Chapter 312: Chapter 246: Bright Moon in the Sky, Killing Like Snow (2)

A chubby man nearby laughed. "To be honest, Wei-san, if you hadn’t acted, I would have. Our mission here is basically complete, and we’ll be withdrawing soon. Under the circumstances, that fellow He Chang’an is no longer of any use. We can’t let him live."

Wei Heng nodded. "Kawada-kun, Abe-kun, I think the most urgent matter is to remind His Majesty the Monarch to take Wu Liangchen seriously. This man is simply terrifying. He Chang’an went so far as to risk his life to save Xu Kai just to get close to him, and he still couldn’t fool him."

Hearing this, both Kawada Minyu and Abe Guanyi nodded grimly.

"Rest assured, Wei-san," Kawada Minyu said. "We sent a message several days ago detailing the entire incident. We placed special emphasis on how terrifying Wu Liangchen is. I’m certain the Monarch will take this seriously after receiving the letter."

The words had barely left his lips when a soft chuckle came from outside the window.

"Who?"

"Who’s there?!"

The three men in the room were horrified.

’There are numerous hidden Martial Artists out there providing security, but this person managed to sneak up to the window without a sound. What kind of incredible skill would that take?’

"No need to wonder. I’ve already killed that bunch you sent out to stand guard."

As soon as the voice fell, Kawada Minyu kicked over the oil lamp on the table, plunging the room into darkness, and bolted toward the back wall.

At the same time, Abe Guanyi leaped up, aiming for the roof.

As for Wei Heng, his reaction seemed half a beat too slow.

Only after Kawada Minyu had smashed through the back wall and Abe Guanyi had burst through the roof did he finally dash for the front door at top speed.

But just as he reached the door, before he could even push it open, a flash of a blade swept past. He felt a cold sensation in his left arm. Looking down, he saw that his forearm had been cleanly severed below the elbow.

He froze for a moment, then let out a bloodcurdling scream.

As he screamed, Kawada Minyu and Abe Guanyi, who had already fled, stumbled back into the room. Without exception, both were wounded.

Abe Guanyi was the more severely injured of the two. A blade had nearly sliced his neck open, leaving a massive gash from which blood gushed relentlessly. The sight was horrifying.

Clutching their wounds, the three men stared in panic at Wu Liangchen, who was slowly walking in from outside.

"I’ll give you the time it takes for half an incense stick to burn. Whoever provides the most valuable intelligence gets to leave," Wu Liangchen said, cutting straight to the chase without any wasted words.

The three men exchanged glances, but surprisingly, all remained silent.

Seeing this, Wu Liangchen smiled faintly. "Very good. It seems you Warriors from the East Sea have some backbone after all. In that case, I’ll grant your wish and send you on your way."

"Wait—" Abe Guanyi, the most heavily wounded, cried out. He had just started to speak when another flash of a blade sliced his head from his shoulders.

The corpse tumbled to the ground.

Kawada Minyu and Wei Heng watched, their eyelids twitching uncontrollably.

But Wu Liangchen was completely unfazed. He smiled faintly. "See? I just gave you a chance, but you didn’t know how to cherish it. You only feel regret once I’ve raised my blade. A pity it’s too late by then."

"Now then, which of you two should I start with?" Wu Liangchen mused, looking troubled as his gaze wandered between their faces.

A bone-deep chill spread through the two men.

It wasn’t as if they had never considered that they might one day be killed.

After all, as high-ranking Warriors of the East Sea nation, they had enjoyed exceptional treatment since childhood.

When they turned ten, their masters had even provided them with live humans as targets for their blades, all to temper their courage.

Therefore, they believed that since they were so accustomed to blood and death, when their own time came, they would be able to face it unflinchingly, perhaps even with a laugh and a jest, full of heroic valor.

But now that death was truly upon them, they discovered it wasn’t so simple.

It turned out that killing and being killed were two entirely different concepts.

When they were the killers, their hearts could be as still as water. But when they became the prey, all their romanticized fantasies about death shattered.

