Got a Gallery in the Wild
Chapter 225
Elf (3)
The elven queen Elijah’s speech quickly spread throughout the world.
It had firmly established the elves’ identity, but more importantly, it had sounded like a declaration.
Alvenheim had already been pursuing expansionist policies little by little.
Now its queen had declared that the time had come to take another step forward and that Alvenheim would continue to advance.
In effect, she was announcing that they were ready to begin expanding their territory in earnest.
Title: Are They Seriously Going to War?
Listening to the queen’s speech, it sounds like she’s saying they’re ready for war.
└ Probably not. El Dorado would be difficult to attack because of Cain’s descent, and the same goes for the other countries.
└ I’m guessing they intend to expand into unexplored territory.
└ Alvenheim has unexplored territory?
└ A fucking ton of it. It’s literally a land flowing with milk and honey.
└ Besides, Alvenheim has had territory taken from right under its nose before.
└ Fun fact: Elves have the longest average lifespan of any race. They still remember what happened a hundred years ago perfectly clearly.
People began discussing Alvenheim’s current situation, whether it had suffered any wrongs, and countless other matters.
Alongside El Dorado, it quickly emerged as one of the world’s greatest issues.
Title: No Justification?
(A picture of a man smiling brightly)
Then just make one up~
└ Who’s that?
└ Alexander the Great, the Conqueror King.
└ He went around conquering whenever he felt like it, even without justification. He’s the man who founded the modern Messiah Empire.
└ Wouldn’t people criticize him for that?
└ They normally would, but the guy was so ridiculously capable that no one stopped him. Besides, he kept handing out new territories. Why would anyone stop him?
└ The fact that most of the territory he conquered was fertile farmland was also a major factor. The man said he would provide his people with farmland, lmaooo.
Title: There’s Something Weird About These Elves
There’s an elf I got into a fight with. He used to get seriously angry whenever I called him a knife-ear.
But not anymore. Now he just chuckles even when I insult him like that.
He said something about hearing the elven queen’s speech and acknowledging their shortcomings. I thought the bastard had gone insane.
Then he smiled and called me an ugly fucker who looked worse than an orc. Fuck.
└ I thought the queen had cast mass hypnosis magic on them, but I guess not.
└ Isn’t that scarier than blindly supporting her?
└ Judging by how the OP couldn’t argue back, maybe he really is uglier than an orc.
└ Fuck off.
Thanks to the Gallery, word of Alvenheim’s atmosphere spread in an instant.
Moreover, Alvenheim had recently adopted open-door policies, so the country now contained many foreigners.
Title: Compilation of the Elven Queen’s Speeches
(A video of the speech the elven queen gave when she ascended the throne)
(A video of one of the elven queen’s speeches)
(A video of one of the elven queen’s speeches)
She’s speaking Elvish, so I don’t know what she’s saying, but I can still tell that it’s impressive.
She doesn’t just stand there and speak quietly. She actively uses gestures. Her control over the pacing and intensity is especially insane.
Her face seriously looks like that of a young girl, so it’s amazing that she can project that much charisma.
└ Does she do nothing but give speeches all day? It’s amazing that her voice doesn’t crack.
└ How old is the elven queen now? I heard she’s really young.
└ She only recently turned thirty, I think. She’s very young.
└ Don’t even humans normally begin their political careers in their early to mid-forties at the earliest?
└ Yeah. Nobles tend to start a little earlier, but thirty is still incredibly young.
└ She’s genuinely gifted.
A single speech had focused the world’s attention on the elven queen.
Furthermore, Grylls—arguably the most popular named user on the Gallery—had left on an expedition.
The elven queen Elijah was the only topic worth discussing.
Then what was the elven queen herself doing under these circumstances?
"Hehe. I like this."
After finishing her speech, she was lounging around in the queen’s office.
One might wonder why she was not working, but she had already completed everything she could do for the moment.
All that remained was to wait for the upcoming demonstration of the "prototype."
Until then, she merely had to prepare for interference from the Senate and any other unforeseen circumstances.
’Soon, we’ll be able to plant Alvenheim’s trees throughout the entire world.’
Elijah closed her eyes and neatly folded both hands over her chest.
The way she grinned dreamily while lost in her imagination made her resemble a young girl lost in a pleasant dream.
Her youthful appearance only strengthened that impression.
The problem was that this young girl was the leader of a major world power.
