Chapter 347: Chapter 263: Meticulous Arrangements, Setting Sail
"Lian’Er, why aren’t you eating?" Wu Mengchan asked, a little confused.
"I’m not hungry." Of course, Yang Lian’Er wasn’t about to admit that she was skipping the meal because she felt she’d gotten fat and was trying to lose weight.
"Not hungry?"
Both Wu Mengchan and Bai Erya were a little shocked.
After all the time they’d spent together, they knew Yang Lian’Er all too well. She could skip out on anything, but eating was the one thing she had a special fondness for.
Though she didn’t eat huge portions, she was constantly snacking.
For example, Wu Mengchan had once seen her, immediately after finishing a massive plate of beef, turn around and start on a dish of jujube paste pastries.
’Why would she suddenly stop eating today?’
Wu Liangchen, of course, knew what was going on, but he didn’t explain, just smiling without a word.
And while Wu Liangchen was eating with his sister, Erya, and the others on the top floor of Jufu Pavilion, a middle-aged woman in Flower Square gazed at the not-so-distant Jingxin Courtyard, lost in thought.
She was, of course, already aware of the events at the Huangpu Guard.
That was precisely why her heart was filled with emotion.
’This Wu Liangchen is truly incredible. First, he turned the Imperial Capital upside down, and now he’s even defeated the East Sea’s fleet.’
But this was also why she was hesitant, unsure if she should return to Jingxin Courtyard.
That’s right. This middle-aged woman was none other than Zen Master Jingxin, who had once appeared in the Imperial Capital before quickly departing.
By now, she knew that Wu Liangchen’s original purpose in bringing Yang Lian’Er to the Huangpu Guard was to find her.
’But things are different now. My meager power is nothing before Wu Liangchen.’
’On top of that, because of a favor I owed from years ago, I was forced to do things for Prince Jing. This makes me even more hesitant.’
’What if Wu Liangchen holds it against me? What would I do?’
At this thought, Zen Master Jingxin couldn’t help but sigh, murmuring softly, "Oh, Peiqin, Peiqin... You probably don’t even realize what a generational talent you’ve recruited."
And as she was sighing, another woman, who had traveled a thousand miles, finally entered the city.
Chen Baimei felt like she was about to fall apart.
The arduous journey had worsened the internal injuries she sustained during her escape. Only sheer willpower had kept her going until she reached this place.
’Thankfully, it was all worth it.’
When she saw the large sign for Flower Square, she felt as if a great burden had been lifted, and she stumbled inside.
"I need to see Wu Liangchen!" she said to a young man responsible for keeping order.
"No shit. Who doesn’t want to see Brother Xiaowu right now? Get in line," the young man from Flower Square said impatiently.
Chen Baimei took a deep breath and said, "I have something urgent to report to him."
"Something urgent?" The young man was taken aback for a moment. He sized Chen Baimei up. Though her clothes were tattered, her face travel-worn and sickly pale, her eyes held a sharp, restrained glint. She was clearly no ordinary person.
"Fine. What’s your name?"
"Just tell him my name is Chen Baimei."
Wu Liangchen arrived much faster than Chen Baimei had expected. He was there before she had even finished her cup of tea.
Upon seeing her, Wu Liangchen raised an eyebrow slightly and asked, "What happened?"
Chen Baimei gave a bitter smile. "When the news that you had become a Grandmaster reached him, Huang Longhai knew it was over. He immediately prepared to abandon his mountain and flee. He made meticulous preparations, planning to escape and hide in the East Sea nation."
"Naturally, I disagreed. But I never expected that Huang Longhai would discover the secret between us from some subtle clues. He imprisoned me, intending to use me as a bargaining chip."
"Later, while he was relocating, I found an opportunity and finally escaped. But Huang Longhai inflicted internal injuries on me, and with no other choice, I had to slowly make my way to the Huangpu Guard."
As she spoke, a bone-deep hatred appeared on Chen Baimei’s face. It was clear her enmity for Huang Longhai had reached its peak.
Wu Liangchen’s interest was piqued. "You’re saying this Huang Longhai went to the East Sea nation?"
"That’s right. He’d been colluding with people from the East Sea nation for a while. Now that things have turned against him, and knowing the enmity between you two could never be resolved, he immediately fled to the East Sea nation for refuge."
Wu Liangchen smiled. "What a coincidence. I was just planning a trip to the East Sea nation myself. How about it? Want to come along?"
Chen Baimei’s eyes lit up, and she nodded emphatically. "Of course."
Someone quickly led Chen Baimei away to rest and nurse her injuries.
To be honest, Wu Liangchen didn’t really care much about Huang Longhai anymore.
If Chen Baimei hadn’t reminded him, he would have almost forgotten the man existed.
But since the man had the bad luck to walk right into his line of fire, Wu Liangchen certainly didn’t mind taking care of him while he was in the East Sea nation.
It would be a way to tie up loose ends, bringing that old grudge to a definitive close.
As for Chen Baimei, her strength was now insignificant to the current Wu Liangchen.
But the woman was so tenacious. She had managed to drag herself all the way to the Huangpu Guard on foot just to seek refuge with him.
That spoke volumes of her loyalty, so Wu Liangchen decided to give her a chance.
With this in mind, Wu Liangchen turned. Instead of heading back to Jufu Pavilion, he leaped onto a nearby roof. A few more bounds brought him before a small building.
"Master Jingxin, since you’ve returned, why are you hiding here instead of showing yourself?" Wu Liangchen said coolly to the shadows behind the roof ridge.
