Chapter 904: Confession Booth
- Confession Booth
"You're awake?"
Mia sat beside the hospital bed, holding a book with a black cover in her hands.
"...Yeah, am I awake? I'm not entirely sure either."
Lin Ye climbed up from the bed and looked at Mia.
"Of course you're awake. Since you're awake, hurry back. You don't need to worry about the Dream World's problems... at least not for now."
Mia stood up and left the patient room.
Lin Ye glanced at the adjacent bed. The young girl who had been lying there the whole time was gone.
This might be related to the Dream World, or perhaps something had gone wrong on the Civilization Tower's end.
He lay on the bed for a while longer before finally choosing to return to the Shelter.
………………………………………Lin Ye climbed out of bed. After the Shelter space had been expanded, his pets no longer needed to squeeze in with him, though the Scapegoat and the Penguin Doll still liked to sneak under the covers.
The dark red biscuit tin remained in its original spot. He opened it, and it was still empty inside.
Lin Ye brought his pets to the Rest Area for a hearty lunch, then returned to the Shelter to begin studying those substances with special properties.
At two in the afternoon, Lin Ye took a walk around the city. This time he didn't go to the library, but instead headed deep into the city district behind it.
Perhaps he had chosen the wrong direction. After passing through alleyways that resembled a maze, the surroundings grew increasingly dilapidated and desolate as Lin Ye went deeper. It looked like a vast expanse of uninhabited ruins.
Lin Ye didn't approach those ruins. Although he could clearly perceive the internal structure of the ruins, he simply felt that it wasn't safe inside.
After walking for about an hour, Lin Ye discovered a run-down general store. An old man whose teeth were almost completely gone sat outside the store, waving at him.
"Young man, I have what you need here. Come over quickly."
Lin Ye smiled in response, but he didn't approach the general store. Instead, he quickly retreated and returned to the normal city district.
From that old man, Lin Ye had sensed a certain aura that made him uneasy.
Back at the Shelter, Lin Ye inserted the Exploration Mission Card he had received into the card reader.
[Identity Card--Blank detected. Import random identity?]
"Yes."
[Adding a title can affect the Exploration Mission and initial identity. Add a title?]
"Add title... Contracted Employee."
[Extracting Exploration Mission...]
[Exploration Mission extraction complete. Importing...]
[Import complete.]
Lin Ye's vision went black, and he completely lost consciousness.
……………………………………
Lin Ye opened his eyes. He was sitting inside a narrow space. There was no lighting in this space, but he could sense that it was a small compartment similar to a confession booth.
This confession booth was made of some kind of material that could isolate mental energy. Lin Ye couldn't perceive the outside situation either.
Spiritual energy was abundant in the environment, and the loot space could be used normally.
'So this time I'm a priest, and I have to listen to certain people confess on the other side?'
Lin Ye didn't like listening to others' confessions, but he still accepted this job.
Just as Lin Ye was pondering, the grille in front of him suddenly disappeared, and a blurry silhouette appeared on the other side.
"My arm is about to go out of control. I want to replace it with a new one that's compatible with my body."
The other party sent over a spiritual imprint.
"Is this a wishing well? What can you give me?"
Lin Ye sent back a spiritual imprint.
"...I've already paid the price!"
The other party immediately sent back a very agitated spiritual imprint.
"I'm just here to work. Explain what's going on first."
Lin Ye didn't conceal his identity. If the title wasn't wrong, then he was the Contracted Employee here. There was no need to hide it.
"...They even have temp workers here? I can't believe this. What tier are you? If you're no good, swap someone else in!"
The other party became even more agitated.
"I've killed a few Near-Gods. Ordinary Controllers can't last a second against me, but I'm also a spiritual energy user."
Lin Ye answered the other party's question honestly.
"...Sir, I was joking just now. You must be an envoy of some deity, right? I don't know where you are either. I'm currently conducting a secret ritual passed down since ancient times. I don't know which deity the ritual points to, but as long as I pay the corresponding price, the ritual will provide the help I need."
The other party replied very politely.
"But I haven't received any price... Fine, stretch your arm over here."
Lin Ye stopped discussing the issue of the price. If he was a Contracted Employee, then who his boss was had become quite obvious.
A severely alienated arm stretched over from the other side, wrapped in a high-tier flesh material. Lin Ye only glanced at it before alienating a brand-new arm with a stable structure.
"Done. Check and see if there are any problems."
Lin Ye leaned back in his chair, feeling the illusion of working overtime for free.
"That fast... This arm is simply perfect! Thank you so much!"
The other side sent several spiritual imprints in succession.
"Why did you trust me directly just now? Didn't you think I might be lying to you?"
The other party had backed down too quickly earlier, and Lin Ye wasn't quite used to it.
"Due to the mental contact, lying is impossible in this ritual. If you can lie without affecting the ritual at all, that means you're far stronger than me."
The other party answered Lin Ye's question very politely.
"Alright, is this the end?"
Lin Ye had roughly figured out the principle of this ritual.
"It's over. Many thanks."
The moment the other party finished sending the spiritual imprint, the grille closed.
Feeling somewhat bored, Lin Ye took out the high-purity Deep Well Substance he had obtained earlier and began studying its properties and structure.
Two minutes later, the grille opened again.
"Please help me deal with the cultists who have broken into this building, but you can't make too much noise."
A spiritual imprint came from the other side.
"What's the opponent's strength? If it's nothing special, you can stretch your hand over and I'll modify it for you."
Lin Ye could only solve the problem this way. Even with the grille open, his mental energy couldn't pass through. He could only transmit spiritual imprints.
"Can't you just come over? I've already prepared the body for you!"
The other side sent a somewhat urgent spiritual imprint.
"I can come over?"
Lin Ye used his mental energy to touch the gap and discovered that an extremely obvious mental passageway had appeared there.
"I've already agreed. Hurry up and come over! If you don't come, I'm going to die!"
The other party sent another spiritual imprint.
"Alright."
Lin Ye channeled his mental energy into the mental passageway. Soon, his mental energy entered a body.
