Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 893: Gathering Supplies
- Gathering Supplies
Lin Ye pushed open the door to the office. There wasn't a single person inside, and the supplies hadn't been completely cleared out.
"At least it's not empty."
He couldn't afford to pry open another door. If there had been no supplies here, he would have had to head back to the basement, rest for a while, and then come out again to search for supplies.
Lin Ye entered the office and closed the door behind him. After that, he lifted the carpet, but there was no wooden door to a basement underneath.
The supplies in the office were limited. Fortunately, Lin Ye managed to find an unused battery in one of the drawers.
He also found half a bucket of purified water, an electric kettle, some snacks, and a few bags of instant milk tea.
Lin Ye stuffed the snacks and milk tea into a bag, then grabbed the kettle and the water bucket, turning around to leave the office.
But when he turned around, he suddenly noticed that the door behind him had cracked open just a sliver.
He clearly remembered shutting the door tightly, and while searching for supplies just now, he hadn't heard a single sound.
There wasn't a single person in the office. Lin Ye set down the water bucket and pulled out the crowbar tucked into his coat pocket. The cold metal pressed against Lin Ye's palm. At first, it was a sensation bordering on pain, but soon, even the pain faded away.
He really missed his old pair of black gloves right now. Unfortunately, those had only been low-tier spiritual energy items made from mediocre materials, and they had fallen apart long ago from heavy use.
Not a sound around him. Lin Ye couldn't afford to stand here locked in a stalemate, so he could only approach the door step by step.
There were only two desks in the office. Just as Lin Ye moved closer to one of them, a dark shadow darted out from behind it.
The shadow moved with incredible speed, but before it could even burst out, Lin Ye had already prepared his counterattack.
After all, this office had limited space. There were only so many places where something could hide.
Lin Ye swung the crowbar fiercely, and its tip pinned the dark shadow to the surface of the desk.
While Lin Ye was swinging the crowbar, another dark shadow shot out from behind the opposite desk, flying straight toward Lin Ye's head.
Lin Ye swung the kettle at the shadow. Unable to dodge in midair, the shadow was knocked flying by the kettle and slammed into the wall.
At that moment, the shadow pinned to the desk began crawling along the crowbar toward Lin Ye's right hand. Lin Ye released the crowbar, took a step back, grabbed the water bucket, and used it to smash the shadow that had fallen to the floor into a pulp.
Lin Ye continued swinging the bucket, and pressing it against the crowbar, he smashed the shadow still pinned to the desk.
"Damn, good thing my reflexes are still sharp!"
Lin Ye steadied his breathing. Those movements just now had drained quite a bit of his strength.
Those two dark shadows were some kind of black bugs. Lin Ye had never seen this type of bug before.
"I need to get back as soon as possible. The commotion just now might attract other things."
Lin Ye grabbed the supplies and quietly slipped out of the office, returning to the corridor.
It was then that Lin Ye noticed the large door to the previous office was wide open. He had shut it tightly when he left, though he hadn't locked it.
"Damn! I hope nothing happened in there!"
Lin Ye hurried over to the office and glanced inside.
The carpet had been lifted, but the wooden door beneath it was still closed.
Lin Ye entered the office, locked the door behind him, and quickly stepped forward to open the wooden door.
Scarlatti and Little Guardian were still huddled around the electric heater, keeping warm. However, lying next to the ladder was a corpse that was still bleeding.
"Are you alright? Hurry, get in here."
Scarlatti let out a slight sigh of relief when she saw Lin Ye.
"Don't we need to drag that corpse outside?"
Lin Ye tossed the supplies in his hands down into the basement.
"No need. We don't have many supplies. That's our backup food."
Scarlatti replied.
"I'm not eating that thing."
Lin Ye entered the basement, pulled the carpet back over, and closed the wooden door.
"I don't want to eat it either, but I'd rather not starve to death."
To Scarlatti, as long as she could stay alive, none of that mattered.
"We don't need backup food. There should still be plenty of supplies nearby."
Lin Ye moved closer to the electric heater and briefly described the situation in the surrounding area.
He hadn't gone far, so he hadn't gathered much information.
"Not long after you left, this thing barged into the office. It probably caught our scent and quickly found the entrance to the basement."
Scarlatti also explained what had happened on their side.
Lin Ye examined the corpse. It was a mutated creature wearing a uniform, its body covered in inexplicable mutation organs. Before the mutation, it had probably been a staff member here.
"This looks like a security guard uniform... I still think we should throw the corpse out."
Lin Ye didn't dissect the corpse. He was afraid there might be something dangerous inside it, and the smell of blood could attract other monsters.
"Fine, give me your coat. I'll drag it out to the corridor."
Scarlatti decided to handle the corpse.
"Be careful. I'm worried there's something wrong with this corpse, and there should still be other things out there."
Lin Ye took off two coats. He had just come back from outside, and his body hadn't recovered yet. Even moving around was a bit of a struggle.
"I understand."
Scarlatti put on the coats. Grabbing the corpse by the back of its neck through a plastic bag, she dragged it up the ladder and pulled it out of the basement.
After another moment, Scarlatti opened the wooden door and returned to the basement.
She had dragged the corpse over to the other side of the corridor.
"I'm freezing!"
Scarlatti moved closer to the electric heater and took the cup of water Little Guardian handed her.
Inside was freshly brewed hot milk tea. While Lin Ye had been out, Little Guardian had used the electric kettle to boil some hot water.
"Thanks... This is really warm."
Scarlatti held the cup with both hands, taking small sips of the milk tea.
Lin Ye also took a sip of the milk tea. Staying close to the electric heater, his body warmed up a little.
"I plan to head out later to search for supplies and gather some information while I'm at it. We can't stay here forever, otherwise we'll very likely be killed by all those messy things out there. The Civilization Tower is the kind of troublesome force we can't afford to mess with."
Scarlatti understood their current predicament better than Lin Ye did. If they couldn't resolve this nightmare, they might never get out.
"I think we should secure our survival supplies first, then try to gather information. You might not realize how dangerous this nightmare is. There are a lot of dangerous things out there."
Lin Ye didn't advocate being too aggressive. As an ordinary person, there were countless things here that could kill them. So they needed to gradually understand the situation in the surrounding area.
"Alright, then I'll rest for a while first. When I wake up, you two can rest."
Scarlatti moved closer to the electric heater, wrapped herself in the coats, and curled up inside them.
"You can rest too. If there's any trouble, I'll call you."
Little Guardian looked at Lin Ye and spoke softly.
She wasn't skilled at fighting, but her senses were extremely sharp. She could notice dangerous things.
