Chapter 1054: Chapter 51: The Opportunity

After trying several places, the answer that Go Biqing received was mostly, "Leave your resume, and we’ll notify you if there’s anything we need."

Such formulaic responses basically meant there was no hope left. Looking at the last resume in his hand, Go Biqing gritted his teeth and considered for a long time before heading to a less crowded place because it advertised hiring a general helper. It was curious that such a hiring position appeared at this formal job fair, especially given that the requirement was a bachelor’s degree, yet the salary was very ordinary, even somewhat low. However, this salary could barely cover Go Biqing’s current expenses for a month, so he decided to give it a try.

He saw a middle-aged man sitting there who took Go Biqing’s resume, glanced over it, and asked, "You just graduated, right?"

Go Biqing replied honestly, "Yes, I just received my diploma these past two days."

"Why did you think of applying for this position? It seems like few people are interested, and our conditions aren’t high," the man asked.

Go Biqing, having looked through some books about job hunting as he needed to find work for himself, knew the importance of this response. He simply said that perhaps his answer would determine the first impression he gave.

"Because I need a job that can support myself right now, but I don’t want to do manual labor. Although I can’t handle many positions yet, I think I could manage this one, and it seems to be the only job at the fair where I feel I have a better chance," Go Biqing calmly explained.

He wasn’t sure if the man was satisfied with that answer, but after pondering for a moment, the man said, "You probably don’t know the nature of our work. Many people like you have come and left after hearing it. Your job would be to arrive at the company by at least five o’clock every day, start boiling water, organize miscellaneous items, and cleaning isn’t required as we hire cleaners for that. You’ll need to stay at the company all day, but we can guarantee lunch and dinner for you. You won’t be off work until after eight in the evening, depending on that day’s company tasks. The monthly salary is 1,200 yuan, and it includes two meals. If you agree, you can start working tomorrow; I’m tired and can go home early to rest."

Upon hearing the conditions, Go Biqing calculated silently in his heart. This way, he could barely hold on because eating two meals at the company would save him quite a bit every month.

"I have a small request; I’m not sure if I can propose it. If your company can meet it, I can start working tomorrow," Go Biqing thought of another way to save money and asked.

The middle-aged man simply said, "Of course you can, but our answer might disappoint you."

"That is, can I live in the company? This way, I can also keep watch at night," Go Biqing said directly. If he could get permission, he could save on rent, utilities, and more.

The middle-aged man was somewhat surprised by Go Biqing’s request but still asked, "Does this request have to be met?"

Go Biqing felt hopeful about his chances and didn’t want to miss the opportunity. Right now, any job he found had a salary of less than 2,000 yuan a month, excluding two meals, which wasn’t much more than that company’s offer. However, many had their own housing or could eat at home, so they thought the salary was low because it was fixed, unlike jobs with commission, and thus were unwilling to take it, but this didn’t mean absolutely no one would come. Missing out on this opportunity would truly be a shame.

"Of course not. It would be best if it could be like this because my lease is about to expire, and finding a place right now is terribly difficult, as you might know. I also have to start work so early every day; it would be quite inconvenient for me, thus my request. If it’s really not possible, I can manage," Go Biqing quickly stated.

"Alright, here’s my business card; go to Tianheng Company tomorrow. Here’s the address, and come to the HR department to find me. I’ll bring this issue up above. Whether it can be resolved, I’m not sure," the man handed Go Biqing a business card, then packed up and left straightaway.

After keeping the business card, Go Biqing no longer wished to stay. After many setbacks today, he finally found a job, even though it wasn’t very satisfactory, but if living at the company was possible, a monthly salary of 1,200 yuan was considered very decent, definitely not inferior to those who earned 2,000 yuan a month.

After leaving the venue, Go Biqing took out his phone to call Sun Yan to briefly ask about Gwen’s situation and mentioned that he would pick her up for fun today. Sun Yan might have felt guilty about scolding Gwen yesterday, so she agreed without much thought.

Then, Go Biqing boarded a bus headed to Gwen’s kindergarten; anyway, Gwen had no classes or commitments this afternoon.

Sitting on the bus, Go Biqing looked at the passengers on both sides and the situation inside the bus, feeling some emotion because he had nearly forgotten the feeling of riding a bus. Perhaps he had ridden it during childhood, but now he couldn’t remember. When his family was affluent, they always drove their own car, and when he was older, he asked his father to buy him one, never needing to take the bus. Unexpectedly, the bus had now become his most reliable means of transportation.

This huge contrast in life wasn’t as simple as Murong Qing imagined. At least Go Biqing solely knew that his heart hadn’t completely adapted to this lifestyle. However, for his father and mother, who were already in Heaven, he persisted in not showing his weakness to them.

Soon, the bus arrived at the stop. After getting off, Go Biqing had to walk a distance, checking the time; it was half-past ten in the morning, and there was half an hour before Gwen finished school. So, Go Biqing went to a nearby shop and bought a drink and a bag of chips. He was never stingy with his sister, even if he abstained from eating or drinking, preferring to see her smile.

At the kindergarten gate, Go Biqing quickly spotted Gwen playing, and Gwen recognized him among the parents picking up their kids at the entrance. Gwen was clearly delighted at Go Biqing’s appearance.

Gwen ran over to the iron gate; Go Biqing hurriedly squatted down, handed her the drink through it, and said, "Look at you playing; come, let brother wipe your sweat and drink a few sips of your beverage. You’re probably thirsty. Here’s a snack."

While talking, Go Biqing took out a tissue to thoroughly wipe Gwen’s forehead. After drinking some sips, Gwen handed the beverage back to Go Biqing, saying, "Brother, you drink."

Unable to refuse his sister’s kind thought, Go Biqing opened the bottle cap and brought it to his lips, pretending to take a sip without truly drinking, then put it aside.

At this time, a little boy from the kindergarten also ran over. Gwen proudly pointed at Go Biqing and said, "Zheng Nan, look! This is my brother, who spoils me the most. See, he came to pick me up and even bought me a drink and chips."

The boy named Zheng Nan looked envious, obviously admiring Gwen for having such a caring brother. Go Biqing smiled and said, "Alright, Nana, I’ll open the chips. Share them with Zheng Nan; remember, good things are more fun when shared with those who care about you. Enjoying them alone isn’t much fun."
