Chapter 537
Generally, in such places, spatial fluctuations would be relatively intense, however, the space here was extremely stable.
"Are you sure you didn’t remember wrong? Are there any other towering peaks?" Adam asked with a frown.
"I was terrified out of my wits at the time, I only remember landing at the top of a mountain peak like this," Drax felt embarrassed, after all, he had not been of any help, and the only clue he could offer was vague at best.
"It’s fine, then we’ll search every single mountain peak," Adam shook his head, right now, they could only resort to brute force.
A glint intertwining guilt and resolve flashed in Drax’s eyes, he clenched his fists, voice firm, "Brother Adam, I am dragging you down, but please believe me, I will do my best to recall more details, I won’t let your efforts be in vain."
Adam gently patted Drax’s shoulder, "No need to blame yourself, since we are companions, we should support each other, who knows, perhaps these unknowns will allow us to uncover more secrets."
The two continued forward, Adam fully unleashed his perception, paying attention to changes in the environment while staying alert for hidden crises, meanwhile, Drax tried hard to recall every detail of the past, attempting to piece together useful information from fragmented memories.
As time passed, they climbed several seemingly different yet equally eerie peaks, but without exception, there were no traces whatsoever.
This was highly abnormal, wherever one passes, they inevitably leave a trace, even when he set up a formation to cross worlds, it left spatial traces, though he would use formations to conceal them, but that was because his formation mastery was incredibly high, with the system, he was practically using cheat codes.
Could it be that the Evil Gods also had a super formation master? That should not be the case, even if it were the strongest formation master, he possessed Omniscience of All Objects, no formation could remain hidden from his eyes.
But then why? Could the Evil Gods be so powerful that crossing space left no traces?
Impossible, they definitely faced immense resistance when crossing worlds, far more difficult for them than for him, otherwise, they would have invaded the Mysterious Yellow Great World long ago, with the power of those dozen-plus Evil Gods, they could have flattened it ages ago.
But they had not, which meant they faced massive obstacles, it could also be seen from the recent great battle, they had paid a massive price just to send a single Evil God over, and the other one could only send its tentacles to fight, it obviously could not cross over entirely.
This showed their ability to traverse space was still lacking, in that case, why could he not find the slightest spatial fluctuation?
Adam and Drax’s footsteps grew increasingly heavy on the rugged path, every pant seemed to resonate with the dead-silent peak, echoing through empty valleys, as the sun set, the horizon was dyed a bizarre purplish-red, the mountain silhouettes appeared even more gloomy and terrifying under that glow.
"Brother Adam, do you think... could I have remembered wrong?" Drax’s voice carried a barely detectable tremble, under the setting sun, those seemingly similar peaks all appeared to have transformed into hideous beasts quietly watching them, he was terrified that because of him, they were doing useless work.
"Or perhaps the Evil Gods used some method to mislead us?"
Adam pondered, brows tightly locked, "Unlikely, the terrain and aura here both match the characteristics of the Evil God’s world, my Omniscience of All Objects hasn’t discovered any misleading formations, we haven’t gone astray."
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, attempting to use even more delicate perception to capture minute spatial fluctuations, but apart from the naturally formed flow of evil qi, it remained dead silent, as if the entire world were deliberately hiding something.
"Unless..." Adam suddenly opened his eyes, a sharp glint flashing through them.
"Perhaps it really is possible this way."
He looked down at the ground beneath his feet, his gaze pierced through the gravel and dead branches, as if trying to penetrate the surface and look directly at secrets hidden deep underground.
"Unless we ignored the most unlikely place, right under our feet," his voice was deep and firm, making Drax stop and follow his line of sight.
"Under our feet?" Drax repeated in confusion, then widened his eyes.
"Are you saying the entrance might be right where we are standing?"
Adam nodded, contemplation flickering in his eyes, "That’s right, all along, we focused on the peaks and surroundings, yet neglected the ground itself, the Evil Gods might have utilized this exact psychology to hide the true entrance."
He crouched down, meticulously inspecting the ground, hands brushing aside loose soil and dead leaves, Drax hurriedly joined in, one on the left, one on the right, they searched every inch of the land.
As time passed, the afterglow faded and night descended, atop the peak, the biting cold wind howled, adding eeriness to this evil world.
Digging three feet deep, they found absolutely nothing.
Strange, now he truly had searched everywhere, both the heavens above and the earth below.
"Brother Adam, it’s possible I really remembered wrong, why don’t we forget it? Let’s think of another way," Drax wanted to give up.
"Or we can go to a city and look for other humans, they should have similar memories, we can verify with them first."
Adam frowned slightly, "That’s too risky, I’ve already killed an Evil God, they are definitely on high alert, the moment we show our faces, we’ll be captured."
"But doing this isn’t a solution either," Drax sighed.
"You couldn’t be wrong, when a person suffers a massive shock, their memories are usually the most vivid, we must have overlooked something," Adam shook his head, staring at the ground as his brain raced at lightning speed.
...
"Thank you, Brother Adam, for believing in me so much," Drax’s eyes were filled with gratitude.
Adam’s cultivation realm was so high, and he had experienced so much, yet he was actually still willing to trust him.