A fairy tale becoming reality was certainly a wonderful thing, but the situation was quite different when an entire nation was involved.
[Where is the queen?!]
[P-please calm down, Elder! You cannot do this!]
While Elijah was lost in her fantasies, a commotion erupted outside.
She quietly opened her eyes and turned toward the source of the noise.
Bang!
Before long, the door to her office was flung open, and a group of elves entered.
As befitted elves, they were all beautiful and appeared remarkably young.
"Queen Elijah! Just what do you think you are doing?!"
The elf at the head of the group shouted angrily.
Despite his long hair, his sharply defined features made it immediately apparent that he was a man.
"What do you mean? I’m afraid I don’t understand."
Elijah responded to his outburst with an unconcerned smile.
Rather than sounding sly, however, her voice came across as almost innocent.
"Why did you decide to do something like this without informing us?!"
"Decide? Ah! Are you talking about my speech?"
"Do not pretend ignorance. We know that you have been carrying out a project in secret."
"Ah."
Elijah nodded as though she had only just realized what he meant.
Even so, her clear, unblemished green eyes and the smile on her lips remained unchanged.
Even the furious man flinched at her expression, which seemed to contain a faint hint of madness.
"I was planning to unveil it as a surprise. It will be more effective that way."
"Effective?"
"Yes. It will show everyone that we elves also possess magnificent science—no, magic—no... technology!"
Elijah spread her arms wide as she cried out.
She looked as though she had become lost in a world of her own.
The problem was that this was not merely "a world of her own."
She had successfully brought her ideals into reality.
The policies that had revitalized Alvenheim had also been implemented despite countless objections.
Would anyone believe that all of them had originated from the queen’s fantasies and imagination?
They would probably call her insane.
But she had proven herself.
"From now on, Alvenheim will no longer be influenced by the world. We will influence the world. That is why I implemented our open-door policies."
"Do you truly desire war?"
Phil Lorien, an elder of the Senate, threatened her in a low voice.
The Senate was often dismissed as a collection of old fogies, but put another way, that meant they were conservative.
Whatever else happened, they had to be determined to prevent a war.
"What are you talking about? War? I don’t want a war."
"After everything you have done, you expect us to believe that?"
"Yes."
Her answer was utterly shameless.
It left Phil momentarily speechless.
However, while he suspected that she was preparing for war, there was no concrete evidence.
Her usual efforts to strengthen the military?
Those were closer to a natural consequence of the country’s rapid economic growth.
Even her campaign encouraging the planting of trees was not particularly problematic when examined by itself.
Above all, the greatest problem was her overwhelming public support.
"...Very well. When do you intend to unveil this project?"
In the end, Phil had no choice but to back down.
The elves’ support for her had surged following this latest speech, making it difficult to oppose her.
One wrong move would only worsen public opinion of the Senate.
"So the Senate is looking forward to the project as well!"
"..."
That aside, Phil dearly wished he could do something about this clear-eyed lunatic.
He was deeply concerned that she might eventually lead Alvenheim to ruin.
Phil inwardly clicked his tongue at Elijah’s brazen behavior. When it came to politics, she honestly possessed extraordinary talent.
A normal person who did something embarrassing would at least become self-conscious, but Elijah did not care what anyone thought.
She even possessed the ability to turn her ideas into reality, making her a troublesome opponent in more ways than one.
"I plan to unveil my project on a grand scale one week from now. I will formally invite the Senate as well."
"You have my thanks. But Your Majesty, there is one thing I would like you to understand."
Phil released a long sigh before looking Elijah directly in the eyes.
Elijah tilted her head as though wondering what he wished to say.
The gesture suited her girlish appearance, but to Phil, she looked like nothing more than a madwoman.
"Your Majesty’s achievements are certainly worthy of praise. I have no choice but to acknowledge that."
"Thank you."
"But if we compare them to a tree, you have merely pruned its branches. You have made it more beautiful."
Phil was old even by elven standards.
"Do not neglect the roots. Do not become so preoccupied with pruning the branches that you forget to water the tree."
"Isn’t that obvious? A tree without roots cannot survive."
"If you understand, I shall take my leave."
After offering that advice, seasoned by his many years of experience, Phil turned away.
When he did, his attendants followed him out.
Elijah was left alone in her office.
The room felt as though a storm had just swept through it.
"Hmm..."
Elijah stared at the door through which they had departed, then raised her head.
