Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 449: Preparing to Leave
Chapter 449: Chapter 212: Preparing to Leave
What Batubohe said was exactly what Li Ziyu was thinking. He feared that if he went there, he would be ambushed by those Strong Races. Instead of getting resources, he would end up suffering a major loss.
It wasn’t that Li Ziyu wanted to leave on a whim. It was because he had mass-produced a wave of units to deal with He Zhiping, and between that, previous construction, and research, the Soul Energy he’d gained from the war with the Cancerous Tumor Alliance Army had all but run out.
Ever since upgrading to a Fortress, Li Ziyu had discovered that his Soul Energy was becoming more and more insufficient. It was needed for everything, so he had to figure out a way to increase his income and reduce his expenditure.
Other resources, well, that was easy. At worst, he could just find a place and dig. But you couldn’t do that with Soul Energy. That stuff was hard to come by. The fastest way to get it was through war, and Soul Energy just so happened to be the core energy of the Undead Race. Without it, the Undead Race was done for.
But starting a war with the Strong Races of the Central Zone wasn’t a good option right now. He had only just upgraded to a Fortress, and during the earlier war with the Ratman Race, there had been quite a few Fortress Level Lords, yet they were still utterly crushed.
Frustrated, Li Ziyu picked up his teacup and drained it. He gave Batubohe a wry smile and said, “Brother Batu, I’m short on resources too. The resources here really aren’t enough.”
Batubohe was taken aback. He asked, perplexed, “You’re short on resources? All those Native Tribes have pledged allegiance to you, and that’s still not enough? Is the upkeep for Skeletons really that high?”
Li Ziyu shook his head and said, “Other resources are one thing, but the main issue is Soul Energy. It’s not a mineral; you can’t just mine it. Right now, I can only get it from corpses, relying on the system to break them down.”
Batubohe thought for a moment and nodded in understanding. Skeletons, getting useful resources from corpses—that was perfectly logical. It certainly wasn’t as easy to get as other resources. He then asked, “So what are your plans?”
Without looking up, Li Ziyu said in a low voice, “I don’t really want to start a war, but there are too many Lords like He Zhiping out there. They’re developing faster and faster, and they’ll eventually become a threat to me. More than I hate the idea of starting a war, I hate the idea of falling behind and getting pushed around.”
‘So that’s it. He’s planning to start a war.’
Batubohe raised an eyebrow, already understanding Li Ziyu’s intentions. He said seriously, “You can’t just rashly start a war. It will lead to great losses. I’ve already learned about your battle with the Cancerous Tumor Alliance Army, and I must remind you, in many cases, a battle of that scale is just a small skirmish.”
“This isn’t the world of your past life. The madness here far exceeds it. Wars on the scale of millions can break out at any moment. The real great battlefields of this world are on the scale of tens of millions, and there are even battlefields in the Void. You have to understand that once you start a war, if the attrition becomes too much, you’re really and truly finished.”
If Batubohe hadn’t said that, it would have been one thing, but his words made Li Ziyu laugh. He looked up, his smile tinged with a ferocity and wildness that made Batubohe tremble inwardly. ‘How can this guy’s smile be so terrifying?’
Li Ziyu leaned back, that terrifying smile plastered on his face, and seemed to muse aloud, “I’m not afraid of losses. The Undead Race isn’t afraid of losses. What I’m afraid of is that I won’t be able to stop myself… afraid that I’ll become a Demon.”
The Undead Race, afraid of war?
What a joke!
The Undead Race was arguably one of the few Races that loved and excelled at war the most, alright?
Although the Undead are not of the evil and chaotic alignment, being relatively neutral and orderly, there’s no denying that the Undead Race develops fastest in a state of war. The more things die, the stronger they become—the complete opposite of other Races.
The number of Low Level Skeletons is enormous, and their intelligence is very low, so the Undead Race doesn’t care how many of them die. But dead enemies provide the Undead Race with immense benefits—both their bones and their Soul Energy are exactly what the Undead Race needs.
Therefore, Li Ziyu really didn’t care about Batubohe’s warning. At worst, he would just trade Low Level Undead for High Level Undead. After wave upon wave of war, he might even find himself with an army composed entirely of High Level Undead.
The only thing that worried Li Ziyu was that he was afraid of losing his humanity, of completely devolving into a warmonger. That was the one thing he didn’t want to happen.
War isn’t something you can just start whenever you want and stop whenever you want. Once it begins, you’re no longer in control of your own fate.
Especially in a lawless world like this, it’s even easier for reckless madmen to emerge. Power blinds people and drives them mad. He had seen plenty of such lunatics in the world chat channel, people who would stop at nothing, frantically waging war for resources and strength.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to become stronger, but to do world-destroying things under the banner of self-strengthening—that’s not right.
Li Ziyu was no saint, nor was he some perfect pacifist. The Cancerous Tumor Alliance Army had crossed him, and he had gone to war. But deep down, he just wanted to be a slacker. Compared to war, he preferred to enjoy himself—there were so many girls in the Otherworld, after all.
But reality didn’t permit him to be like that. The Otherworld was full of guys like He Zhiping. If they were allowed to grow strong, the fire would eventually spread to his own doorstep. When that happened, whether he was willing or not, he would have to join the chaotic wars.
And rather than being dragged into war completely unprepared, it was better to find a way to become stronger in advance, to give his future self a better fighting chance.
Li Ziyu could see it clearly now. A time of chaos was bound to come. Lords and Natives could never coexist peacefully—war was inevitable. Likewise, Lords could not coexist with other Lords. Due to their different philosophies, war would eventually break out among them, too. It would be a time of utter chaos, an era where the strong would be king.
