Chapter 507: Chapter 349: Abandoned Station, Monster Tide
It lunged again, spraying a vast sheet of highly acidic slime that covered an enormous area.
Wu Liangchen’s form flickered as he dodged and weaved within the narrow main control room, all while continuously attempting to attack.
But whether it was his fists, feet, steel ball bearings, or firearms, none of them could inflict a fatal blow.
The monster was like a gigantic, living slug—incredibly venomous and corrosive. Losing a bit of its "flesh" was completely meaningless to it.
’I have to find its core, or use some special method to destroy it completely!’
Wu Liangchen’s gaze swept across the main control room. ’This is a sewage treatment plant. Pipes and valves everywhere...’
’Wait, treating sewage?’
An idea flashed through his mind. While dodging the monster’s attacks, he moved closer to a rust-covered control panel. Though most of the equipment was damaged, a few huge, red valves still seemed to be connected to the main piping system.
’Since this monster was born from filth, perhaps... it will react to certain "cleaning agents" or chemical substances?’
The instant the monster lunged again, Wu Liangchen surged with power, grabbing a nearby valve connected to a thick pipe.
CREEEAK!
He actually twisted the rusted-shut valve open by force!
PSSSH—!
A dull rumble sounded from within the pipe. Immediately after, a stream of murky liquid with the strong scent of disinfectant burst from the pipe’s rupture, dousing the slime monster! It seemed to be a potent disinfectant concentrate or some kind of industrial cleaner left over from the plant’s operational days!
"SCREEE—!!!"
The monster, which had only let out low hisses before regardless of the damage it sustained, now let out a piercing, shrill shriek!
The areas doused by the liquid dissolved as quickly as hot oil on snow, emitting plumes of white smoke. The faces embedded in the slime let out even more tragic, silent wails, as if they had finally found some kind of release.
’It’s working!’
Wu Liangchen’s spirits soared. Without hesitation, he did the same again, breaking open several nearby pipes and containers that might hold similar chemicals.
A mixture of various unknown liquids with a pungent chemical smell quickly filled the main control room, completely enveloping the slime monster.
The monster thrashed and writhed wildly under the chemical corrosion. Its massive body shrank and dissolved at a visible rate, eventually melting into a bubbling, foul-smelling black stain, utterly devoid of life. The tormented faces dissipated into the air along with it.
Having dealt with the bizarre creature, Wu Liangchen finally let out a sigh of relief. He walked to the central control console, opened a cabinet, and his eyes immediately fell upon a silver chip on the dust-covered motherboard. He pulled it out.
The chip was cool to the touch, engraved with intricate patterns he couldn’t decipher.
After securing the chip, Wu Liangchen didn’t linger. He swiftly departed from the sewage treatment plant, which reeked of death and decay.
The next two target locations were comparatively much smoother.
One was an abandoned underground warehouse teeming with mutated giant insects. Though disgusting, they posed little threat and were quickly cleared out by Wu Liangchen.
The other was an abandoned underground shelter, occupied by a type of fungal organism skilled at creating illusions. But in the face of Wu Liangchen’s formidable willpower and Perception Power, these Illusion Techniques were like tissue paper, easily torn to shreds.
He successfully retrieved the other two "relics of a bygone era" designated by Old K—a metal fragment of peculiar structure and a sealed culture dish containing some kind of faintly glowing blue liquid.
When Wu Liangchen followed the map to the final target location—the abandoned "Central Hub" subway station—his expression grew unprecedentedly grim.
Merely standing before the pitch-black maw of the subway entrance, an oppressive, bone-chilling aura washed over him, thick with the scent of rust, dust, and an indescribable... deathly stillness.
It felt as if the entrance led not to an abandoned station, but to some forgotten kingdom of the dead.
Unlike the previous locations, the sense of danger here was so intense that it raised a fine layer of goosebumps on Wu Liangchen’s skin. His Perception Power blared like an alarm, telling him that a horror far surpassing anything he had yet faced lurked inside.
Wu Liangchen took a deep breath, bringing himself to peak condition and heightening his Perception Power to its absolute limit. Then, without hesitation, he stepped into the darkness.
The subway station’s interior was vast, but even more dilapidated.
The platforms had long since collapsed, the rails were rusted and fractured, and countless severed cables and twisted metal structures hung from the ceiling. Only a type of bioluminescent fungus on the walls still stubbornly flickered with a faint glow, illuminating mottled bloodstains and massive claw marks.
"SKITTER SKITTER..."
A faint, dense skittering came from all directions, as if countless things were crawling in the darkness.
Wu Liangchen’s gaze, sharp as a blade, swept over his surroundings.
Suddenly, pairs of scarlet dots lit up in the darkness!
The next moment, accompanied by a piercing shriek like grinding metal, countless dark figures poured out from the depths of the tunnels, from the abandoned train cars, and even from holes in the ceiling!
The monsters were varied in form, but they all exuded a nauseating aura of terror.
Some looked like hybrids of flesh and machinery forcibly stitched together, their limbs twisted and their joints spewing sparks. Others resembled flayed humanoids, their skin a metallic grayish-white, moving with lightning speed and possessing claws as sharp as knives. There were even phantoms composed of some unknown energy floating in mid-air, radiating a deadly chill.
