Chapter 404 - 299: Navigator, Tentacle Monster
Chapter 404: Chapter 299: Navigator, Tentacle Monster
Although Cai Liben was the ship’s boatswain, his position still rarely granted him an audience with this individual, whose status surpassed even the captain’s—a true figure at the top of the pyramid.
He followed the second mate to the navigator’s quarters. Before they even went inside, the navigator’s cold voice drifted out.
"Tell your captain this Sea Siren is extremely powerful. Even I require extensive preparations to repel it. So, whatever it takes, have him hold out for at least five minutes."
Hearing this, the second mate didn’t dare leave, so he ordered Cai Liben to relay the message.
After listening to Cai Liben, Xiong Tianzong was cursing up a storm in his head, but there was no use saying anything else now.
He reached out, grabbed the handset for the ship’s intercom, and yelled, "All hands, attention! Prepare for battle! I don’t care what you have to do, you will hold for five minutes!"
Though Xiong Tianzong was usually lost in his debauchery, when a true crisis struck, his years of training allowed him to quickly regain his composure.
The gravity of the situation went without saying. If this massive ship were to truly capsize here, no one would make it out alive.
In the face of this, everyone’s will to survive surged.
The crewmen and sailors brandished their weapons, unleashing a torrent of ammunition into the thick fog through the exterior firing ports.
The repair teams, risking infection from the red mist, worked desperately to mend the wounds inflicted upon the massive vessel.
But it was all for naught. This was the Sea Siren’s domain.
The ammunition vanished into the fog with no effect, while the siren’s song only grew clearer.
The repair teams did manage to seal a massive breach, but only at the cost of several members becoming infected by the mist.
Yet the situation continued to deteriorate.
The Sea Siren’s assault was relentless.
The problem was, there was no predicting when the tentacles would appear.
You might be frantically firing at the spot where one tentacle had just vanished, only for another to lash out from a different direction in the next instant.
On top of that, the ever-clearer song of the Sea Siren was a major disruption.
Some of the more weak-willed sailors even began to suffer from hallucinations.
Amid the chaos engulfing the entire ship, at a lookout post near the bow, several sailors were mechanically and numbly pulling their triggers.
Bullets streamed through the specially designed firing ports and into the mist, but this accomplished nothing more than wasting ammunition.
"AAAHHH, MONSTERS! THERE ARE MONSTERS!" one sailor suddenly went berserk, screaming hysterically as he aimed his weapon at the men around him.
The faces of the nearby sailors paled, but at that moment, a figure appeared in a flash. With a single chop, he knocked the hysterical sailor unconscious, then snatched the machine gun from his hands, aimed it outside, and pulled the trigger.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
After three consecutive shots, a spray of blood erupted from a tentacle that had just emerged from the mist.
Their spirits lifted at the sight. Without even bothering to ask who this sudden newcomer was, the sailors all raised their guns and unleashed a frantic barrage at the tentacle.
But without exception, every one of their bullets missed.
The tentacle’s movements were simply too fast, and as it flickered in and out of view within the mist, hitting it was all but impossible.
But Wu Liangchen did.
He stared out the firing port, his expression as still as water, waiting to seize the fleeting opportunities to strike.
Each time the tentacle materialized, a gunshot rang out in unison.
And unlike the others who were just holding down the trigger, Wu Liangchen always fired in a highly disciplined three-round burst.
Crucially, he never missed, inflicting significant damage on the tentacle.
This god-like marksmanship left the other sailors completely dumbfounded.
They would have been even more astounded if they had known this was Wu Liangchen’s first time ever using such a weapon.
In truth, Wu Liangchen had previously discovered that once his archery reached its zenith, he could quickly master any other ranged discipline.
It was just as the legends say: master one path, and a hundred paths open to you.
Furthermore, the machine guns on this massive ship were far more advanced and accurate than the firearms of the Folangji.
Thus, from the moment he picked it up, Wu Liangchen demonstrated an almost inhuman level of precision.
