Global Survival: I Have Endless Skeletons
Chapter 598: Cressida... The Undead Army Unleashed.
With the arrival of the undead reinforcements, the balance of the battle shifted.
Th undead trapped by Cressida’s roots were finally freed as the newly arrived soldiers rushed in and tore through the thick tissue root.
A human might have struggled to recover after being attacked, restrained, and squeezed without rest for so long, but the undead were fundamentally different.
As long as their heads remained intact, they could keep fighting until their bodies were completely destroyed.
The roots could tear their flesh, crush their bones, rip apart their limbs, but none of it was enough to make them retreat.
They would keep fighting, keep advancing, and keep following Thoren’s command until the last piece of them was gone.
And the moment the undead Horn Lizard King broke free, its enormous body straightened and the cudgel in its hand rose without hesitation.
And it came down with terrifying force.
Boom!
A thick cluster of roots exploded apart and without hesitation, it stepped forward like a jugernaut.
Whoosh
It swing it cudgel in a wide arc.
Boom!
Another root group were smashed intto pieces.
Another stride, another swing.
Boom!
Everything in its path was crushed.
Before, the roots had chance to regenerate but this time, it gave them no opening to recover. Its weapon rising and falling continuously, leaving nothing but ruin in its wake.
Elsewhere, the undead Royalty Stonewall was equally free, the roots that had bound its massive body now scattered across the ground while it stood among them with its black blade in hand.
Whoosh!
It surge forward, swinging it blade.
Slash!
A thick root fell cleanly apart.
Before the severed tissue could regenerate, the blade had already moved again.
Slash!
The blade blurred through the air.
The undead Royalty Stonewall gave the roots no time to recover, each attack brutal and precise, targeting the thickest sections.
There was no wasted movement, no hesitation, just the undead advancing steadily.
Nearby, the undead Elite Jackal Beastmen’s situation had turned just as violent.
Freed from the roots that had bound half of its body. It lunged forward the moment its limbs came loose and swing it spike club
Bang!
A thick root ripped apart.
Bang!
Another exploded.
The spike club kept moving through the battlefield, tearing apart everything in its path with brutal efficiency.
It didn’t bother retreating from roots approaching its sides, simply moving toward them instead, smashing one that tried to wrap around its arm.
It duck beneath another aimed at its head and struck it from below. It spun its body to shatter several roots at once.
The chamber that had once being the domain of Cressida and her tree like roots body had now turned into siphony of chaos and brutality.
The roots were still numerous, still regenerating, still fast and terrifyingly flexible. But the undead had numbers now.
Wherever a root moved, an undead soldier was already waiting.
Wherever one rose from the ground, a weapon came down on it.
Whenever several tried to surround a single undead, others moved in immediately to cut them apart.
The thunderous sound of battle raged througout every corner of the chamber. The heavy impact of cudgels and axes, the crack of roots being smashed apart.
And at the center of it all was the enormous heartbeat of Cressida’s tree body still pounding through the room.
Boom.
But the heartbeat was growing harder to distinguish from the continuous thunder of the fight.
A few meters from the undead Horn Lizard King, the undead General advanced with his massive saber gripped in both hands.
Without any fanfare, it raised it massive saber and brought it down.
Boom!
A thick root directly ahead was cleaved apart.
Slash!
It didn’t stop as each swing carrying enough power to tear through anything in front of it. It moved through the battlefield like judgment itself.
Root or no root, everything in his path was destroyed.
When one lunged from the side; he turned and swept the blade horizontally.
Slash!
It fell apart.
Many more rose from the floor, and he brought the saber down with both hands.
Boom!
The stone floor cracked as several roots were cut apart at once.
He kept moving forward as his enormous body advanced like an unstoppable executioner, drawing closer with every step to the massive trunk housing Cressida’s body.
A few steps behind him, the three undead commanders bared their fangs. Their hollow sockets burns with eerie soul fire as they cut their way through the roots.
Weapons rose and fell again and again without pause.
One cleaved through a thick root and turned immediately toward another.
A second smashed a whole cluster apart.
A third charged straight through a mass of tendrils, tearing a path for the undead soldiers behind him.
Behind, dozens of undead Scorpion Men followed closely. Their weapon never stop moving and thier feet never stop moving.
It was terrifying.
Frigtening.
Kill machines in their finest.
Roots regenerated and the undead destroyed them again.
The undead army advanced, slowly and relentlessly with every meter gained forcing Cressida to extend more roots to meet them.
Dust fell from the ceiling as the repeated impacts shook the structure to it core. Pieces of stone breaking loose from the walls and crashing down.
The entire chamber was reaching its limit.
Yet the undead kept fighting.
They didn’t care if the ground cracked beneath them, and didn’t care how many roots Cressida regrew.
They only followed Thoren’s command.
’Destroy everything.’
Meanwhile, Cressida watched it all unfold as her eyes moved from one corner of the battlefield to the next.
She sawt the undead Horn Lizard King smashes through her roots and the undead Royalty Stonewall cutting them down before they could regenerate.
Unknonw to her, her expression had change, becoming grim. As for the previous confidence in her eyes, it ahd long vanished.
The disdain melted away without her knowing.
Her lips parted slightly as she stared at the undead army pressing forward through the storm of her own roots.
And for the first time since Thoren entered the chamber, she felt something she had never thought she was going to feel.
Fear.
