God of Adaptation

Chapter 318: Arsenal

  • Next Chapter

Staring at the abomination before him that seemed to have escaped from someone’s worst nightmare, Regis could not help but chuckle wryly.

’This is going to be a problem...’

He began racking his brain, going through his current arsenal now that his aura had run out and his options had become extremely limited.

Casting magic spells was out of the question.

After all, even though Regis was capable of multicasting, preserving Astrum Sanctuarium took priority above all else.

Maintaining it already consumes a tremendous amount of mana.

And if the abomination ever decided to attack it directly, the mana expenditure would increase drastically.

Of course, his divine power was also out of the question.

Given that Regis was not yet backed into a corner, he would rather keep a few tricks up his sleeve, especially since he had no idea how Elysia and Wisteria would react.

The white power of faith within him was still something he had yet to properly explore due to its sheer difficulty, even though many years had passed since he first gained it.

Currently, he has four available weapons.

The first weapon was, of course, his gifts.

The transparent Perfect Adaptation, Gold-grade Tranquility, Platinum-grade Weakpoint Creation, and Diamond-grade Instant Regeneration.

Although it was a pity he did not awaken one when he first gained chaos energy, it was largely due to the properties of the energy itself.

Still, Gifts had three methods of energy consumption when used.

Some would use stamina or mental energy, which had its own pros and cons.

However, the most common form of energy consumption was for a Gift to draw upon the energy its user had awakened when the Gift itself first manifested.

Aurelia’s Hand of the Greedy King was one such example.

Since she had awakened her Gift alongside mana, it naturally consumed mana to function.

Still, everything was up to chance.

Regis’s Perfect Adaptation, however, appeared to be an exception to this rule.

He did not know exactly what it used to activate, but he knew it could only adapt to a single thing at a time, despite its adaptation having already grown to a terrifying degree with his development.

On the other hand, Tranquility and Weakpoint Creation consumed mental power, while Instant Regeneration drew upon his stamina.

As for Perfect Adaptation, its source of energy remained a mystery even to him.

The second weapon he currently had was his demonic power.

Specifically, the evil crafts that were discreet in nature, which were: Corruption Manipulation, Sinful Arbiter of Darkness, and Soul Possession.

Of course, whether they could actually be put to use in the current situation was another matter altogether.

The third weapon at Regis’s disposal was chaos energy.

Unlike Marzana, whose special constitution seemed tailor-made for it and allowed her to smoothly reach the Early Stage Three-Star Realm, Regis was different.

Although he had gained chaos energy and adapted to it, he had not gained any particular talent for it.

His Perfect Adaptation merely allowed his body to accommodate chaos energy without conflict, and not to the point where he could gain tremendous talent for it.

As such, Regis was currently only at the Early Stage One-Star Realm on the path of chaos energy.

The nullification power of chaos energy, as he and Marzana had discovered, had a ratio of one-to-one.

Meaning that very particle of chaos energy could nullify a single particle of another power, whether it be mana, aura, divine power, or demonic power.

However, with each major realm, the nullification ratio increased by one.

This meant that Marzana, who had reached the Three-Star Realm, possessed a one-to-three nullification ratio against other forms of energy.

As for the fourth and final weapon Regis could think of...

It was none other than his physical body.

Strengthened by the various forms of energy within him, his body had long surpassed that of an ordinary person.

For most people, only aura could strengthen the body over time.

Regis, however, was different.

Thanks to Perfect Adaptation, every form of energy he possessed contributed to the growth of his physique.

All of these thoughts flashed through Regis’s mind in an instant.

When he opened his eyes once more, his gaze was noticeably clearer than before as a strategy had already taken shape in his mind.

The abomination keenly sensed the sudden change in him and sneered, "What are you thinking about? A way to defeat me? I hate to break it to you, but that’s impossible! Hahaha~"

"You seem to have mistaken something."

Regis said calmly as he cracked his neck from side to side.

One by one, he flexed his fingers and cracked his knuckles, the sharp pops echoing through the area.

"You’re the challenger here."

His unexpected words brought a frown to both of the abominations’ faces.

A smug smile hung on Regis’s lips as he continued, "I’m not the one trying to accomplish something today. You are."

His blood-red gaze met the abomination’s crimson eyes.

"So start worrying about how you’re going to defeat me."

"Y-You..."

The abomination stuttered as its thoughts spiraled wildly, unknown emotions flickering in its eyes.

"Shut up, you mere human!"

It quickly regained its composure and used its three remaining uninjured elongated arms to launch an unceasing barrage of attacks toward Regis.

Swoosh— Swoosh— Swoosh—

The abomination looked ferocious, though a closer look revealed a faint hint of urgency beneath its crazed exterior.

Regis merely smirked at its reaction as he suddenly threw his sword straight towards the abomination’s chest with all his might.

While the sword flew rapidly, both of his hands moved in a fluid motion.

One claw aimed for his chest, another for his throat, and the third swept in from below.

Regis did not retreat.

With a calm shift of his body, he redirected each strike just enough for them to miss cleanly.

But instead of letting them pass entirely, his hands moved in tandem, catching, pressing, and guiding the limbs at their joints and wrists.

In an instant, all three claws were forced off their original paths and locked in place, their momentum turned against each other and the ground.

The abomination’s movements stalled for a split second as its own limbs became restrained, its attack formation forcibly broken.

This left it immobilized as the flying sword continued to shoot towards its chest.

’Shit, I can’t move!"

The abomination cried out in its mind as demonic power surged from within its body.

Immediately afterward, the flesh on its chest began to churn as tumor-like bulges formed across it, while bones pierced outward from within.

The entire chest twisted and deformed until it coalesced into a grotesque layer of armor shielding its heart.

"Hah! You caught me off guard earlier and even cut off one of my claws, but you think you can pierce my defenses by throwing a sword?"

Its grating voice echoed through the area as it gloated.

However, upon seeing the smug smile tugging at Regis’s lips deepen, the abomination’s heart skipped a beat.

Swoosh—

The sword rapidly closed the distance between them.

Unbeknownst to it, Regis’s gaze was locked onto a specific point on its chest as he chanted within his mind.

[Weakpoint Creation]
