Chapter 322: Last Stand

  • Next Chapter

The abomination’s battle style had undergone a drastic change.

Unlike its earlier approach, which relied on wildly flailing its elongated limbs and striking with its claws like whips, its movements now carried a degree of technique.

Of its four limbs, the two lower ones wielded the rosy bone sword and remained free for casting magic spells.

Meanwhile, the upper limbs had retracted from their previously elongated state and now held a pristine silver bow that emitted powerful magical fluctuations.

Aside from his depleted stamina and exhausted mind, Regis also felt a sense of helplessness.

The abomination was no longer a powerful but wild monster.

Instead, it felt as though he was fighting two top-tier combatants with years of experience and flawless coordination.

At this moment, the abomination’s two heads spoke in unison.

Its upper limbs pulled the bow as vast amounts of energy from Elwood’s heart took the shape of an arrow.

Meanwhile, as its lower free hand maintained the Grand Magic, Radix Damnatio, the rosy bone sword began to glow with an ethereal light.

[Wrath of Nature] [Withering Slash]

The abomination cast two aura arts while maintaining a magic spell and executing different actions with all four of its limbs.

Its upper limbs aimed the bow to the sky as it shot an arrow of intertwining red and green, while its rosy bone sword slashed a wave of black towards Regis.

Regis immediately dodged and parried the attacks according to the information given by Elysia earlier.

’Wrath of Nature is a wide-area aura art. It explodes in the sky and turns into a rain of black and red arrows. Each arrow causes severe mental disturbance and deals tremendous damage.

Withering Slash locks onto a living target and will continue chasing it until it hits or runs out of energy. Once it lands, it drains the life force of its target.’

His mind worked in overdrive despite the severe mental exhaustion and depleted stamina.

BOOM—-!!!

A booming sound resounded throughout the Sacred Land of the Temple of Life as a massive explosion erupted in the sky.

Swoosh— Swoosh— Swoosh—

Just as Elysia had said earlier, a rain of arrows descended from above— like a punishment from the heavens themselves.

[Weakpoint Creation]

Regis chanted once again, which worsened the pain in his mind drastically.

This time, however, he did not direct his gift onto his opponent or the attacks themselves.

Instead, he directed it onto the ground.

Without missing a beat, Regis raised his right foot and stomped hard.

CRASH—-!

The ground beneath cracked like fragile glass as large debris rose due to the sheer impact.

"Oho?"

The abomination had an interested expression on its face.

But its focus and the bulging veins on its temples made the effort it was exerting in the fight obvious.

Regis did not pay it any mind as he began dodging more wildly.

Furthermore, while dodging, his hands flicked debris from the ground, sending it hurtling toward the descending arrows and intercepting a large portion of them before they could even reach the ground.

Nevertheless, he did not dare relax even a bit.

’The Wrath of Nature’s arrow rain will continue for five minutes....’ Regis remembered more of the information he was told earlier.

Though he did not make it obvious, Regis’s situation was dire.

A single mistake was all it would take for him to die.

Radix Damnatio and Wrath of Nature are both wide-range abilities, which the abomination casts to restrict his movements.

As the Sacred Land was a special area in the Forest of Eternity, although large, its space was still limited.

Had Regis not shattered the ground to provide himself with some escape routes, he would have long run out of places to run to.

Meanwhile, Withering Slash stayed at around one meter behind him.

This meant that he could not slow down for even a second, unless he wanted to wither like a leaf with all its life drained from it.

Of course, while doing all of that, he also had to ensure that his magic field continued to cover Astrum Sanctuarium, which further restricted his movements.

Inside the dome of starlights...

Elysia and Wisteria watched the situation outside with anxious expressions, their hearts pounding so hard it felt as though they would burst from their chests.

"It’s been nearly an hour since the fight started..." Wisteria whispered, her eyes glued to the figure of the young man outside.

Elysia nodded in agreement, "Even with all the information I provided... How could he face that monster alone while maintaining a grand magic spell?"

Noticing something strange, Wisteria could not help but mutter, "Why is he keeping his left eye closed? There’s no injury and no blood blocking his vision."

That was right.

Only now did they realize that, as the battle reached its most intense stage, Regis had been keeping his left eye closed.

However, the two of them could not possibly think of a reason behind this strange action of his.

Furthermore, Elysia was currently overwhelmed by a torrent of negative emotions, feeling utterly helpless and powerless in the face of the situation.

’If only I wasn’t so useless...’ She thought to herself, guilt filling every fiber of her being.

However, the feeling as if a knife was being pressed against his throat restricted Elysia from providing any substantial help.

She knew it deep in her heart, through the instinct that had been refined for countless years.

The moment she used even a single drop of mana, her very soul would be corroded, and she would lose control of herself.

In fact, even now, she could not fully control her emotions, and every movement felt unnaturally difficult, as though she were moving through a body of impossibly dense water.

’Please... Mother, help him...’

All Elysia could do right now was pray and wish for Regis’s victory.

However, despite their desperate hope that he would win, the reality before them was cruel—every little detail pointed to his defeat.

Elysia and Wisteria’s hearts were filled with pain as they watched the scene outside.

The battle had soon reached its climax.

Regis was doing everything he could to stay alive amid the abomination’s ferocious assault, which crashed upon him like a relentless storm.

At this very moment, his last stand had begun.
