Chapter 1043 - 40: Graduation Day
Chapter 1043: Chapter 40: Graduation Day
Today is Go Biqing’s graduation day, but holding his college diploma, he feels no joy, only worries about his future life.
A month ago, Go Biqing lived in a luxurious villa on the outskirts of H City, leading a carefree life like a pampered son. But now, he only has a few clothes and lives in a temporary small room, calculating even the use of toilet paper after using the bathroom, as he has less than two thousand yuan left, including unpaid rent.
Go Biqing’s father was the owner of a furniture factory in H City, considered a fairly large factory. However, over a month ago, a fire completely changed Go Biqing’s life.
Due to a warehouse employee’s mistake, a newly built warehouse went up in flames, and that’s not the worst of it. The crucial point is, because the warehouse was newly built, it wasn’t insured yet. As a result, in addition to several deaths, there was no compensation, and all the newly completed furniture was destroyed. The buyer’s payments and bank loans instantly bankrupted the factory, and over this month, Go Biqing truly experienced what it means to be abandoned by family and friends.
His father, a man always focused on his own factory, also passed away due to a heart attack, leaving Go Biqing with a big mess.
Fortunately, Go Biqing had already completed his thesis and everything related, so he didn’t have to worry about graduation as he completed his father’s posthumous affairs while suppressing his grief.
Go Biqing will always remember that day at the funeral hall with only three people present: himself, his half-sister, and the stepmother who hadn’t officially joined the family. No other close family or friends came, only creditors.
As a child who had lost his mother early on, Go Biqing didn’t know what maternal love meant, and his father never spent much effort on him due to work-related reasons.
Holding his diploma, Go Biqing returned home to find a woman standing at his door. Facing this woman named Sun Yan, Go Biqing had many grievances. If not for her, perhaps his mother wouldn’t have died so early. Go Biqing never showed much kindness to this woman, and due to his resolute opposition, this woman had not stepped into their home. He even threatened to sever the father-son relationship to prevent his father from formally bringing her into their family.
Go Biqing’s relationship with this woman was always tense, with several near arguments. Of course, Go Biqing knew these disputes were instigated by him because he felt uncomfortable simply seeing this woman.
But strangely, Go Biqing cared deeply for his sister, who was not even six years old, and never argued with the woman in front of his sister. He sought ways to fulfill whatever his sister wanted.
Strangely, Go Biqing’s name was chosen because his father, during a trip to the Northwest back in the day, saw the vast desert and impulsively vowed to green the whole desert. Though now that seems like youthful recklessness, Go Biqing’s name originates from this. Fortunately, Go Biqing’s sister’s name was better, named Gwen, though Go Biqing always called her by her nickname, Nana.
"Come in," Go Biqing said calmly. She had helped with the funeral arrangements, and it was only reasonable she attended, though Go Biqing would’ve preferred her not to be there. Despite her youthful beauty, in Go Biqing’s eyes, she was just a siren.
Despite her assistance, Go Biqing found it hard to be rude to her now, though his tone carried deliberate unfamiliarity.
Entering his new home, it was Sun Yan’s first visit, even her daughter knew the place, and she was stunned upon entering.
The small room was not only tiny but lacked any decor, even the bathroom was shared, leaving no personal space, and the furnishings were dismal. Without opening windows, one might need to turn on the lights even during the day.
"What’s the matter?" knowing that Nana wasn’t with her, Go Biqing was aware the woman must have something to discuss.
"I’m here to talk about the household registration," Sun Yan said calmly to the young man not defeated by grief.
"I’ve said Nana’s name can be added, but not yours. Now that my dad’s gone, I’m the head of the household, let’s not discuss this," Go Biqing recalled last year’s intense argument with his father over the same issue about adding Sun Yan and Gwen to the registration. He directly said that adding Gwen was no problem, but if Sun Yan was added, he’d remove himself. This fierce opposition temporarily deterred his father, who perhaps hoped Go Biqing would eventually agree to add both Sun Yan and Gwen. But, in the end, his father never fulfilled this wish.
Shaking her head, Sun Yan said, "I’m not here for that now. I’ve given up on adding myself. As long as Nana is added, I’m content. I’ve come to ask you to cooperate with me to handle this quickly."
Go Biqing looked at Sun Yan perplexed, but wouldn’t soften towards her for a temporary concession. Still, since she said this now, Go Biqing did not refuse: "Tomorrow then, I’ll go to the community office to get the paperwork. Remember to bring Nana’s birth certificate. Anything else?"
"That’s all, I came only for this," Sun Yan hesitated slightly before saying.
Then Go Biqing and Sun Yan headed out together. Though Sun Yan’s concession today couldn’t make Go Biqing fully forgive or accept her, he could at least accompany her out.
At the entrance downstairs, Sun Yan turned and said, "No need to send me further, go back."
Go Biqing nodded, turned back, unaware of a flash of hesitation in Sun Yan’s eyes. Returning to his room, Go Biqing took out his last bit of savings and earnestly planned how to make it last until he received his first paycheck.
"I need to pay the landlord two months’ rent, that’s six hundred yuan. Then, subtracting this month’s food expenses, phone bill, and other necessary costs, a thousand yuan, no, eight hundred yuan. I need to be more thrifty; keep at least three hundred yuan as an emergency fund. I won’t ask that siren for help," Go Biqing muttered, counting his money.
After a simple plan, Go Biqing carefully stored his money, as it was now his entire wealth. No accidents could occur, otherwise, true disaster would strike.
