867. Underground Parking Lot

The residential buildings were toppled like weeds by the shockwave of the explosion. The sky was filled with fine dust, and the buzzing and screams assaulted his eardrums. Lin Ye soaked his clothes with mineral water, covered his mouth and nose, and checked his injuries.

The good news was that he wasn't badly hurt.

The bad news was that red blotches had appeared on the exposed areas of his skin.

'A nuclear bomb? Or some kind of unknown radiation weapon?'

Lin Ye put on his prison garb, wrapped his head with clothing, and prepared to head out into the Ruins to look for the prison transport vehicle.

"Help... help..."

A cry for help sounded from the ruins behind him. Lin Ye turned around and found the source of the voice. The burly man and Old Black were buried in the rubble, but they were still in relatively good condition.

Skinny Monkey, however, was in a terrible state. Lin Ye could only find his lower half.

"My right leg has no feeling..."

Old Black was breathing rapidly, barely managing to crawl out from the rubble.

The burly man had also been hit by the shockwave, but he was lucky, and with his sufficiently sturdy body, the impact had only left him with some bruises.

"Let's go, he's a lost cause."

The burly man glanced at Old Black's leg, which was bent into a strange shape, and prepared to abandon him.

"It's just a fracture. I can do emergency treatment. The situation outside is unclear. Are you sure you want to go out alone?"

Lin Ye skillfully treated Old Black's lower leg. He was just an ordinary person now, and the more companions he had, the safer he would be.

"...Then hurry up. Something feels off about the situation outside."

The burly man imitated Lin Ye and found some clothes to wrap around himself.

"Thanks."

Old Black bit his lip, and sweat poured down his head.

"Don't mention it. The situation outside is absolutely terrible. You'll be lucky to survive."

Lin Ye used wooden boards and cloth strips to treat Old Black's lower leg, then found him a makeshift crutch.

"I know, but thanks anyway."

Old Black didn't need Lin Ye's help to walk. He quickly adapted to hobbling through the ruins with his crutch.

"The prison transport vehicle flipped over. Which direction should we head now?"

The burly man covered his mouth and nose as he walked over from outside.

"Follow me. I was observing the terrain of this area while I was driving. The center of the explosion is over there. We need to move in the opposite direction. There's an underground parking lot over there, and we can take shelter there for a bit to rest."

Lin Ye led the way, with the burly man following behind him. Old Black walked quickly, limping along behind the burly man.

The air was filled with fine dust, and none of the three spoke.

Lin Ye successfully found the entrance to the underground parking lot. Above the parking lot was the rubble of the mall. They were lucky - the underground parking lot hadn't collapsed.

"Cough, cough. Are we really going down there? What if it collapses?"

The burly man grabbed Lin Ye, looking at the entrance leading underground.

"That wasn't an ordinary explosion. We have to find somewhere to hide for a while, otherwise we won't last much longer.

I can detect the warning signs of a collapse. Before the parking lot collapses, I'll get you out."

Lin Ye walked into the underground parking lot, with Old Black following behind him. The burly man hesitated for a moment, then followed them down as well.

"What the hell is going on? Why was there an explosion? What kind of godforsaken place is this?!"

The air in the underground parking lot was relatively decent. The burly man caught his breath and shouted loudly.

"How would I know? Besides, we need to think about how we're going to get out of here."

Lin Ye checked his physical condition. The explosion earlier was extremely troublesome, and he didn't think there would be just one.

"There are intact cars here. We can drive out of this city."

Old Black stood next to a car, wrapped his fist with clothing, and punched through the car window.

As a veteran driver, Lin Ye had been looking for a drivable car ever since he entered the underground parking lot.

The burly man glanced at Old Black's lower leg.

"I'm fine. I can leave anytime."

Old Black leaned into the car and tried to start the engine.

When he was younger, he had stolen all kinds of vehicles. This was nothing for him.

"We'll wait until the white glow outside disappears before we leave. Otherwise, we might die halfway there."

Lin Ye began checking the supplies in the cars. He also planned to collect the gasoline from the other vehicles.

The burly man helped Lin Ye organize the supplies. Since this was the underground area of a mall, the car owners were all customers who had come to shop, so the supplies in the cars weren't that abundant.

"Who's there?!"

Lin Ye suddenly turned his head toward the parking lot entrance. He had detected a faint sound.

Old Black and the burly man both grabbed their weapons and looked in that direction at the same time.

They hadn't heard anything, but Lin Ye had already proven his abilities, so they wouldn't question him.

The parking lot was very quiet. There wasn't a single silhouette at the entrance.

Lin Ye narrowed his eyes and scanned the shadows near the entrance. Soon, he found something hiding in the darkness.

"It's in the shadows over there!"

Lin Ye warned.

Perhaps it noticed Lin Ye's movements, because the thing darted out from the shadows and lunged at Old Black, who was closest to it.

The burly man stepped forward quickly and hurled the steel pipe in his hand with all his might.

The steel pipe pierced through the creature's body, sending it flying.

Lin Ye rushed forward and drove his kitchen knife through the thing that was struggling on the ground.

It was a wolfdog covered in red blotches. Even with the kitchen knife pierced through its head, it still struggled on the ground for half a minute.

"What the hell is this thing? A wolfdog?"

The burly man didn't approach the wolfdog's corpse, and he didn't even want the steel pipe back.

"It might be some kind of mutated monster."

Lin Ye covered the wolfdog's corpse with cloth. If there was something that could cause a wolfdog to mutate, that same thing could probably cause humans to mutate too, so he wasn't planning to dissect the wolfdog's corpse.

"Shouldn't we get going? If the explosion can cause creatures to mutate, then the longer we wait, the more of these mutated monsters might be wandering around outside."

Old Black climbed out of the car. His skills hadn't gotten rusty. They could leave at any moment now.

"Then let's go. But you'd better put on several layers of clothing, or else you might turn into monsters before we even escape the city district."

Lin Ye started piling on clothes. There were plenty of jackets to be found in the parking lot.

The burly man and Old Black also started putting on layers. Old Black managed fine, but the burly man could only wrap the clothes around his body.

Once the preparations were done, the three of them got into the car. The burly man sat in the co-driver's seat, while Old Black leaned back in the rear seat.

Lin Ye started the car and drove out of the underground parking lot.

The outside was still filled with dust, but the white glow in the sky seemed to have dimmed slightly.

Lin Ye didn't need to distinguish directions at all. He knew exactly which way to drive.

However, he had no understanding of this city at all, so he needed to observe the surrounding terrain as he drove.