She was accessing the Gallery.
The moment she logged in, she created a post.
Title: I Wish All These Old Fogies Would Drop Dead
Let’sGrowTrees
I shouldn’t say something like that, should I? Hehe.
└ Did something happen?
└ Leave her alone. Elven old fogies are notoriously awful.
└ Three-hundred-year-old elven geezers seriously refuse to listen to reason.
└ Isn’t this the named user who’s always telling people to plant trees? So she really was an elf, lmaooo.
└ Didn’t the queen overcome the generational divide?
└ There’s nothing anyone can do about the differences caused by age.
She finally got everything off her chest.
Nobody knew who she was anyway, so what could possibly go wrong?
Elijah began browsing the Gallery with a cheerful grin.
’Come to think of it, they said the project’s weakness was the speed at which orders could be transmitted. To solve that...’
Let’sGrowTrees—the elven queen Elijah—immediately performed a search.
The person she searched for was none other than Wild Grylls.
He was the man who had reportedly suffered an unfortunate encounter after visiting the mandrake colony yesterday.
’Should I ask him for some orichalcum? I could give him another sapling while I’m at it.’
Orichalcum was an extremely rare resource that played an important role in the use of magic.
If she could purchase it in bulk, it would undoubtedly provide an enormous advantage.
’I’ll have to prepare thoroughly.’
Elijah closed the Gallery and began searching through her documents.
She was looking for something that might prove useful to Grylls.
If she offered him an item essential to his survival, he would surely be willing to trade.
’Ah, I can’t wait to start planting trees.’
While Alvenheim’s movements grew increasingly suspicious, most nations remained on high alert.
There was, however, one country that was relatively unconcerned.
Mephisto, the nation of demons.
Alvenheim lay directly across from El Dorado, yet the demons did not seem particularly bothered.
If war broke out, they would be perfectly fine with that as well. They were a race renowned for their love of battle, after all.
Of course, that was merely how things appeared on the surface. Mephisto’s upper echelons were closely monitoring Alvenheim’s movements.
The demons normally mocked the elves as a disorganized race of cowards, but even they could not ignore the current situation.
"I intend to dispatch spies to Alvenheim."
"Spies...?"
Asmode, the king of Mephisto, spoke.
Keirin’s eyes widened as she looked at him.
The act of sending spies was nothing particularly unusual in itself.
But their destination was Alvenheim, of all places. She could not help being surprised.
"Father, disguise magic is extremely difficult even for us demons."
"I know. Our appearance is particularly distinctive compared to the other races."
Demons looked far too different from the other races.
Their skin generally came in shades of blue or purple.
Then there were the horns protruding from their heads and their black sclera.
Their features were every bit as beautiful as those of the elves, but they were far too distinctive.
The greater the difference in appearance, the exponentially more difficult disguise magic became.
The level of magic itself was not high, but every detail had to be meticulously adjusted, like a sculptor carefully carving a statue one stroke at a time.
"However, I recently obtained this."
Asmode placed a piece of ore on the table. Keirin turned her gaze toward it.
The mineral was dark in color overall.
She immediately realized what it was.
"Is that...?"
"Orichalcum ore. With this, we should be able to maintain disguise magic more easily and for longer periods."
It was orichalcum, an ore renowned for its extreme rarity.
Keirin had also received some from Grylls.
Of course, she had told no one about it.
She had obtained it so that she could watch sports in high definition. There was no way she could ever admit that.
’How did Father obtain it? I haven’t heard any reports of an orichalcum vein being discovered.’
Keirin wondered how Asmode had acquired the orichalcum, but soon dismissed the question.
He surely had his own sources of information. He was the king, after all, so it was hardly incomprehensible.
"Keirin, select trustworthy individuals from among your subordinates and report back to me. Alvenheim’s movements are deeply troubling."
"But El Dorado lies directly to our north, does it not?"
"The problem is that I have no idea what the elven queen is thinking."
Thus, Keirin agreed to dispatch spies.
The plan was to be carried out in secret.
After concluding her meeting with Asmode, she returned to her room.
’If we had more orichalcum... we could send more spies.’
Asmode had also wanted to do so, but he had complained that they possessed far too little ore.
A single fist-sized piece of ore was required for every spy they dispatched.
Since they had no idea what Alvenheim intended to do, they needed much more.
’...Should I give Grylls more uniforms?’
The maneuvering behind the scenes had already begun.
