Grand Return System
Chapter 435: The Choice of Cavir Walton
The Choice of Cavir Walton
And he did not like it.
Cavir Walton’s gaze moved slowly across the soldiers surrounding Leon.
One by one, he took them in.
Then his eyes shifted toward James.
Finally, they settled on the general.
For a moment, nobody moved.
The soldiers hesitated.
Even the surrounding noise seemed to fade.
An uneasy silence settled over the area.
James frowned.
The general’s expression also darkened slightly.
Cavir Walton stepped forward.
His footsteps were slow.
Firm.
There was no hesitation in them.
He had been the shopkeeper of the Whitelist Restaurant for many years.
Because of that, he understood Ashford City better than most people did.
He knew exactly how much influence the Grand General’s household held here.
It was not an influence that could be ignored.
Normally, Cavir Walton would never willingly stand against them.
There was too much at stake.
The Whitelist Restaurant had survived for years by knowing when to speak and, more importantly, when to remain silent.
But today was different.
Very different.
He had already made his decision.
There was no turning back now.
The moment Cavir Walton stepped forward, the general’s eyes fell on him.
For a brief moment, neither man spoke.
Then the general smiled.
It was not a friendly smile.
There was no warmth in it.
Only disdain.
He looked Cavir Walton up and down before speaking.
"Cavir Walton, do you still want to interfere in the matters of my Grand General Mansion?"
His voice was calm.
Almost casual.
But the threat underneath it was impossible to miss.
"Could it be that your Whitelist Restaurant doesn’t want to continue operating in Ashford City?"
The words fell quietly.
Yet they carried far more weight than a shout ever could.
The soldiers behind him remained motionless.
But the pressure they released became noticeably heavier.
It spread through the air like an invisible wall.
The message was simple.
Stay out of this.
Otherwise, the Grand General’s household would make sure the Whitelist Restaurant paid the price.
Cavir Walton’s expression changed.
Only slightly.
For an instant, his eyes narrowed.
His fingers, hidden beneath his sleeves, tightened.
The Grand General’s household truly was powerful.
There was no denying that.
Cavir Walton knew it better than anyone.
The Whitelist Restaurant had been able to remain in Ashford City for so many years because he understood how to deal with people like them.
He knew which doors to open.
He knew which doors to avoid.
And he knew exactly what could happen when someone openly challenged a force as powerful as the Grand General’s household.
For a brief moment, that knowledge weighed on him.
Then he remembered why he had stepped forward.
The hesitation vanished.
His fingers slowly relaxed.
His expression returned to normal.
And then—
he laughed.
"Haha... Ridiculous, ridiculous."
His laughter echoed through the street.
Several people looked at him in surprise.
The general’s smile disappeared.
Cavir Walton continued walking forward.
His footsteps were calm.
His eyes, however, had become sharp.
His Whitelist Restaurant had survived in Ashford City for years.
He had met countless powerful people.
He knew when to lower his head.
He knew when to compromise.
He also knew when there were some people whom even an entire dynasty could not afford to offend.
Today was precisely such a day.
If the person standing behind Leon had been an ordinary cultivator, Cavir Walton would never have interfered.
If it were merely a dispute between two powerful households, he could have closed his eyes and pretended not to see anything.
But Leon was different.
He had already witnessed enough.
He knew that the young man inside the Heaven-class private room was not someone whose background could be measured by ordinary standards.
A Paragon’s influence was not something a mere dynasty could casually compare with.
Cavir Walton understood one simple truth.
Sometimes, choosing who to offend was more important than choosing who to please.
The Grand General’s household was powerful.
The Drake Empire was powerful.
But there were always people standing above them.
And if he had to choose between currying favor with a dynasty and currying favor with a Paragon—
The answer was obvious.
It was better to curry favor with a Paragon than any dynasty.
One had to understand that the influence of a Paragon was not something that a mere dynasty could compare to.
Cavir Walton stopped a short distance away from the general.
The wind passed between them.
For a brief moment, neither side spoke.
The soldiers remained ready.
Selena stood behind Cavir Walton’s line of sight, her hand still resting on the Amethyst Mist Sword.
Leon remained silent.
His purple eyes carried a faint trace of amusement.
He had not expected Cavir Walton to step forward.
But he was not surprised either.
The situation had become considerably more interesting.
Cavir Walton slowly raised his head.
His gaze met the general’s.
There was no longer any hesitation in his eyes.
"General, do you know who you offended today?"
His voice was calm.
But every word carried weight.
Cavir Walton was not to be outdone. He slowly walked over, his expression hardening as the atmosphere around him became increasingly tense.
The entire street fell silent.
Even the soldiers seemed to sense that something had changed.
The general had arrived with an army.
James believed victory was already in his hands.
But Cavir Walton’s words had planted the first crack in that certainty.
And behind him, Leon stood quietly beneath the fading light, his midnight robes stirring in the wind, his purple eyes watching the scene unfold as though he were waiting to see just how far this confrontation would go.
