Chapter 399 - 398: Tranquility
Chapter 399: Chapter 398: Tranquility
The delivery room was filled with laughter and joy.
Yunluo had managed to give birth to a boy, and Yang Family repeatedly chanted Buddhist prayers, while the women were all delighted.
Mrs. Qiu helped the little boy clean up, wrapped him in the prepared swaddle, and handed him to Yang Family.
Yang Family held him close and scrutinized him, the little one’s skin wrinkled, hair jet black, and the small protruding lips were exactly like Du Yunluo’s.
She happily carried the child out.
Mu Lianxiao quickly approached, staring at the small creature with closed eyes.
He seemed on the verge of tears.
Yang Family gently patted the child, laughing as she spoke to him: "You are a father now."
Mu Lianxiao smiled, looking inward: "Where is Yunluo?"
He had not forgotten his wife despite having a son, and Yang Family was pleased, saying, "She’s exhausted and asleep. The blood inside is heavy; you better not go in now."
Mu Lianxiao nodded.
She had been in pain all day, cried out all day, how could she not be tired?
He couldn’t bear to wake Du Yunluo, so he looked at his son again, wanting to reach out and hold him, but didn’t know how.
Yang Family couldn’t help but laugh, handing the boy to Mu Lianxiao, carefully teaching him how to hold the child.
Mu Lianxiao learned seriously, the small, soft little creature in his arms made his heart melt infinitely.
Everyone said newborns hadn’t yet grown into their looks and were quite unattractive.
But in Mu Lianxiao’s eyes, his son was handsome no matter how he looked.
The boy pouted and suddenly burst into tears.
Mu Lianxiao was surprised, looking at Yang Family in bewilderment.
Yang Family took the child back and said, "He’s hungry; the wet nurses selected earlier are waiting up front, I will take him to the nursery."
Choosing a wet nurse for feeding, Mu Lianxiao couldn’t accompany, reluctantly watching his son leave, unable to see his wife, he rubbed his brow and turned to the study.
He needed to write to the Capital, to inform Madam Wu and Mrs. Zhou that he had a son, and the main family had an heir.
Du Yunluo awoke when night had fully settled in.
Perhaps overly exhausted, she hadn’t slept long, feeling severe pain throughout, lacking the strength to even kick her leg.
She glanced at her belly, the roundness was gone, the heaviness pressing on her vanished.
She opened her mouth to call out.
The sound was hoarse, even Du Yunluo was startled.
Jin Rui hurriedly came over, drew aside the curtains, and asked Du Yunluo with a smile, "Madam is awake? Do you want some water to soothe your throat?"
Du Yunluo nodded.
Jin Rui attended to Du Yunluo, giving her some brown sugar water, knowing her throat was uncomfortable, quickly saying, "Rest assured, Madam, everything is well with the little boy.
While you were asleep, the head Madam tried milk from three wet nurses, eventually selecting Lady Peng, the boy was fed and slept, not yet awake.
The Princely Heir wrote the letter to the Capital, Jin Lan just attended to his dinner.
I will go and summon Mrs. Hong now, please wait."
Mrs. Hong soon arrived, inquiring about Du Yunluo’s condition, knowing she was merely fatigued without any other discomfort, reassured.
"Winter confinement is not too difficult," Mrs. Hong said with a smile. "The little boy is asleep now, when he wakes, he’ll be brought to Madam to see."
Remembering the hurried glimpse of her son, Du Yunluo couldn’t help but smile.
There was a commotion outside, Jin Rui went to check, returned and said, "Mam, the Princely Heir wants Madam moved back to the main room."
Mrs. Hong’s brow twitched, Yang Family had gone back to the government office, who else could persuade Mu Lianxiao now.
She could only turn, looking at Du Yunluo with difficulty.
Du Yunluo asked, "What did the Princely Heir say?"
Jin Rui lowered her hand, respectfully saying, "The Princely Heir said once the boy has passed the traditional first-month ceremony, he will depart, and once he’s gone, the main room would be empty, no need for Madam to be cramped in this side room for confinement. After all, it’s about restoring health; the main room is more comfortable than here."
The logic was sound, but hadn’t Mu Lianxiao departed yet?
Mrs. Hong shook her head helplessly.
Du Yunluo realized it, smiling, said, "Invite the Princely Heir in, let me speak to him."
Mrs. Hong breathed a sigh of relief and went out with Jin Rui.
Mu Lianxiao quickly entered, sat by the bed, holding Du Yunluo’s cheeks, bent over asking, "Is it very painful? I heard you cry out as if your heart were breaking."
Du Yunluo pressed her lips and said, "It hurts very much, wished I could pinch you, but once I saw the boy, all the pain vanished."
The hoarse voice was no longer the usual gentle tone, Mu Lianxiao felt sorry for her, kissed her brow: "I’m here, pinch away if you want."
Du Yunluo softly snorted, she now had no strength to pinch him.
"I’ll carry you back to the main room."
Mu Lianxiao finished, wrapped the quilt tightly around Du Yunluo, preparing to lift her with the quilt.
Du Yunluo quickly stopped him: "If I go back, where will you sleep? You must leave in three days, let’s wait until you go."
"I want to be with you." Mu Lianxiao’s eyes darkened, showing hesitation and reluctance, "Want you to be with me."
Feeling a fire igniting in her heart, Du Yunluo raised her hand to embrace Mu Lianxiao’s back, looked up for his lips, gently rubbing against them.
Du Yunluo’s cherry lips were broken, not as soft as usual; Mu Lianxiao held them, carefully soothing and savoring them with his tongue.
Weak from childbirth, Du Yunluo promptly ran short of breath, face flushed, chest rising and falling.
Mu Lianxiao released her lips, lingered around her brow and eyes.
"Princely Heir, I’m hungry," Du Yunluo softly said.
Remembering she hadn’t eaten since noon and night, Mu Lianxiao let her go, asked Mrs. Hong to fetch food.
The kitchen had long prepared food according to the confinement meal plan.
Du Yunluo had some glutinous rice porridge and half a bowl of pork liver soup; faintly hearing a baby’s cries, she raised her eyes and asked Jin Rui.
Jin Rui hurriedly went out.
After a while, Lady Peng came in with the boy.
After saluting Du Yunluo and Mu Lianxiao, Lady Peng smiled and placed the child beside Du Yunluo, saying, "The boy just woke; fed some milk, now he doesn’t cry."
Du Yunluo turned to watch the boy, gently touched his lips with her finger.
The boy pouted, but didn’t open his eyes.
Du Yunluo found the child increasingly adorable, couldn’t help but smile with eyes curved.
Mu Lianxiao gazed at the big and small figure, his expression gradually relaxed, heart filled with peace and satisfaction.
A delicate wife and a young child, they were right beside him, making him want to protect, cherish, and pamper them.
Mu Lianxiao slowly exhaled, feeling completely at ease.
Du Yunluo gently stroked her son’s hair, said, "Only his lips resemble mine, everything else reflects you."
Mu Lianxiao chuckled silently, holding Du Yunluo’s hand, his fingertip gently caressing her palm.
With a son resembling him, perhaps having a daughter, like her, graceful and charming, she would finally be satisfied.
But recalling her labor pains, Mu Lianxiao hesitated, feeling reluctant.
The next baby, maybe wait a couple more years.