The tentacles may have had thick, tough hides, but they couldn’t withstand such a continuous, precise barrage.
And so, after a dozen or so shots, the tentacle was severed right down the middle.
Blood sprayed out like a waterfall as the remaining stump of the tentacle writhed in agony. At the same time, the song that had been constantly ringing in their ears turned shrill and furious.
"Fucking incredible, man! Where’d you learn to shoot like that?" With the situation momentarily easing, a nearby sailor couldn’t help but stare at Wu Liangchen in awe.
The strong command respect wherever they go, especially on a battlefield where lives are on the line.
After all, who wouldn’t want a master marksman with such unbelievable skill on their side?
But Wu Liangchen was in no mood for idle chatter.
He did not believe this so-called Sea Siren would retreat so easily.
Sure enough.
After less than twenty seconds of quiet, several tentacles burst from the red mist, aiming directly for Wu Liangchen’s position.
"Holy shit, fall back!" one sailor shrieked, seeing the ferocious speed of the approaching tentacles.
But Wu Liangchen didn’t retreat. Instead, he snatched the gun from a nearby sailor who was frozen in terror, brought both weapons to bear, and opened fire.
This time, he abandoned precise bursts. Relying on his freakishly fast reflexes, he tracked the tentacles and squeezed the triggers without pause.
The bullets were like a swarm of piranhas that had scented blood, latching onto the tentacles without a single shot going astray.
The sailors were stunned by the near-miraculous sight, snapping out of it only when Wu Liangchen barked in a low voice, "Reload me!"
As if waking from a dream, they scrambled to help Wu Liangchen reload.
With their coordinated efforts, two more tentacles were severed in a matter of seconds, drawing a cheer from the sailors.
This display also caught the attention of others on the ship.
As the offensive reached a fever pitch, the mist had thinned considerably, improving visibility.
In the nearby captain’s cabin, Xiong Tianzong couldn’t help but be stunned when he saw the tentacles in the waters ahead being shot clean in two.
"Who’s that shooting? That marksmanship is incredible!"
"I don’t know, but it’s not one of our crew," First Mate Ma Yuhui said grimly, his eyes filled with awe.
He was a shooting enthusiast himself and considered a decent shot, which was precisely why he understood how terrifyingly difficult this was.
This wasn’t shooting at a stationary target; this was firing at high-speed tentacles in extremely poor visibility.
That alone was incredibly difficult.
But what Ma Yuhui noticed was the impossibly tight grouping of the shots. Almost every bullet landed in the same area, which was the only way to sever the tentacle.
To do that, the difficulty wasn’t just doubled—it was an order of magnitude higher.
’Could it be one of the Martial Artists we have on board?’
’But their worlds don’t have these kinds of machine guns, do they?’
Just as Ma Yuhui was puzzling over this, the tentacles attacking other parts of the ship suddenly vanished, as if their ferocity had been provoked.
A moment later, countless tentacles converged in the mist before the bow, resembling a dense swarm of snakes as they rushed toward the source of the gunfire.
"Quick, provide covering fire!" Xiong Tianzong yelled immediately.
Muzzles flashed all over the ship, but at such a distance, most of the shots went wide.
Even the shots that did hit only produced small spurts of blood, having no real effect.
But just then, a deafening volley of gunfire erupted, forming a torrent of lead that slammed into the charging mass of tentacles.
Blood splattered and chunks of flesh flew through the air.
But the tentacles seemed to possess a regenerative ability; unless they were severed completely, they would recover from their injuries almost instantly.
Relying on this trait, the swarm of tentacles pushed through the hail of bullets, rapidly closing in on the ship.
Wu Liangchen sighed internally. ’This is the limit. These machine guns are powerful, but it’s impossible to completely wipe out the Sea Siren’s tentacles. For now, the only choice is a tactical retreat.’
Just as Wu Liangchen was about to fall back, the desolate, sonorous blast of a horn suddenly echoed across the entire sea.
