Chapter 410: Chapter 302: Abandoning the Ship and Going Ashore, the Unlicensed Driver (Part 2)

This dismissive attitude greatly displeased the conceited Xiong Tianzong.

So when he saw that Yuan Mingfei might go up against the Sun family, he was naturally delighted.

’Worst case, I’ll just find a new Navigator next time.’

Meanwhile, after pushing Yuan Mingfei onto the pier, Wu Liangchen asked, "Where to now?"

"Don’t worry, someone will be here to pick us up soon," Yuan Mingfei said. He then looked up at Wu Liangchen and smiled.

"You don’t have to worry too much. No one dares to make a move on the pier, so at least the two of us are safe for now."

"I’m not worried." Wu Liangchen was telling the truth.

’What’s done is done. Better to face it calmly than to live in fear.’

A hint of admiration appeared in Yuan Mingfei’s eyes. "Good. You’ve protected me this whole way, and I will keep my promise to guarantee your safety."

"Thank you!"

As they spoke, a vehicle resembling a car from his past life sped toward them. It screeched to a halt, and the window rolled down to reveal a rough-looking face.

"Get in!" After the two cold words were spat out, a car door opened and a ramp extended.

Yuan Mingfei said to Wu Liangchen, "Let’s go. This is our ride."

Wu Liangchen glanced at the gruff man driving. He was incredibly burly with a somewhat menacing appearance.

As if sensing Wu Liangchen’s gaze, the burly man shot him a look and said impatiently, "Stop dawdling. The Sun family will be here any second. If we don’t go now, none of you are leaving."

’The Sun family...’

Wu Liangchen committed the name to memory and pushed Yuan Mingfei into the vehicle.

Before the door could even fully close, the burly man slammed on the accelerator. The large, intimidating vehicle shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

Despite the incredible speed, it was dead silent inside the car.

But they hadn’t gotten far from the pier when several black trucks appeared on the road behind them, closing in at high speed.

Yuan Mingfei’s expression turned grim. "Well? Can you shake them?"

"Don’t worry. There isn’t a car in Qing Province that can catch me!" the burly man said with contempt. He then violently turned the wheel, and the vehicle shot into a narrow alley on the side of the road.

Past the pier was a residential area. Unlike the gleaming high-rises in the distance, this place was mostly low-slung, two or three-story homes with extremely narrow roads.

But the burly man’s driving was as aggressive as his build.

The vehicle tore through the alleys at breakneck speed, sometimes having to resort to extreme maneuvers just to make a turn.

After a series of twists and turns, they quickly lost the pursuing vehicles.

The vehicle then stopped in front of a small building hidden deep within the residential district.

"We’re here!" the burly man said coldly, opening the door.

"Thank you!" Yuan Mingfei said.

"Three thousand points!" The burly man didn’t respond to Yuan Mingfei’s thanks, simply stating his price.

Yuan Mingfei didn’t waste words, swiping his card cleanly.

The burly man’s expression softened slightly. He then said in a low voice, "If you need a car again, call me in advance. Also, it’ll cost more next time. After all, that was the Sun family."

"No problem."

The burly man drove off. Wu Liangchen pushed Yuan Mingfei into the secluded building, only to find its interior was lavishly furnished and fully stocked with supplies.

"This is one of my temporary safe houses. It’s quite hidden, so the Sun family shouldn’t be able to find us for a while," Yuan Mingfei explained.

But Wu Liangchen didn’t relax. He asked in a deep voice, "Who are the Sun family?"

"The Sun family is one of the ten great families of Qing Province. They’re very powerful. I’d heard before that the Sun family Patriarch was collecting high-quality Martial Veins for his direct grandson, but I didn’t expect it to be true," Yuan Mingfei explained.

"So it was Xiong Tianzong and the others who sold my information to the Sun family?" Wu Liangchen reacted instantly, his voice turning cold.

"Definitely. I’d have done the same thing in their shoes," Yuan Mingfei said with an unsurprised expression.