And so, the two of them knelt far faster than Wu Liangchen could have imagined.

"Lord Wu, I know everything you want to know! As long as you don’t kill me, I’ll tell you everything!" Kawada Minyu said.

"I know more! And I can tell you something important right now: The East Sea nation has decided to launch a surprise attack on the Huangpu Guard before the Great Yan Calendar’s New Year!" Wei Heng confessed even faster, starting with a massive bombshell.

As expected, upon hearing this, a frigid killing intent flashed in Wu Liangchen’s eyes. Though it vanished in an instant, its immense pressure terrified the two men.

"Be specific. The more details, the better," Wu Liangchen said coldly.

Wei Heng breathed a silent sigh of relief, knowing his life was safe for now. He then poured out everything he knew, holding nothing back.

Wu Liangchen listened quietly. His expression seemed normal, but the light in his eyes grew colder and colder.

... ...

「Anxiang Pavilion.」

Blood began to gush from He Chang’an’s mouth and nose, terrifying him. He scrambled and crawled to Jiang Minghai’s feet, kowtowing frantically.

"Please, save me! I’ve already told you everything I know! Please, I don’t want to die!"

Jiang Minghai sat in his chair, looking down at the pathetic wretch who was kowtowing and spitting blood. He couldn’t help but sigh.

"Disasters from heaven can be forgiven, but you can’t escape the consequences of your own actions. You can only blame your own greed for walking down this path of no return."

"I know I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! Save me, I don’t want to die!" He Chang’an trembled with fear.

When Jiang Minghai had been interrogating him earlier, he had been skeptical, refusing to believe he was truly poisoned.

But now, the fire-like sensation in his organs and the blood gushing from his orifices told him in no uncertain terms that he was, indeed, poisoned.

How could He Chang’an accept this?

He pinned his last hope on Jiang Minghai.

But Jiang Minghai was a veteran of the martial world who had seen it all in his long life; naturally, he wouldn’t be moved by such a cheap trick.

His only thought was how people could truly be blinded by a moment’s desire, becoming utterly reckless.

They only felt regret when retribution was at hand, but by then, it was usually too late.

Just then, Wu Liangchen returned.

Upon seeing him, He Chang’an was like a drowning man about to take his last breath who had just spotted a life-saving straw. He lunged forward frantically.

"Master Wu, spare—"

THWACK!

A single pebble shot through his head. Its remaining force even pierced the hard floorboards, leaving a deep hole.

Seeing this, Jiang Minghai immediately sensed that something was wrong. Wu Liangchen’s state was clearly off.

He Chang’an deserved to die, yes, but he was already suffering from a fatal poison. Why would Wu Liangchen bother to finish him off?

This was clearly the action of someone with something on his mind, someone who didn’t want to waste even a single moment.

Before he could ask, Wu Liangchen spoke. "Elder Jiang, the matter in the Imperial Capital is settled. I’ve eliminated that group from the East Sea. I’ll leave the cleanup to you. I must return to the Huangpu Guard at once!"

Jiang Minghai was taken aback for a moment, then said, "Has the East Sea nation launched an attack on the Huangpu Guard?"

Wu Liangchen wasn’t surprised. It wasn’t a difficult thing to guess. He nodded.

"Yes!"

Jiang Minghai’s expression turned grave. "Do you need my help?"

"No need," Wu Liangchen refused.

Jiang Minghai wasn’t surprised.

It would have been stranger if Wu Liangchen hadn’t refused.

He just nodded. "Alright. Be careful on your journey. If you encounter large groups with powerful firearms, do not engage them head-on. The priority is to preserve yourself first and then plan your next move."

Wu Liangchen smiled. "Don’t worry, Elder Jiang. I know my limits."

"Good. Until we meet again!"

"Until we meet again!"

The two cupped their fists in farewell. The next instant, Wu Liangchen leaped out the window and vanished into the distant horizon at incredible speed.

Jiang Minghai watched for a moment, then sighed softly. ’What a young hero. If I were twenty years younger, I’d drop everything and join him to face the challenges at the Huangpu Guard!’
