Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 329 172: Head-on War (2)
Many Undead had their skulls smashed, their Soul Fires dissipating. This single volley of stones had cost Li Ziyu thousands upon thousands of Undead.
If his subordinates weren't Undead, but Humans, that single volley would have thrown the entire army into chaos. After all, Humans feel fear; no one would just stand there and watch stones fall on them without trying to dodge.
But as it happened, his subordinates were Undead—a Race that perfectly executed orders, a Race that cared nothing for death, a Race devoid of fear. So, as the stones rained down, they showed no reaction, letting the projectiles crash down upon them at will.
A few stones strayed from their original trajectory, landing farther away and smashing against the fortress's Light Armor Shields. They produced a series of sharp CRACKS, a sound that made Liu Xingxing and Zhang Peng tremble uncontrollably.
WHOOSH—
One stone, by a stroke of ill luck, flew through a gap between the shields, zipped past the Watchtower, and slammed into the platform's floor. Li Ziyu merely tilted his head to glance at it before turning his attention back to the battlefield.
A normal person experiencing such a scene for the first time should have been terrified. But for some reason, Li Ziyu was perfectly calm, perfectly rational. He had no intention of dodging, facing the stones head-on. It was as if he'd decided in his heart that the stones couldn't hurt him.
And in fact, that was true. Not a single stone hit the Watchtower; only that one had flown past it.
The reloading Speed of the simple Catapults was abysmal. After launching one volley of stones, it would be a long wait for the next Bombing. Palamede had no intention of waiting for the Catapults to be slowly reloaded; he gave the order to attack directly.
"Kill—!"
War cries suddenly erupted from the direction of the Alliance Army, and the Goblin Warriors at the forefront charged toward the Undead.
Li Ziyu just watched as the enemy broke formation, spreading out like a black line crawling toward his Undead positions.
"The battle begins!" Li Ziyu shouted, pumping his fists into the air, his face surprisingly wreathed in a grin.
At his shout, the vanguard Skeleton Undead Corps began to move. They strode forward, their formation unbroken, to meet the Goblin Warriors.
"Holy shit, the boss has gone crazy!" Liu Xingxing, who had just scrambled to his feet, looked up and saw the somewhat terrifying grin on Li Ziyu's face. He swallowed hard and said timidly.
He had never seen Li Ziyu in such a state—that excitement, that agitation, that fervor, and that smile on his face. He was like a warmonger.
'A madman. He's a complete madman!'
Amid Liu Xingxing's internal screams, the white phalanx of Undead collided head-on with the Goblin Warriors who were swarming in like a tidal wave.
"Kill them!"
"Take them down!"
"Charge!"
"Aaargh—"
The Goblin Warriors shrieked unintelligibly, swinging the blunt instruments in their hands and smashing them into the charging Undead.
The head-on collision was incredibly brutal. Goblin Warriors leaped up to smash the skulls of the Undead with their blunt weapons, while the Skeleton Undead impaled their bodies with their own Weapons.
In an instant, the battlefield turned into a meat grinder. The Undead perished silently, while the Goblin Warriors fell with horrific screams. It was utter madness.
Li Ziyu stared intently at the battlefield, his teeth clenched, yet the smile on his face only grew wider.
"B-Boss, are you all right?" Zhang Peng asked, stuttering slightly. Seeing Li Ziyu's expression, he felt just as uneasy as Liu Xingxing.
"Look, this is a real battlefield. Something a movie could never capture. This is the real Otherworld," Li Ziyu murmured, not turning to look at them.
'This... Has Li Ziyu actually gone insane?'
Zhang Peng grimaced. 'It's a battlefield, all right, and you're right that no movie could film this. After all, what movie hires hundreds of thousands of extras?'
'But the problem isn't the battlefield, is it? The problem is you, Boss! What the hell is up with you being so excited?'
The slaughter on the battlefield continued. The first phalanx of Skeleton Undead sent out could no longer hold back the Goblin Warriors. They were constantly pushing forward, smashing the Skeleton Undead's skulls or shattering them into piles of bones.
The Skeleton Undead couldn't stop them!
The goblins loved a battle where they had the advantage. They were the type to fight more fiercely the more they were winning. Seeing that the Skeleton Undead couldn't hold, they grew even more excited, howling as they charged forward.
From the rear, Palamede took all of this in. He immediately sent orders for the Goblin Warriors, Bear Goblins, and Giant Monsters to press forward and support the vanguard Goblin Warriors.
Palamede stood on high ground, giving him a clearer view. It was true that the front line had the upper hand, but the Undead outnumbered them several times over. Ahead of the Goblin Warriors were massive, layered phalanxes of Undead. The Goblin Warriors alone could never break through. Since they had the upper hand now, he had to press the advantage.
Upon receiving the order, the Goblin Warriors and Bear Goblins moved out. They weren't rushing; they deliberately suppressed their Speed and maintained their formation.
They weren't stupid. The Goblin Warriors at the front were already in disarray. If they just charged in recklessly, they would just be more cannon fodder. They were High Level Goblins; they wouldn't end up as cannon fodder like those other Goblin Warriors. They had to time it right.
Among the Alliance Army, a few behemoths also began to move. They were Desert Giant Monsters, four to five meters tall, with rough, gray skin. The only thing they wore was a Beast Hide wrapped around their waists. In one hand, each hefted a "Meteor Hammer" made of vines wrapped around a massive rock.