Wu Liangchen said nothing, but his expression grew icy.

Seeing this, Yuan Mingfei couldn’t help but laugh. "People in the Alliance are all like that. You’ll get used to it."

"Who was that burly man just now?"

"Oh, he’s an unlicensed driver in Qing Province who takes on private jobs. He has a great reputation and is extremely skilled, so even if he’s a bit more expensive, I’m willing to hire him," Yuan Mingfei explained.

Wu Liangchen looked at Yuan Mingfei, then after a moment, asked in confusion, "Didn’t you say you Navigators have a guild? Why not ask them for help?"

"Heh, you’re still too naive. In my current state, if I asked other Navigators for help, I might get it... but it’s far more likely I’d be devoured, with not even my bones left behind," Yuan Mingfei said with a bitter smile.

"But that’s not what you said on the ship," Wu Liangchen said coldly.

"I know, but you have to give me some time. My power is recovering. As soon as I can protect myself, asking the guild for help will be fine. By then, they’ll have to think twice before trying anything," Yuan Mingfei explained with a sincere look. As if afraid Wu Liangchen wouldn’t believe him, he quickly added, "For us Navigators, or any practitioner of Magic, the most dangerous people are our own kind. It’s possible for them to devour the Magic I’ve mastered, so I have to be on my guard."

Wu Liangchen finally understood. His deal with Yuan Mingfei was far from over. For now, at least, he still had to protect him.

He suddenly recalled something the man had said during the meal with the sailors.

’In this Alliance, you can’t trust anyone.’

Although Yuan Mingfei hadn’t harmed him, Wu Liangchen still felt very uneasy about this behavior—deliberately hiding the truth and intentionally or unintentionally misleading him.

"So when will you be back to normal?"

"Ten days. In ten days at most, I’ll have recovered enough to protect myself," Yuan Mingfei said hurriedly.

"And don’t worry, I’ve set up many alarms around here. If the Sun family dares to come, I’ll know immediately and we can move."

Wu Liangchen fell silent.

He was weighing the entire situation.

He’d been plotted against ever since boarding the ship. He’d finally made a deal with someone who seemed somewhat reliable, only to be played again.

It made him furious.

He suddenly felt the urge to charge out and fight the Sun family to the death.

Just then, Yuan Mingfei seemed to see through Wu Liangchen’s thoughts and quickly explained, "Don’t. Let’s not even talk about the Sun family’s immense power and the large number of formidable Martial Artists they keep. On top of that, they have many Magic practitioners who would die for them."

"Even if you could beat those artificially enhanced Martial Artists, the Magic practitioners are not easy to deal with."

"I’ll give you ten days. If you’re still making excuses after ten days, don’t blame me for what happens next," Wu Liangchen said coldly.

"Don’t worry! In fact, ten days is just a conservative estimate. I think six or seven days should be enough," Yuan Mingfei said quickly with an appeasing smile.

Meanwhile, outside the residential area, a woman with a graceful figure stood atop a tall building, coldly staring at the intricate, hive-like urban district before her.

This was also the only place in Qing Province not covered by the Celestial Eye.

"Did they hide in there?"

"That’s right. We’ve already investigated. Meng Li took the job and lost our men."

"Useless. The Sun family pays you all such high salaries every year, and you can’t even outrun a freelance driver who takes private jobs?" the woman snorted coldly.

The men in black all lowered their heads in frustration, not daring to utter a single word of defense.

"Go investigate Yuan Mingfei’s background. At the same time, notify the Navigators’ guild that the Sun family has claimed Wu Liangchen, and tell them to stay out of it."

"Yes!"

After giving her orders, Yao Li looked at the district before her, a fire seeming to burn in her beautiful eyes.

She had a feeling this matter wasn’t so simple.

Since when did Navigators become so loyal and righteous, willing to offend the Sun family just to protect an outsider Martial Artist?

’There’s definitely something fishy going on here!’
