Chapter 401 - 298: Mysterious Singing
Chapter 401: Chapter 298: Mysterious Singing
"You look like a Martial Artist. How did you end up so miserable?" Wu Liangchen asked after the man across from him had eaten and drunk his fill.
A bitter smile appeared on the man’s face. "Don’t even get me started. When I first boarded this ship, I was just like you—full of confidence, thinking I had everything under control. But it took less than a month for the casino upstairs to teach me a harsh lesson."
"That was thirty thousand points!"
As he finished speaking, the man’s face was filled with regret.
Wu Liangchen understood.
’Oh, so he’s a degenerate gambler.’
It wasn’t strange that there was a casino on the giant ship.
It would be stranger if there wasn’t.
After all, when so many people with "fortunes" in points were gathered in one place, how could they possibly do without the most primal and thrilling game of all: gambling.
What Wu Liangchen was curious about was what kind of casino could clean out a high-level Martial Artist like this man.
After all, immense self-control was a prerequisite for becoming a high-level Martial Artist.
As if sensing Wu Liangchen’s curiosity, the man sighed. "To be honest with you, I’m not even a gambling man. I first went to the casino just to kill some time, but I don’t know what happened... I got carried away and ended up losing everything."
"So, friend, I’m warning you—stay away from that place. It’s no joke."
With that, the man stood up and left.
The moment he was gone, the waiter mustered his courage and approached.
"Sir, please don’t listen to that man’s nonsense. That guy is a complete scoundrel who does nothing but mooch meals all day. He even steals things sometimes, so no one here has any respect for him."
Wu Liangchen glanced at the waiter and, seeing the eager expression on the young man’s face, couldn’t help but smile.
"Thanks for the warning. I’ll keep it in mind."
With that, Wu Liangchen got up and left.
After returning to his room, Wu Liangchen rested for a moment before sitting cross-legged in meditation. He began to use his powerful perception to scan the room for anything out of the ordinary.
Although he hadn’t seen anything resembling surveillance equipment anywhere on the giant ship, Wu Liangchen decided that caution dictated a thorough search first.
Just then, he felt the hull beneath him give a slight shudder before the ship slowly began to move.
The sensation was extremely subtle; an ordinary person would never have noticed it.
But for Wu Liangchen, deep in his meditative state, every minute tremor of the hull roared in his ears like a clap of thunder.
Wu Liangchen knew the giant ship was setting sail.
Sure enough, as a long, drawn-out whistle sounded, Wu Liangchen suddenly found that he could no longer sense any fluctuations of Star Force.
Recently, Wu Liangchen had been making significant progress with his Star-Swallowing Meridian Opening Skill.
This was thanks to the pure Star Force found deep out at sea, untainted by human presence.
After making it a habit, Wu Liangchen maintained his connection to the power of the stars—some visible, some hidden—at all times, whether he was walking, standing, sitting, or lying down.
Although the connection was faint, it was undeniably always present.
But now, that connection had been severed.
It was like suddenly entering a tunnel and losing cell service.
Wu Liangchen understood. The giant ship must have sailed into the mist.
Sure enough, when he stood and went to the window to look, he saw nothing but a vast, blank whiteness outside. Nothing was visible.
Just then, an announcement blared through the hallway.
A cold, emotionless female voice recited in a mechanical cadence: "The ship has entered a hazardous zone. For the remainder of the voyage, no one is permitted on deck or to open any windows. Violators will be responsible for the consequences."
"I repeat: until the all-clear is given, no one is permitted on deck or to open any windows."
The voice echoed through the passageway. Lights in many cabins went out, and the previously bustling atmosphere stalled, falling into silence.
Wu Liangchen stood by the window, listening quietly. A strange light flickered in his eyes, his thoughts unreadable.
Meanwhile, the man who had mooched a meal off Wu Liangchen was hiding in a cluttered stairwell, happily sipping from a flask of wine he had procured from who-knows-where.
When he heard the alarm, the hand raising the flask to his lips trembled slightly before immediately steadying.
In a luxurious cabin, the captain, having spent the entire day in carnal conquest, finally fell into a deep slumber. His earth-shattering snores made it impossible for the woman beside him to sleep.
Even so, she didn’t dare leave the room.
Especially when the cold alarm blared, she trembled and buried her head deeper into the pillow.
「The first night passed just like that.」
Although many people had stayed awake all night, nothing had actually happened. This allowed everyone to breathe a collective sigh of relief, and the tense atmosphere eased considerably.
Wu Liangchen didn’t go to the restaurant to eat, opting instead to have his meal delivered to his room.
It wasn’t to avoid the freeloader; he simply had more important things to do.
He stood at the window, staring into the fog outside. His mind, however, was racing, his perceptive abilities pushed to their absolute limit. His goal was to sense the giant ship’s trajectory.
No one would have believed it if he’d said so. After all, with nothing but endless fog outside the window and no points of reference, how could anyone possibly discern the ship’s trajectory?
And yet, Wu Liangchen was doing just that.
His method was simple: he was sensing the faint tremors the ship produced as it moved.
