Grand Return System
Chapter 485: Why We Draw the Sword!!! [Part 2]
Why We Draw the Sword!!! [Part 2]
Rias froze.
Leon continued.
"If one day you can look at death without feeling anything at all, that may not be strength."
His voice softened.
"Remember why you draw your sword."
Rias’s eyes trembled.
Leon raised his gaze toward the distant sky.
"You fight to protect the people and things you cherish."
He looked back at her.
"Not because you enjoy taking lives."
For several breaths, Rias said nothing.
Then she slowly nodded.
"I understand."
Her voice was still quiet.
But this time, it was steadier.
Leon did not say anything else.
He simply stood beside her.
The two watched the battlefield together.
The massacre continued for a while longer.
Yet Rias no longer looked away.
She still felt uncomfortable.
She still hated seeing so many people die.
But she understood the cruel reality behind it.
In this world, sometimes survival itself demanded choices that the heart desperately wished it could avoid.
Leon finally spoke again.
"Do you understand?"
Rias took a slow breath.
She looked toward the battlefield one last time.
Then she nodded.
"Yes, Teacher."
Her answer was soft.
But firm.
Leon said nothing more.
The wind swept across the ruined battlefield.
His midnight-black robes fluttered quietly, the thin amethyst embroidery catching the faint light.
Beside him, Rias stood a little straighter than before.
She had not become ruthless.
Not yet.
Perhaps she never would.
But today, she had taken her first step toward understanding the world Leon had been protecting her from.
And somewhere deep within her heart, she finally understood one simple truth.
Compassion was precious.
But compassion without strength could become a burden.
Leon sighed and looked up at the sky.
When Selena first entered the sect, he had finally fulfilled his promise to her.
Leon slowly rose up and took out a nest of bird eggs from the bird nest on the tree.
The nest had been tucked between several thick branches, hidden beneath layers of green leaves. The tiny eggs inside were still warm.
Leon held the nest in one hand.
Then, without the slightest hesitation, he shook it hard.
Once.
Twice.
Again.
The fragile eggs rolled against one another.
The yolks scattered inside their shells.
He looked completely serious.
Then he casually handed the nest to Rias.
"Look, this is pulling out the roots."
The corner of Rias’s mouth twitched.
She stared at Leon.
For several seconds, she simply stood there in silence.
Her big red eyes widened slightly.
She looked down at the ruined eggs.
Then she looked back at him.
She was speechless.
This was insane.
Even the eggs couldn’t be let off?
For one strange moment, Rias seriously wondered whether Leon would go as far as taking the blanket out of the nest and hanging it up to dry.
Her expression became complicated.
"Teacher..."
She hesitated.
Leon raised an eyebrow.
Rias looked at the nest again.
Then at him.
"Are you really serious?"
There was a faint disbelief in her voice.
Leon’s lips twitched.
He had expected this reaction.
The battlefield behind them was still filled with the sounds of destruction.
Weapons clashed.
Mana surged.
Occasional cries echoed through the ruins of the Sky Breaker Academy.
Yet somehow, this little nest of broken eggs had become the strangest sight Rias had witnessed all day.
Leon smiled in his heart.
He deliberately slowed his movements.
"Alright! Don’t think too much."
His voice became gentler.
"From the moment you stepped onto the path of immortality, your life has changed."
He looked at her.
His purple eyes were calm.
There was no mockery in them now.
"You should experience some of these things and slowly get used to them."
Rias lowered her gaze.
The red strands of her hair slipped across her cheek as the wind passed.
She did not answer immediately.
The words were simple.
But she understood what Leon was really trying to tell her.
This world was no longer the peaceful world she had once known.
Once someone stepped onto the path of cultivation, many things could no longer be viewed through ordinary eyes.
Life and death.
Friendship and hatred.
Mercy and revenge.
Everything could become tangled together.
Rias slowly tightened her fingers around the edge of her sleeve.
She still did not like it.
She probably never would.
But perhaps that was precisely why Leon was telling her to experience it instead of hiding from it.
"Stroking her beautiful red hair, Leon turned around and looked at the massacre in front of him."
The battlefield stretched across the Academy Premises.
Smoke drifted between the ruined buildings.
Broken weapons were scattered across the ground.
Blood stained the stone beneath their feet.
The once-majestic Sky Breaker Academy had lost its former glory.
The destruction was everywhere.
And the battle was still continuing.
Leon stood silently.
His long, shoulder-length black hair moved gently behind him.
His midnight-black robes fluttered in the cold wind, the thin amethyst embroideries along the fabric catching the faint light.
His expression was calm.
Almost too calm for a battlefield like this.
Behind him, several powerful auras suddenly approached.
A moment later, figures descended from the sky.
Mike and the others flew over and stopped beside Leon.
Their robes moved with the wind as they landed.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
The silence itself carried a strange weight.
They had all witnessed Leon’s previous sword strike.
That single strike had been enough to completely change the battle.
Even now, the memory of it remained vivid in their minds.
