Chapter 294: Wyvern Bait

  • Next Chapter

Wyverns were creatures with dragon blood and thus were also known as a draconic creature.

Their yellow pupils had a peculiar shine to them, while their vertical draconic pupils made them look even more dangerous.

They had two dragon horns forming on their heads, with their gray scales framing their faces into a sharp draconic look.

Their arms and wings seemed to have merged, as claws could be seen on the head of their bat-like draconic wings, which they used to dig into the mountain wall.

They had two legs behind their wings, both of which were covered in sturdy draconic scales as well.

Like the claws on their wings, they’re also using the claws on their feet to dig into the mountain wall, which further stabilizes their position.

Finally, they had a tail with a sharp end, looking like a lethal spear.

"What now..."

Aeola whispered, her voice trembling.

Regis’s eyes squinted, feeling a little nervous in his heart, ’From a glance, there are over ten wyverns on the wall, but I can still sense countless ones on the summit...’

Wyverns, due to their dragon blood, were a little like demons.

Demons were hard to take down due to the potency of their demonic power, giving them a huge advantage.

Like demonic power, dragon blood worked the same.

Depending on the purity of the dragon blood in a creature’s body, both their physical body and relative energy would receive a huge overall enhancement.

This meant that, just as a demon at the One Star Realm needed a human army at the same realm or a master to be dealt with, draconic creatures were the same.

Of course, the level of enhancement purely depended on the purity of their dragon bloodline.

Since wyverns were not real dragons, the enhancement on their body and the difference between other creatures of the same realm would not be too absurd.

Overall, it still meant that wyverns were stronger than other creatures of the same realm.

At that moment, among the wyverns at the forefront, Regis, Pandora, and Aeola immediately spotted a few at the Three Star Realm, along with a handful at the Four Star Realm, while an army of Two Star Realm wyverns stretched out like a sea behind.

However, Regis’s blood-red eyes saw past everything as he could not help but feel a presence far more powerful and dangerous at the back, ’Is that a Five-Star wyvern? It’s possible...’

’Fortunately, these two looked like they didn’t notice it due to the number of presences clashing with each other...’ Noticing Pandora and Aeola’s expressions, he felt relieved.

Seeing the large group of wyverns in front of them, the relative information about them instantly appears in their minds.

After all, since they knew they were going past the Sagrada Dragona mountain range, their encountering draconic creatures was not really unexpected.

"But something’s still strange about this situation..." Regis could not help but mutter under his breath.

Pandora and Aeola glanced at each other and nodded in agreement.

The former was the first one to respond, "Yes, Brother. Wyverns are sensitive to mana, but we should’ve been careful enough..."

"The reason they behaved this way must be because of something..." The latter added.

Regis nodded. "Maybe it’s their breeding season. There hasn’t been much study on draconic creatures because of how dangerous they are... but I think there’s a high chance. They tend to become this aggressive only during breeding season or when they’re guarding their eggs."

"So it’s just one or the other, huh?" Aeola replied, a frown appearing on her face as Pandora nodded along.

At this moment, the three were still encased in thick layers of mana barrier, looking like a piece of glowing fruit in the wyverns’ eyes while they looked at them with both curiosity and aggression.

Aeola gulped audibly, "But what do we do now, Leader?"

Feeling the two’s gazes on him, Regis’s mind went into overdrive, ’We can’t waste time here... we’re still far from Edenelia.

But with all of us together, I’m not confident we can outrun an army of wyverns. If I were alone, the situation would be simpler... I’d only have to think of myself...’

And so after half a minute of thinking, he came to a conclusion.

Regis glanced at Pandora and Aeola with a serious expression, "You two should go and leave with the caravan. I’ll deal with these chickens here."

"No, Brother," Pandora instantly replied, while a difficult expression appeared on Aeola’s face.

Shaking his head, Regis looked them in the eye, "We don’t have much time. We can’t delay the reinforcement for Edenelia, and we can’t outrun these wyverns if we were to move as a group..."

Regis spent five whole minutes convincing them before he got them to agree.

"This would be the plan..."

Afterwards, he began discussing the details of the plan he had thought of just a few moments earlier with the two of them...

This lasted ten minutes in total.

"Oh, wait."

Regis took something from his pocket before giving it to Pandora, "Remember everything, okay? Take this with you and leave. It’s not like I’ll die here, so just tell everyone I’ll be taking a little detour."

"Yes, Brother." Pandora nodded solemnly.

After bidding farewell, Pandora and Aeola immediately ran, leaving Regis behind.

GRRR—-!!!

The wyverns on the mountain wall growled the moment they saw the two figures running hurriedly for their lives.

Just as some of the wyverns turned their heads and prepared to take flight in pursuit of the human and beastkin women, they suddenly sensed a surge of mana that drew their attention at once.

"Don’t you dare take your eyes off me."

Regis muttered under his breath, yet his voice travelled and echoed throughout the mountain range as it was carried by an unbelievably strong fluctuation of magic energy that resonated with the environment’s own mana.

In his hands was a ball of concentrated mana, which attracted not only the wyverns in the mountain but also all the draconic creatures within a thousand-kilometer radius.

[Grand Magic...]

His reverberating chant was the last thing the wyverns heard before they were struck by one of his strongest magic spells.
