Chapter 295: Chapter 238: Bizarre Poisoning, Fine Firearms

Wu Liangchen stared impassively at Yan Jun, whose body was half-blown apart, head caved in, and features utterly destroyed. He kicked the corpse aside and continued digging.

Soon, the bodies of the dignitaries were uncovered.

But they had lost all their former imposing might. Blown to pieces, they were now nothing more than cold, lifeless corpses.

Judging by Xu Kai’s rank, he should have been in the outermost layer.

So Wu Liangchen sifted through the splintered wood and broken bricks, gradually expanding his search outward for Xu Kai’s body.

This wasn’t just because he was Jiang Minghai’s son-in-law. After spending so much time together, a friendship had formed between them. He couldn’t just let him be left exposed to the elements.

But just as he overturned a wooden plank, he suddenly heard a faint cry for help.

The sound was so soft that an ordinary person might have missed it entirely, but Wu Liangchen heard it with perfect clarity.

"Master Wu, save me!"

It was Xu Kai’s voice!

Wu Liangchen was somewhat surprised.

’This guy is one lucky bastard,’ he thought. ’How did he survive such a massive explosion?’

But despite his surprise, Wu Liangchen’s movements were anything but slow. He immediately followed the sound and began clearing away the thick layer of rubble on top.

Sure enough.

Beneath, a collapsed pillar had formed an angled space. It wasn’t large, but it was enough to shelter one person.

Xu Kai was curled up inside, his face covered in blood. His left arm was bent at a bizarre angle, clearly broken, and his body was covered in wounds from the blast.

Even so, when he saw Wu Liangchen, he was overcome with emotion.

"Mas... Master Wu, I knew you would come for me."

Seeing this, Wu Liangchen couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

He took a quick look and saw that although Xu Kai was covered in blood, his speech was logical and his tone was clear, which proved he had no internal injuries.

This meant his life wasn’t in danger. Wu Liangchen smiled. "You’re one lucky bastard!"

As he spoke, he reached out to pull Xu Kai up, but Xu Kai hurriedly said, "Master Wu, don’t worry about me yet! There’s someone else next to me who’s still alive. Please, lend a hand and get him out first."

Wu Liangchen was surprised. "Oh? Someone else survived?"

"Yes, you’ve met him—it’s He Chang’an!"

This surprised Wu Liangchen even more. "Aren’t you and this He Chang’an always at each other’s throats? What’s with the sudden change of heart, asking me to save him first?"

An awkward expression appeared on Xu Kai’s face, which was a mess of dust and caked blood. He lowered his voice. "Because if he hadn’t dragged me over here to take cover, I’d probably be dead already."

To be honest, it wasn’t just Wu Liangchen who was surprised. Even Xu Kai himself found it incredible as he thought back on it.

He and He Chang’an were like fire and water, arguing every time they met. Yet, when disaster struck, it was He Chang’an who had saved him.

Now, his heart was filled with guilt, and he felt he had been far too petty before.

Following Xu Kai’s directions, Wu Liangchen cleared away the debris and, sure enough, found another space with a person curled up inside.

This man seemed to be in better shape than Xu Kai. Though his head was also bleeding, his limbs weren’t broken. For some reason, however, he was unconscious and couldn’t be woken.

Wu Liangchen lifted him out, laid him on a flat patch of ground, and examined him closely.

"Master Wu, is he okay?" Xu Kai, now also rescued, shuffled closer, trembling as he asked cautiously.

A peculiar, almost imperceptible glint flashed in Wu Liangchen’s eyes. He shook his head. "He doesn’t seem to be in any serious danger. He probably hit his head, which is why he’s unconscious."

"Ah! Is it serious?" Xu Kai grew nervous.

"That depends on him. He might wake up on his own in a bit, or he might never wake up at all. No one can say for sure," Wu Liangchen said flatly.

Just as they were speaking, the sounds of fighting in the distance ceased. A moment later, Jiang Minghai, covered in blood, arrived before Jiaotai Hall.

