Chapter 103: Sigh of Relief

"You don’t need to thank me, I’m just doing my job, after all."

The man spoke with a bright smile.

"Thank go..."

"Pardon?"

"I’m just thankful to Goddess Lemetina for bringing you to help us, Sir."

Regis heaved a sigh of relief both externally and internally upon feeling that his head was still on his body.

’It seems like he didn’t detect the demonic power within me...’

"Anyways, how do you feel?"

The man asked in concern as he took Regis’s hand to feel his pulse.

Seeing this, Regis didn’t panic, ’I should remain calm and composed. I know that they have already repeatedly checked my pulse.’

’This means that even then, they weren’t able to detect my demonic power. So being scared now will only seem more suspicious.’

Thoughts circulated in his mind in the span of a second as he replied, "I’m feeling better, Sir. By the way, I don’t want to be rude but I don’t want to just keep calling you sir..."

"Oh! My apologies if I made you uncomfortable in any way..."

The man seemed visibly surprised as he scratched the back of his head and replied, "My name is Alexis. I’m a priest serving the Goddess of Light and Virtue."

"Thank you, Sir Alexis. By the way my name is Regis and this is my sister, Pandora."

"Sister?"

The man, Alexis, raised his head and met Regis’s blood-red eyes, "You don’t seem to be blood related..."

’What the...’

’How did he know? Did they use some sort of device on me?’

Countless thoughts immediately poured in Regis’s mind as he wondered how he knew that.

Nevertheless, he was still able to reply without missing a beat, "Oh, I don’t mean to cause any misunderstanding. It’s just that we’ve been together for so long and we also get each other because of you know..."

Seeing him pointing at his eyes, Alexis immediately understood, "I’m sorry for my nosey attitude... it’s just that there’s a lot happening lately..."

"It’s fine, Sir Alexis. We understand."

"I’m glad to hear that. The demonic humans are just becoming more active lately, so we’re on high alert."

"Don’t worry about it, Sir Alexis."

Alexis bowed his head slightly in apology before letting go of Regis’s wrist, "Still, if there’s anything I can do for you then please just say so."

He felt really guilty because of the way he acted towards the two innocent children.

’How idiotic of me! How could I forget the stigma on humans with red irises...’ Alexis berated himself internally.

He was normally calm, but the incidents that were happening lately caused him to be always on the edge.

Glancing at Pandora, Regis scratched his head and said, "Well, I really don’t want to ask for anything knowing that you saved us, but..."

"Oh, don’t be shy. As long as it’s within my power." Alexis spoke with a bright smile.

Smiling sheepishly, Regis continued, "I just wanted to know if there’s any way for me and my sister here to get Adventurer IDs?"

"Is that all?" Alexis tilted his head slightly.

Regis nodded, "Yes, Sir Alexis. My sister and I just want to live a peaceful life."

"Are you sure about this? I could write you a recommendation letter for the Royal Academy if you want?"

"Thank you for the thought, Sir Alexis. But we just want to take it slow for now..."

Remembering what the two of them had just gone through, Alexis nodded in understanding, "If that’s what you wish..."

"However, I honestly don’t want both of your talents to go to waste. So if you ever change your mind, please don’t hesitate and come to me, okay?"

"Understood, Sir Alexis." Regis replied with a smile of gratitude on his face.

"Alright then." Alexis stood up, "I have some matters to attend to so I’ll be going first. If the two of you need something, just call the nuns outside. Though not obvious, they’re quite a friendly bunch."

"Also, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to visit you again. But I’ll make sure to have your IDs delivered by tomorrow morning."

"Eh?" Regis had a surprised expression on his face, "Don’t we need to take a test or something?"

Alexis chuckled lightly, "It’s fine, I’ll vouch for you. Besides, you were all able to make it out alive against a demonic high rank mage. So I believe it’ll be fine!"

"Oh and by the way, your companion is in the next room. His injuries were a little more serious, so you can visit him if you recover."

After speaking, he bowed slightly towards the two children and left the room.

Pat!

Closing the door behind him, Alexis sighed with a smile on his face.

"Huuu..."

As passed by the nun at the entrance of the door, his smile vanished, "Report to me if there’s anything amiss. Tell the others to investigate further about what happened."

"Understand, Chaplain Alexis." With her head lowered, the nun answered expressionlessly in a monotone voice.

Not bothering to answer her, Alexis kept walking with a slight frown on his face.

"Two children who already formed a star despite not being that much older than ten years old...?"

"...strange, but it’s not impossible. If they truly don’t have anything to do with the demonic humans, then it’ll be good. Otherwise..."

A sharp glint could be seen on his eyes as he muttered to himself.

He then shook his head in the next second, "I mustn’t jump to conclusions. Still, I feel like there’s something about them..."

"Let’s just see for now... I just hope that my suspicions remain as suspicions."

Closing his eyes, he whispered some prayers and muttered, "May the Goddess guide me..."

"He’s suspecting us."

Pandora whispered softly as she stared at the door.

"Absolutely."

Regis added as he laid his head back on the pillow while covering his eyes with his hand.

The man named Alexis seemed friendly and genuinely concerned about them, but he could feel something about the way he spoke to them.

"Anyways, it doesn’t matter. Even if he suspects us, suspicions are nothing but suspicions."

"But Brother..."

"Hmmm, why?"

"Why did he just not interrogate us straightforwardly?"

Hearing her question, Regis smiled slightly as he glanced over towards her, "I don’t know for sure, but..."

"...either he doesn’t want to taint his image as a Priest of Lemetina by accusing both of us without any grounds or that he wanted to be careful due to our talent..."

"Either way, it’s just him being careful so there’s really no use thinking about it too much."

Pandora nodded before posing a question again, "What are we going to do now...?"

"Hmmm..."

Regis looked at her and couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

"Why are you laughing?" Asked Pandora with a pout.

"Haha, it’s nothing. I can just tell what you’re thinking from the look on your face."

After calming himself down, he continued as he caressed her head, "You don’t need to worry, I’m tired of jumping from places to places too."

Looking at the luxurious ceiling, Regis let out a breath and spoke, "Let’s see if things will go our way. If it does, let’s stay here for a year or two, what do you think?"

"Yayyy!" Pandora happily exclaimed.

She felt especially happy due to the fact that they had always been on the move without being able to peacefully rest.

Therefore, the prospect of being able to settle down at least for a while and not have to constantly be on the move felt much appetizing to her.

Regis smiled and said, "Let’s check on Killian first later. I will need him if I want my plan to come true."

"What plan, Brother?" Tilting her head curiously, she asked.

"It’s something that I’ve wanted to do since back then. Nothing amazing, but..."

"...I want to create an Adventurer Party."

Looking at Pandora, he asked with a slight smile, "What do you think?"

Although she didn’t reply, just the sparkle in her eyes was enough for Regis to know what her response was.

Besides the fact that he, too, didn’t want to travel any more, he would treat this as his training grounds in preparation for his promise with Doron.

’I just hope that everything will be alright...’

Thi was all Regis had in mind as he stared at the door where Alexis left through earlier.
