Chapter 288: Chapter 235: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, East Sea Ancient Saber
"Oh, your father wants to see me?" Wu Liangchen’s eyes snapped open as he asked meaningfully.
"Yes. My father has prepared a simple meal and some wine, and is waiting for you at our home," Jiang Feng said.
Wu Liangchen felt a flicker of interest.
Wu Liangchen had always been a bit curious about Jiang Feng’s father—Xu Kai’s father-in-law, Elder Jiang.
From what little he’d gathered from the words of both Jiang Feng and Xu Kai, this Elder Jiang was clearly no ordinary man.
Though Jiang Feng’s cultivation was above the Second Realm but had yet to reach the Third, his perspective and experience were far beyond that of any ordinary Martial Artist.
In many ways, Wu Liangchen could see the shadow of a top-tier Martial Artist influencing him.
However, Elder Jiang had always remained behind the scenes, never once making an appearance, so naturally, Wu Liangchen had never sought him out.
He hadn’t expected the man to suddenly extend an invitation today. The implications were certainly worth pondering.
Wu Liangchen didn’t refuse, however. He simply nodded and said, "Good!"
Seeing Wu Liangchen nod, Jiang Feng couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
On the way over, he had been worried Wu Liangchen might refuse.
After all, the young Grandmaster’s temperament was notoriously unpredictable, and he hadn’t been sure he could actually persuade such a powerhouse to come.
Yet when his father had given him the instruction, he had been utterly confident, as if success was a foregone conclusion.
And past experience had taught Jiang Feng that if his father was certain about something, he would never fail.
Sure enough.
This time was no exception.
Secretly admiring his father’s foresight, Jiang Feng said, "Excellent. I’ll take you there now."
When Martial Artists traveled, especially one of Wu Liangchen’s caliber, they naturally wouldn’t ride horses or take carriages like common folk.
That was far too slow.
Even Jiang Feng was accustomed to using Qinggong for travel.
Thus, even though the Jiang and Xu family residences were not close—separated by three entire city blocks—
at their pace, Wu Liangchen and Jiang Feng arrived in less than the time it takes for half an incense stick to burn.
And that was only because Wu Liangchen occasionally had to stop and wait for him.
Otherwise, they would have been even faster.
Just as they landed on the rooftop of the Jiang family’s estate, an aged yet powerful voice called out.
"Younger Brother Wu, please come in! I have been awaiting your arrival for some time!"
Wu Liangchen was startled.
He hadn’t sensed a thing. In fact, even as the voice rang out, he still couldn’t detect a presence in the room below.
That alone proved that this Jiang Minghai was no ordinary Martial Artist.
He landed lightly and stepped into the room.
The room was as warm as a spring day. In the center sat a small table laden with several home-cooked dishes still giving off wisps of steam, alongside a pot of warmed wine.
Jiang Minghai was seated at the table. He smiled faintly as Wu Liangchen entered and gestured to the seat opposite him.
"Please, sit!"
Wu Liangchen didn’t stand on ceremony. He walked straight to the table and sat down.
"I cooked these simple dishes myself. I’m not sure if they’re to your taste, but I hope you’ll enjoy them," Jiang Minghai said with a pleasant smile.
Wu Liangchen ignored the food on the table. His gaze remained fixed on Jiang Minghai, and only after a long moment did he speak.
"I’ve always heard that the Imperial Capital is full of crouching tigers and hidden dragons. I never quite believed it, but today I’ve learned those rumors are true."
With that, he gave a slight bow with his hands clasped. "This junior, Wu Liangchen, greets you, Elder Jiang."
Jiang Minghai let out a hearty laugh. "Younger Brother Wu, you’re too kind. I’m just a washed-up old man who runs a security escort service. How could I possibly compare myself to a young prodigy like yourself?"
With that, he raised his cup. "Come, let’s drink!"
Wu Liangchen followed suit, raising his own cup and downing it in one go.
The wine was incredibly potent, and having been served warm, it felt like a line of fire tracing a path from his throat down to his stomach.
But once it settled in his stomach, a pleasant warmth spread through him. A hot current then flowed into and merged with his Qi and Blood, bringing with it an indescribable sense of comfort.
"This wine..." Wu Liangchen said, surprised.
Jiang Minghai explained proudly, "It’s a medicinal wine I brewed myself. The base is hundred-year-old ginseng, supplemented with all sorts of precious herbs. After brewing, it was aged in my cellar for ten years. Today is the first time it’s been brought out. What do you think? Packs a punch, doesn’t it!"
Wu Liangchen nodded. "It is indeed."
One must understand that since his ascension to the Grandmaster realm, the richness of Wu Liangchen’s Qi and Blood had become something an ordinary person couldn’t even fathom.
Yet a single mouthful of this wine was enough to increase his Qi and Blood by a sliver, a testament to its incredible potency.
"I have a few more jars stored away. Take them with you when you leave," Jiang Minghai said with a wide smile.
Wu Liangchen didn’t have much of a reaction, but Jiang Feng, who was standing respectfully to the side, had only one thought upon hearing this.
His father was really going all out today.
Those few jars of medicinal wine were his father’s treasures. Normally, his father wouldn’t even let him so much as look at them for too long, let alone drink any. Yet today, he was offering to give several jars to Wu Liangchen without a second thought.
Wu Liangchen just smiled, set down his cup, and said coolly, "Elder Jiang, I imagine your sudden invitation wasn’t for something as simple as gifting me a few jars of wine."
"It’s nothing major. I just heard you got into a fight with someone from the Martial God Temple?"
As he spoke, Jiang Minghai casually shelled a peanut, tossed the kernel into his mouth, and began to chew slowly.
Wu Liangchen nodded. "I did."
"Who was it?"
"Dong Zhenlei!"
Jiang Minghai smiled. "I figured it was him."
"You know him, Elder Jiang?" Wu Liangchen asked.
"Oh, I know him. I know him all too well. Not only do I know him, we’ve even crossed swords a few times," Jiang Minghai said casually.
If any outsider had been present, they would have been utterly shocked by Jiang Minghai’s words.