Xu Kai jumped in fright, for Jiang Minghai’s appearance was absolutely murderous.

"Hmm? You’re alright?" Seeing his son-in-law standing there—disheveled and covered in grime, but otherwise intact—Jiang Minghai couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"To answer Father-in-law, your son-in-law is fine!" Xu Kai quickly replied, still trembling.

"And what’s this about?" Jiang Minghai asked, pointing to He Chang’an lying on the ground.

Xu Kai then recounted what had happened, making sure to emphasize how He Chang’an had saved him at the critical moment.

After listening, Jiang Minghai walked over to Wu Liangchen and frowned. "It doesn’t look like he has any internal injuries. Why is he unconscious?"

Wu Liangchen didn’t answer. Instead, he glanced at him and smiled. "Senior, is everything taken care of?"

"It’s handled. Dammit, those bastards were a real pain in the ass. It’s a good thing I’m more experienced, or I might have been taken down with them. Even so, I couldn’t kill them all. Most of them got away!" Jiang Minghai said resentfully.

"Oh? They escaped?"

"That’s right. Those little bastards know the roads better than an old Kyoto hand like me. The moment things went south, they fled. But I didn’t come away empty-handed. At least they dropped most of their weapons," Jiang Minghai said, handing a firearm to Wu Liangchen.

Wu Liangchen took it and was startled.

The firearm’s internal structure and external form were remarkably similar to the guns from his previous life.

Although some parts were still a bit too crude, the basic design was already there.

’So this is the ultimate weapon brought over by the Folangji merchants?’

’And what kind of place could produce such a firearm?’

Wu Liangchen couldn’t help but recall Miyagi Yoshiaki’s dying words, and his expression turned grim.

If this was the secret weapon wielded by the East Sea, then the situation was indeed grim.

At the very least, Wu Liangchen couldn’t imagine how the extremely weakened Great Yan could possibly resist an attack from a firearm that was practically from another era.

Never mind ordinary people—even Martial Artists would have to surrender meekly when faced with a squad of hundreds or thousands of these firearms, unless they were Minor Fourth Realm or Fourth Realm Grandmasters.

Jiang Minghai had clearly realized this as well, and he said worriedly, "I always knew the East Sea harbored ill intentions, but I never thought they could get their hands on something like this. Great Yan is in grave danger now."

Wu Liangchen said nothing, merely turning the firearm over and over in his hands, hoping to find some clues.

’If I were the Monarch of the East Sea,’ he thought, ’and I already possessed such a powerful weapon, I wouldn’t need to go through the trouble of setting up such an elaborate trap. I’d just invade directly.’

’Therefore, this thing must have its limitations.’

’Either the quantity is insufficient, or the quality is too poor. Otherwise, their actions don’t make sense.’

While Wu Liangchen was studying the firearm, another figure landed nearby. It was Yan Hao, who walked dazedly to Dong Zhenlei’s body, bent down, and stared at it for a long time.

Seeing this, Jiang Minghai frowned and took a discreet step forward, shielding Xu Kai behind him.

Just then, Yan Hao slowly raised his head. He completely ignored the wary Jiang Minghai and fixed his gaze on Wu Liangchen.

"Wu Liangchen, I never thought you’d be the one to save me in the end," Yan Hao said flatly.

Wu Liangchen didn’t look up. Still examining the firearm, he said, "If you’re here to thank me, you can forget it. I only saved you because I don’t like people from the East Sea."

Yan Hao smiled. As he did, bloody cracks appeared on his chapped lips. He then said in a hoarse voice, "Come with me to the Martial God Temple. There’s something I need to tell you."

With that, he bent down, picked up Dong Zhenlei’s body, and staggered away as he leaped into the distance.

"Xiaowu, you’d better not go. That Yan Hao is no good!" Jiang Minghai immediately advised.

But Wu Liangchen just smiled. "Don’t worry. Yan Hao was no match for me even at his peak, let alone now."

"So... I’m rather curious to see what he wants to tell me!"
