Chapter 495: Chapter 344: Blind Man, Superb Swordsmanship

Watching the two figures swiftly vanish into the darkness, a helpless and bitter expression appeared on Alina’s face.

She knew she was a hot potato right now. Both the Resistance Army and the Alliance Government were looking for her, so anyone who got involved was asking for trouble.

It was only natural for them to not want to get mixed up in it. Besides, they had already helped her once. Making any more demands would have been shameless.

She gritted her teeth, got her bearings, and then chose another path. Her figure soon disappeared into the vast mountain forest.

Meanwhile, Wu Liangchen and Song Ling’Er were also making their way through the rugged mountain paths.

Song Ling’Er gripped her gun tightly, warily scanning her surroundings.

Although she didn’t understand why Wu Liangchen had been so cold to that woman, it was a decision made by Big Brother Wu, so she would obey it unconditionally.

The path underfoot grew increasingly difficult. Years of accumulated fallen leaves gave off a putrid smell, and slippery moss made it hard to keep their footing.

Thankfully, Song Ling’Er had unlocked the root of her Magic, which had greatly enhanced her physical abilities. Otherwise, she would have had a tough time getting through this mountain forest.

However, they didn’t encounter any animals along the way, not even the snakes, insects, and rodents that typically thrived in such environments.

Animals have keen instincts, so they all steered clear after sensing the chilling, blade-like aura emanating from Wu Liangchen.

After walking like this for over an hour, Wu Liangchen suddenly stopped.

"Let’s rest!"

Song Ling’Er let out a long breath and wiped the sweat from her forehead, her whole body aching.

They were next to a small waterfall. The cool mist that hit their faces had a calming effect.

Song Ling’Er took two wilderness survival energy bars she had bought earlier out of her bag and handed them to Wu Liangchen.

This stuff was military surplus, specially optimized for wilderness survival. Although it tasted as awful as ever, it was nutritious enough to quickly replenish one’s energy.

But Wu Liangchen didn’t take them. "Wait here a moment!"

With that, he dashed into the mountain forest.

Song Ling’Er was baffled, wondering what Big Brother Wu was up to.

But just a moment later, her question was answered.

Because Wu Liangchen returned carrying two wild pheasants.

Then, under Song Ling’Er’s astonished and worshipful gaze, Wu Liangchen deftly and efficiently started a bonfire, then plucked and gutted the pheasants.

Just over ten minutes later, the pheasants hanging over the fire began to emit a tempting aroma, making Song Ling’Er’s mouth water.

"Try some." Wu Liangchen broke off a drumstick for her.

Song Ling’Er reached out and took it. After one bite, her eyes went wide.

"This is delicious!"

Wu Liangchen smiled. "If you like it, then eat up."

"Mhm!" Song Ling’Er was too busy eating to talk, taking big bites.

Although it was only seasoned with a little salt, the taste was excellent thanks to his perfect control of the heat.

Wu Liangchen watched the girl feast, a dazed look suddenly coming over him.

It was as if he had returned to those days when he, his sister, and Yang Lian’Er were fleeing south.

’That must have been when I perfected my wilderness grilling skills.’

And after thinking of his sister and Yang Lian’Er, Wu Liangchen couldn’t stop himself from thinking about Erya.

Although it hadn’t even been a full year since he left, so much had happened and his circumstances had changed so drastically that it felt like a lifetime ago.

Even for someone as iron-willed as Wu Liangchen, he couldn’t help but feel a little wistful.

"Big Brother Wu, you should eat too!" Perhaps sensing something was off, or maybe just wanting to share, Song Ling’Er held a glistening, golden-brown drumstick out to him.

Wu Liangchen smiled. "You eat first. If it’s not enough, I’ll go catch more."

To the current Wu Liangchen, this mountain forest was like an unguarded pantry, free for the taking.

"Okay."

Song Ling’Er responded softly, her mood inexplicably sinking.

After unlocking the root of her Magic, her senses had become incredibly sharp, so she was able to perceive the flicker of melancholy that had just crossed Wu Liangchen.

She didn’t know how to describe the feeling.

But it was just like when she was a child, hiding in a pile of weeds in the wild and gazing up at the bright moon in the sky.

The wind was gentle and the moon was bright, but she still felt an emptiness inside.

Fortunately, this atmosphere didn’t last long. Everything returned to normal when Wu Liangchen came back with two wild rabbits.

After eating and drinking their fill and resting for another hour or so, the moonlight was perfect, so Wu Liangchen decided to continue their journey.

Song Ling’Er naturally had no objections.

A girl from the slums wasn’t that delicate; this little bit of hardship was nothing to her.

And while Wu Liangchen and Song Ling’Er were traveling, the atmosphere in a hidden underground base dozens of miles away was grim.

In the conference room, everyone was staring intently at a video playing on the screen.

It had been downloaded from the helmet recorder of a Resistance Army soldier who had been lucky enough to escape. The footage was extremely shaky, mostly filled with the light of explosions and the screams of soldiers.

But everyone present watched with intense focus.

Because in this video, which was less than two minutes long, one figure was incredibly conspicuous.

He was seen charging up the hillside with the force of a thunderbolt. Then, in less than two seconds, he had turned the fully armed Huo Shan into a bloody pulp.
