiled and nodded. He agreed with Lu Wenbin. “Although his stomach looked bad, he does have a wife.”

Lu Wenbin thought carefully about what Zhang Anmin said, and he decided that a quiet operating theater was much better at making a person feel emotionally stable.

The surgery went on in silence for several moments.

The people, including Faulkner, had taken two meals before the completion of the surgery was announced.

As Du Jiadong was pushed into the ICU, everyone sighed in relief.

They could not enter the ICU at will, so countless family members and people who called themselves family members surrounded the ICU. They talked and laughed loudly, and they proved their love to the chairman with their volume, to the point that when the nurses chased away a group of people, another group arrived.

When Ling Ran appeared at the ICU after he showered and changed his clothes, the warm atmosphere outside the ICU reached its climax.

“Thank you, Doctor Ling. We thank you on behalf of our chairman.”

“Doctor Ling, our chairman has been living a hard life. Please take care of him more!”

“Doctor Ling, this is my name card.”

Everyone had something weighing in their minds as they expressed their own emotions. Each of them had their thoughts hidden in their heads, but when they gathered together, they stated their intentions explicitly.
