God of Adaptation

Chapter 326: Plan

Along with the powers of the World Tree’s Fruit seeping into his body, Regis could also feel his Perfect Adaptation absorbing some of the nutrients like a starved beast.

Of course, it did not take most of the fruit’s energy as the majority of it still headed towards his soul.

After all, even those granted a fruit by the World Tree could normally absorb only a fraction of its energy before the rest dissipated, as attempting to forcefully absorb more would only cause greater harm than benefit.

Beside him, Elysia and Wisteria could roughly sense what was happening.

Although they respected his privacy and refrained from probing his body directly, they could still feel the Fruit of the World Tree being absorbed at a rapid pace.

After all, there was no one more familiar with the fruit than the two of them.

Shock flashed across their eyes, but they immediately calmed down afterwards.

Elysia could not help but heave a sigh, ’I know that I can still quite control my emotions, but this kid’s been able to shock me time and time again...’

Meanwhile, Regis speechlessly sensed what was happening inside his body.

’Even the smallest soul injury would take years to heal. This miraculous fruit could heal them in an instant, but since doing so would result in backlash, it shortens the time it takes to heal to weeks instead...’

’But now...’

Inside his body, he could sense the fruit’s powers healing his soul at a rapid pace.

Furthermore, whenever his soul started to sustain backlash due to the overflowing energy, his Perfect Adaptation would cause his soul to adapt to the damage instead.

Regis’s eyes brightened, ’With this, I think I can heal my soul in an insta— What!?’

Just as he was rejoicing, he felt the dissipation of the World Tree Fruit’s energy.

It dissipated not because I wanted to avoid further backlash on his soul— it had simply run out.

It was just that simple.

Regis carefully assessed the situation of his soul, ’With the state my soul’s currently in, I would need at least a week’s time to fully recover...’

This confused him since even sixty percent of the bitten fruit’s power could heal his soul injuries more than ten times over.

Just as Regis was racking his brain to figure out what had gone wrong, an unstoppable force of sleepiness assaulted every fiber of his being.

The last thing he heard was Elysia’s voice drifting as he gradually fell asleep.

"Don’t worry, this is a side effect of your soul injuries..."

Looking at the young man sleeping on her lap, the Elven Queen smiled, "Now, he finally looks like a child."

In her perspective, humans— especially those who have not even reached a hundred years old were nothing but toddlers.

Not to mention the young man who was only in the beginning of his teenage years.

It was just that Regis’s actions since earlier were not befitting of someone his age.

At this moment, Elysia’s expression suddenly turned serious as she slowly stood up while carrying the sleeping young man in her arms.

Noticing the shift in her mood, Wisteria could not help but ask, "What do we do now, Ely?"

"Whatever we can."

Elysia responded calmly, "As expected of the fruit nurtured by the Mother Herself. I could feel the corrosion in my soul dissipating "

With Regis in her arms, she calmly returned to the Temple of Life.

Elysia barely even looked at the corpse of the abomination, who had the faces of the two individuals who were very close to her throughout her life.

Wisteria could not help but furrow her brows in worry, "Ely..."

"I am the queen, Wisteria. I’m not just Elysia— I am Edenelia, the motherland herself. The safety of the people took precedence over petty emotions."

The spirit knew that even though her contractor seemed heartless, she was anything but that.

Nevertheless, Wisteria could only float as she followed behind Elysia into the Temple of Life.

Despite the devastation wrought by the battle between Regis and the abomination throughout the Sacred Land, the Temple of Life, as a holy temple of a god, had suffered only minor damage.

A few vines draped across its walls had withered, their protective energy exhausted in shielding the sacred structure.

As Elysia walked in the center aisle of the temple, she could not help but feel a myriad of emotions.

Despite the cold words she had uttered earlier, she could not suppress the emotions welling within her as memories of this temple resurfaced one after another in her mind.

Elysia’s steps never faltered.

She walked to the frontmost pew and gently laid the sleeping Regis upon it, "Wisteria, keep an eye on our young hero while I take care of a few matters first."

"He shouldn’t remain asleep for long. Since he has already consumed the Fruit of the World Tree, he should awaken within an hour or so," she continued after a moment.

Wisteria nodded seriously as her small figure sat on the sleeping Regis’s forehead.

"..."

Elysia could not help but be taken aback at the action of her spirit familiar, ’To think that she’s already that comfortable with him.’

As she stared at the scene for a moment, a pang of tenderness welled up in her heart.

Elysia ten steeled herself as she turned around.

She did not pray to the altar like she used to.

Instead, she headed straight to the Eternal Orb floating quietly in the corner.

With a touch of her hand, the states of nearly a thousand settlements of Edenelia within the Forest of Eternity appeared in her mind.

This was not a simple visual projection.

It resembled an intricately detailed map that appeared directly within Elysia’s consciousness, which she examined through the perception of her soul.

Through it, she could not only monitor the conditions of every settlement, but also manipulate the sub-orbs of the Eternal Orb stationed within them.

Elysia began analyzing the state of every settlement, seeking the most effective course of action they could take given the limited time available.

’We were prepared for an attack, but I never expected them to sever my connection with Mother. The situation is clearly more dire than I initially thought.’
