Chapter 1234 607: One Per Day, But Only One

  • Next Chapter

The sunlight was blazing.

Reflecting the roaring sound of waves crashing against the ship's side, a salty sea breeze wafted over the deck, making the jet-black, shattered hair sway.

A tall, black-haired figure leaned diagonally against the railing on the edge of the deck, holding in his hand a premium fishing rod from a boutique tackle shop in Suo Yu Bay.

Fully armed, most of his body was protected under a set of armor with a faint reddish metallic sheen, looking perhaps not as muscularly robust as the barbarian or Half orc.

Yet standing there, he inexplicably gave off a feeling of calm and collected steadiness.

Only occasionally exerting force to lift the rod, accompanied by the slight friction sound of the bracelet accessory on his wrist, the rough dark red lining between the armor gaps briefly revealed the explosive muscular contours inside.

Though they had been together at sea for more than ten days now, the crew walking back and forth on the deck couldn't help but frequently cast their eyes towards the fierce figure who was currently gaining prominence in the Southern Islands.

Mr. Xia Nan, "Haiya".

How could the sailors not know the name of this captain standing before them?

To a certain extent, the reason most of them had willingly boarded the ship and took on this commission, traveling from the familiar Suo Yu Bay to the East Shore of the mainland, where there were few work opportunities in Salt Rock Port,

was not only because of the commission itself offering a salary far above the market average, but also because of Xia Nan's reputation.

Stopping the transcendental advancement ceremony of the Great Pirate "Algae Scale" Dodd, thwarting the long-planned summoning sacrifice of the Sha Hua Fishmen.

In the few days before departure, the most frequently mentioned word in the taverns throughout Suo Yu Bay was undoubtedly "Haiya".

Yet, in this crucial position on the edge of a storm, this Big Shot, who could even be described as leading a low-profile life, in contrast to those flamboyant figures of past years, only appearing in major restaurants and forests surrounding towns, chose to courageously retreat, directly leaving the Southern Islands.

Heading to a borderland unfamiliar to everyone on the ship.

Regarding this, they of course had their doubts.

But as the black-haired figure, appearing to treat the external rising undercurrents as nothing, showed up punctually on the deck each day to train and fish, he gradually became part of the journey.

Concerning the character of this "Haiya", and the reasons for his decisions, the crew seemed to gain an unspoken understanding.

"Zzzlah!"

The fishing line suddenly went taut, the rod that had been slightly bent due to Gravity suddenly arched extravagantly.

The sound was piercing, as if the rod would snap the next second, yet supported by its inherently highly resilient material.

"It's here!"

A youthful sailor with a faint circle of stubble on his chin, looking very young yet possessing nearly ten years of seafaring experience, couldn't help but direct his gaze toward the edge of the deck, even ceasing to move the mop he was holding.

Although he had seen this numerous times over the many days at sea.

When the moment a fish jumped finally arrived again, he couldn't help but pause to watch, even if for this he'd be scolded by the Boatswain later.

As always.

Like someone long accustomed to such encounters, the young adventurer clad in reddened metal armor demonstrated extraordinary composure.

Faced with the bent rod that seemed as if it were about to snap, his legs looked as if not exerting any additional force, yet his entire person appeared anchored to the deck, with slight exertion in his arm muscles causing the tight-fitting dark red lining to bulge prominently.

Twisting the wrist, retracting and releasing the fishing line.

Effortlessly dissipating the force transmitted from the rod to the arms.

Not even needing to battle with the prey long like seasoned anglers, in less than ten minutes, the enormous shadow below the water seemed to have all its stamina drained by that fine, almost transparent fishing line.

No longer struggling, leisurely floating upward.

Drawing the rod, a single exertion pulled it onto the ship's deck.

"Boom!"

Glittering water splashed, the surrounding sailors exclaimed in surprise.

Only to see a White scaled sailfish over three meters long, with a wide, thick back, being pulled down onto the deck heavily by the fishing line.

Separated from its ocean habitat, the massive sailfish sensed intense danger, thrashing about, its sword-like upper jaw piercing vigorously through the air.

With such a size, such power, should one truly be struck by this sharp point, even an ordinary adventurer active at sea, lacking adequate Equipment for defense, might find themselves pierced through.

Until a heavy leather boot, slightly damp, subtly distorting the surrounding air, came from the side to deliver a precise and swift kick to its head, causing the sailfish to twitch violently twice before lapsing into eternal slumber.

"Send it to the kitchen, treat it as tonight's special meal."

Retrieving the fish hook from the prey's mouth, Xia Nan called to the nearby spectators among the crew.

A cheer arose amidst the crowd, several sailors proud of their strong physique stepped forward, and jointly carried the sailfish into the cabin.

The youthful sailor stood at the rear of the crowd, the mop he was holding had also been jerked with power during Xia Nan's pull, seemingly exerting force alongside.

Not until he saw the sailfish lying motionless on the deck did he visibly relax with a click of his tongue in amazement.

Also watching nearby, noticing the young sailor's actions, an obviously more seasoned and older sailor spoke up:

"Hehe, if it wasn't Xia Nan himself holding the fishing rod, with such a big sailfish, swapping roles with any one of us on this ship, without cutting the line, we'd probably be pulled straight into the sea, rod and all."
