Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 432 206: The Name of My Lord 3
Ten days passed in a flash.
After establishing the first Soul Base Station, Li Ziyu picked up the pace. Zhang Peng gave him a map, which Liu Xingxing then supplemented. Together, she and Li Ziyu planned out the locations for the Soul Base Stations.
With precise locations identified, the Undead Fortress's advance sped up. It would make a beeline for a marked position, drop off a base station, and then tear off toward the next.
At a rate of two per day, Soul Base Stations rapidly began to dot the Wasteland. Each one was guarded by a considerable number of Skeleton Undead to ensure it couldn't be easily destroyed.
Naturally, Li Ziyu's actions caused a stir across the Wasteland. The Undead had always kept to themselves in the Wraith Mountain Range, coexisting peacefully with the Tribes of the Wasteland. The Native Tribes were perfectly happy with this arrangement, especially since the Undead had recently crushed a malignant Race that had been plaguing them.
But the good times didn't last. The Undead were suddenly on the move, dashing back and forth across the Wasteland. The Natives had no idea what it meant. They watched stealthily from a distance, and the sight of the Soul Base Stations Li Ziyu was erecting only left them more bewildered.
They tried to get a closer look, but the moment they approached, swarms of Undead would materialize, sending the Natives scrambling for cover. For a time, panic and uncertainty reigned.
Li Ziyu neither knew nor cared what the Natives were thinking. His policy was simple: drop a Soul Base Station and move on. As long as the Natives kept their distance from the stations, the Undead wouldn't attack. 'As long as no one dies, the Natives won't make any major moves,' he reasoned. 'Once they get used to the Soul Base Stations, everything will quiet down, and eventually, they'll learn to coexist peacefully with the Undead.'
What did concern him was the Dragon Lizard Lord. Zhang Peng had been continuously gathering intelligence in an attempt to track him down. Unfortunately, despite numerous leads, the Dragon Lizard Lord was always long gone by the time Zhang Peng arrived. Sometimes, he would find the burned and slaughtered ruins of a Tribe; other times, just massive footprints. In any case, he was never able to locate the enemy's main force.
This confirmed what Li Ziyu had already suspected: his enemy was mobile. They had also dispatched large numbers of Dragon Lizard Cavalry to raid the Tribes. With the main force constantly relocating and the cavalry raids serving as a diversion, finding them was proving to be even more difficult.
The Skeleton Knights brought no good news, either. With so few Soul Base Stations deployed, the Soul Network's coverage was limited. This meant the Skeleton Knights had to return all the way to the Fortress or find a nearby base station just to transmit their reports.
They had already eliminated several squads of Dragon Lizard Cavalry, but just like Zhang Peng, they had failed to locate the main army.
The enemy was cunning, never staying in one place. Zhang Peng had tried to predict their movements, but to no avail. Their path was completely erratic—they moved all over the map, sometimes even doubling back on their trail. It was obvious they knew they were being followed and had adopted this unpredictable pattern specifically to keep Li Ziyu's forces from finding them.
There was some good news, however. With the help of Zhang Peng and the Skeleton Knights, numerous Tribes had escaped the plundering raids of the Dragon Lizard Cavalry. As a result, his name as the Master of the Undead spread quickly across the Wasteland, letting more Tribes know that Li Ziyu meant them no harm.
Of course, whether they actually believed him was another matter. Legends about the Undead were ancient and had created deeply ingrained notions in the minds of the Natives. It wouldn't be easy to change their minds overnight. 'Time will tell,' Li Ziyu thought. He was confident that as long as he acted with clear principles, the Natives would eventually be won over.
