Chapter 157: Killing the Demonized Griffins I

  • Next Chapter

Aeroflow was a wind-type low rank magic spell used to decrease the air resistance of a target which allowed for faster movement.

Like Aeroflow, Gustwave was a wind-type low rank magic spell.

The only difference was the fact that it was a spell that produces a relatively strong- though not enough to cause any damage by itself- surge of wind.

Regis then looked on ahead and saw the mountain wall up ahead.

His mind worked wonders along with his gift of Tranquility as he was able to instantly calculate the distance between them.

100 meters...

80 meters...

50 meters...

As the demonized griffin’s speed continued to increase, it began to feel that it had no control over its legs as it began to spread its wings.

Since it was an intelligent creature, it didn’t take long before it figured out a solution to its current situation.

It thought that since it couldn’t control its own legs, then using its wings to fly would help it regain control of its body.

Regis was also able to come to this conclusion shortly after he saw the demonized griffin try to spread its wings.

"As if I’ll let you do that."

His focus reached its peak as a magic circle formed on his wand once again.

[Aeroflow]

Faint green waves of wind surrounded the demonized griffin’s black wings, drastically decreasing its air resistance.

It didn’t take long before the monster’s wings were able to fully spread.

Flap—!

KREEE!?!?

The demonized griffin let out a screech of confusion soon after it tried to flap its wings.

FLAP—!!!

FLAP!!! FLAP!!!

KREEEE!!!???

As it tried to flap its wings a few more times, each flap being harder than before, it was overwhelmed with confusion.

The reason for this being the fact that it couldn’t produce enough force to lift itself up.

It was confused since it only normally took a slight flap of its wings in order to lift itself up, but it wasn’t able to do so now no matter how hard it flapped its wings.

"Stop trying, it’s futile." Regis smirked as he could sense the monster’s frustration.

He had studied a variety of things back at the libraries in Corelli Fortress with one of them being the principles about how birds fly with their wings.

In a nutshell, birds needed to generate enough pressure with their wings to lift themselves up which needed air resistance.

Without it, they would not be able to fly no matter how hard they flapped their wings.

This was exactly what the demonized griffin was going through right at this moment. Therefore, it had no choice but to continue running.

If it were other people, they would have long found it difficult to hold onto the back of the demonized griffin due to its sheer speed.

This was the case even if they had a mana string like Regis that bound them onto the monster.

After all, the uncontrollable tremble brought upon by the griffin’s movement, the force of the wind that made it difficult to keep holding onto it, and the sheer speed that made it difficult to breathe would incapacitate a normal person.

Fortunately, Regis had long adapted to all these factors a few seconds after he began riding the demonized griffin.

’I hope that this works...’

He thought as he saw them nearing the mountain wall ahead.

Kreee—

The demonized griffin screeched as it stared at the obstacle before them.

"I know what you’re planning to do. You want to run up the mountain wall, right?" an evil grin found its way on Regis’s lips.

He then pointed his wand below- precisely at the monster’s limbs.

Before long, a magic circle formed before the red jewel embedded on the silver wand.

Unlike the earlier magic circles which were green that symbolized their wind element, the magic circle this time was brown like the color of the earth.

It didn’t take long before Regis’s lips parted once again.

[Slickstride]

At this moment, they were already very near the mountain wall- about 15 meters at least.

Just as the demonized griffin was readying itself to climb up the mountain walls, it fell chin-first to the ground as it suddenly slipped.

KRRR—!!!

It wasn’t even able to screech properly as it slid through the ground.

Slickstride was a magic spell that drastically decreases friction which was commonly used for pranks and to make people slip on the floor.

The creator of this spell would never have imagined that it would be used to combat a demonized griffin.

Regis then immediately started the next course of his plan.

With his left hand holding the mana string that kept him bound to the monster, he held the steel sword on his right hand in reverse grip.

Translucent blue strings formed again, this time binding the steel sword’s handle to his right wrist.

Then, using his whole body, he threw the steel sword towards the mountain wall with full force. He also strengthened his right arm with a burst of aura in the process.

On his chest, a red star could be seen appearing beside the blue star shortly before disappearing immediately after..

This was one of the ways Regis invented in order to conserve his aura to its utmost limits- by only activating it along with a specific action instead of using it to enhance his overall physical capabilities.

The phenomenon brought upon by this technique would cause his aura star to "blink" on his chest.

Whoosh— Thuk!!!

The steel sword he threw rapidly cut through the air and was embedded deeply on the mountain wall.

In the process, the mana string that bound his right wrist and the handle of the steel sword increased in length accordingly.

Not willing to waste even a second, Regis immediately let go of the mana string on his left hand which was the one that bound him onto the demonized griffin.

In the next second, he tugged at the mana string on his right wrist before controlling it to shorten.

The mana string and the steel sword acted like a grappling hook which enabled him to arrive at the mountain wall before the monster who was rapidly sliding through the ground.

As he landed just before the mountain wall, Regis got up immediately and pulled the steel sword.

Then, he faced the demonized griffin who helplessly slid with great speed.

"Hooo..."

[Weakpoint Creation]

Regis chanted under his breath as a red dot appeared on the demonized griffin’s eye.

That was right, this was what he had been planning since earlier.

Holding the sword with both his hands, he positioned the blade parallel to his face as he stared at the incoming demonized griffin with utmost focus.

WHOOOSH—

It didn’t take long before the demonized griffin arrived before him...

SHIIIIKKKKK!!!!

...where a blade was waiting for it.

With monstrous precision, Regis drove the blade of his steel sword right into the demonized griffin’s red glowing eyes that were similar to his own.

His gift, Weakpoint Creation, made it so that his attack was able to bypass all of the monster’s defense.

"One down..."

His calm voice rang through the two other demonized griffin’s ears.

***

A while earlier...

"I know that he told us to fight but..."

KREEE!!!

Woosh—!!!

Killian’s golden hair danced freely in the air as he performed a backflip in order to dodge a demonized griffin’s tackle,

"...but how the hell am I supposed to fight when it’s taking all my strength just to dodge this chicken’s attacks!?" He complained out loud as yellow lightning continuously cackled on his body.

KREEE!!!

As if infuriated by what it heard, the demonized griffin continued to attack even more aggressively.

"Ah, shit!" Killian cursed as he dodged hurriedly, leaving a trail of lightning behind.

This exchange continued for a few more minutes as he thought of a way he could deal with the situation at hand.

Compared to when he first Regis, Killian had already grown so much stronger.

In fact, he had also learned additional aura arts in his already big arsenal of skills that he had nurtured as the young prodigy of the Gladius Family.

Aside from this, he had also tirelessly trained especially because of Regis’s influence.

In the past, even if Killian was the most talented in his family’s history, he strayed from the path of swordsmanship.

This was because he didn’t feel any stimulation from it: he didn’t have anyone his age that could be said to be his competition. Even those older than him lost against him in a spar.

It was then that he became the infamous hedonistic young master of his family.

As the memories of the past began to flash in his mind, Killian couldn’t help but chuckle, "Why am I getting flashbacks? I’m not even at the brink of death..."

It was at this moment that he began to feel an intense emotion welling up in his heart.

"..."

A feeling that he thought he had already moved on from due to all the time that has passed.

The feeling of overwhelming regret.
