Chapter 337: Chapter 258: Bombarding the Flagship, the Ship Overturns
"Damn it! That brat ran off to the flagship to enjoy some banquet, and left us guys here on duty. What a piece of shit!" someone shouted angrily.
"Alright, that’s enough. What can you do? He’s the captain’s nephew," someone nearby advised.
"So what if he’s the nephew? The first mate is my cousin!" the first speaker said indignantly.
Hearing this, Wu Liangchen’s interest was piqued. ’It sounds like someone went to a banquet, which is why the ones left behind are complaining.’
Just then, Ichida Keizai turned his head and whispered in a slightly excited tone, "No wonder the ship is so quiet today. It turns out the captain, first mate, and the others all went to the flagship for that prince’s banquet. This is a great opportunity."
Wu Liangchen found this almost unbelievable. "Are you saying this giant ship has no one in command right now?"
"More or less. At most, a few second mates were left behind to maintain the ship’s basic operations," Ichida Keizai said, looking as though this was completely normal.
This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. During the voyage, that prince, who was extremely fond of hosting banquets, had thrown parties more than once.
Whenever this happened, the captain would temporarily leave his post, head to the main ship, and come back dead drunk.
Since Ichida Keizai often worked the night shift on deck, he had naturally seen this sort of thing more than once and had long since gotten used to it.
Seemingly noticing Wu Liangchen’s shock and speechlessness, Ichida Keizai gave a bitter smile. "Honestly, no one in the entire fleet is taking this campaign seriously. They think that as soon as the giant cannons fire, the Huangpu Guard will just obediently surrender. So everyone’s living in a drunken stupor."
A cold glint appeared in Wu Liangchen’s eyes. He then nodded. "Let’s continue."
Since the captain and first mate weren’t on board, what came next would be much easier.
Ichida Keizai took the lead, entering the corridor and walking quickly to the end.
Here, there was a large door the exact same color as the wall. If it were shut tight, it would be difficult to spot at first glance.
But right now, the door was ajar, and the light from inside was faintly visible.
The voices from a moment ago were also coming from inside.
Ichida Keizai glanced back at Wu Liangchen.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Wu Liangchen strode forward, pushed the door open, and walked right in.
Sure enough, the room was a large hall. The floor was covered with countless, densely packed cannonballs.
In the middle, a few men were sitting around, drinking.
When they heard the door open, the men, their eyes already hazy with drink, all turned to look. Every one of them froze.
"Idiot! Who the hell are you? How dare you trespass here?" one of them roared.
Wu Liangchen didn’t even spare him a glance, walking straight toward another room in the corner of the hall.
Inside that room was the fire control room, where the ammunition was loaded.
Only then did the men on duty finally react. Cursing angrily, they got up and lunged at Wu Liangchen.
But in the next instant, the head of the man charging at the front, the one who had been cursing the loudest, suddenly flew into the air.
It happened so fast that his body continued running forward a few more steps, uncontrolled, before it finally staggered and collapsed.
This bloody scene immediately stunned the other men into silence.
They stared blankly at the cold-faced man, at a complete loss. Suddenly, one of them seemed to remember something and pointed at Wu Liangchen, yelling.
"You... You’re Wu Liangchen!"
Those assigned to guard the ammunition depot were, naturally, all scions of noble families, so they had all seen portraits of Wu Liangchen.
The name Wu Liangchen seemed to have some kind of Magic Power, instantly causing their expressions to stiffen. Some of them even began to tremble uncontrollably.
They were remembering all the rumors about him.
Rumor had it that this young man, who had risen from the streets, was bloodthirsty by nature. Without exception, anyone who crossed him left this world.
And now, he had suddenly appeared in a vital area of the giant ship. He obviously wasn’t here for a sightseeing tour.
Wu Liangchen hadn’t realized his reputation in the East Sea nation was so great. He just swept his gaze over the men and spoke.
"You have two choices. First, do as I say, and I might spare your lives when this is over. Second, you can end up just like him, right now."
Wu Liangchen pointed a finger at the corpse on the floor, and the men’s faces instantly paled.
One of them said with a quavering voice, "Master... Master Wu, what is it you want us to do?"
"Simple. You’ll do your usual jobs: load the ammunition, and then fire on my command," Wu Liangchen said coolly.
Hearing this, the men might not have realized the implications, but Ichida Keizai, who was standing behind them, sucked in a sharp breath.
He had guessed what Wu Liangchen was planning to do.
But for some reason, he didn’t feel much fear. Instead, he felt a faint thrill of excitement.
Just then, Wu Liangchen looked at him. "You, come over here and direct their work."
"Yes, sir!" Ichida Keizai responded immediately and hurried over.
Upon seeing him, the men were dumbfounded.
They all recognized him—the famous "country bumpkin" of the navy.
’When did this guy get involved with Wu Liangchen?’
The men couldn’t figure it out for the life of them, but this was no time to dwell on it. At Wu Liangchen’s command and under Ichida Keizai’s strict supervision, they began to load the ammunition.
The work was arduous and tedious, but they had all undergone rigorous training, so they were surprisingly fast.
