Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 315 - 167: I’m Done Pretending (Part 3)
’Is this Magic?’
Before they could even process what was happening, the Speed Skeleton flung its arms wide. As if receiving a command, the cloud of feathers shot out with a series of WHIZZES. The Red Hat Goblins, as if riddled with bullets, stood frozen and trembled uncontrollably as feather after feather pierced through their bodies and flew off into the distance.
Once all the feathers had been fired, the Speed Skeleton clenched its fist and yanked it back. The feathers paused in mid-air for a moment, then spun around and flew back.
THWIP THWIP THWIP...
Droplets of blood bloomed like roses. The feathers returned, re-forming wings on the Speed Skeleton’s back before folding up and transforming back into a Bone Saber.
The Speed Skeleton stood in the center of the field. The five Red Hat Goblins around it stood rigid, their mouths agape, the light fading from their eyes. They collapsed to the ground, their life force completely extinguished.
The show was over.
The Goblin Commander witnessed this scene, and his blood ran cold.
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible! How could it have killed the Red Hats?!" He couldn’t believe his eyes. The Red Hat Goblins were their elites, their Assassins, a special unit said to be able to kill any target.
’Five Red Hats. A full five of them, killed just like that?’
’How am I going to explain this to the leader of the Alliance Army? Am I supposed to tell him that a single Undead killed five Red Hats?’
’The leader will never believe me!’
’No, this can’t be how it ends. I have to kill this Undead. Only by bringing its corpse to the leader will he believe what I say!’
"Move out! Close Guard! Goblin Wolf Riders! Move out and kill that thing!" The Goblin Commander shot to his feet, pointing at the Speed Skeleton—now standing alone in a goblin-free clearing—and shrieked.
The Goblin Close Guard and the Goblin Wolf Riders were also elite goblin units. They were few in number, but their combat prowess was not to be underestimated.
The Goblin Wolf Riders were one of the few Cavalry units the goblins possessed. Swift as the wind, these wolf-mounted goblins uniformly wielded a type of Great Saber known as "Plundering." The goblins had actually created this unit by imitating the Wolf Cavalry of the Beastman Race.
The Knights of the Goblin Wolf Riders were hand-picked from the best of the best. They couldn’t be too large, had to possess great Power, and demonstrate superior combat skill. Only after mastering the use of the "Plundering" Great Saber and undergoing years of training to achieve a perfect union with their wolf mounts could they join the ranks of the Goblin Wolf Riders.
They were so valuable that commanders were reluctant to deploy them in ordinary battles, generally reserving them for surprise attacks and lightning raids.
The Goblin Close Guard, no less formidable than the Wolf Riders, were a type of Heavy Armored Infantry. They wore thick Armor forged entirely from metal, with protection even for their eyes, and it even possessed magical defense properties. Wielding Two-Handed Swords, a single one of them could easily handle a hundred ordinary goblins without issue.
Normally, their duty was to protect important figures such as the goblin high command.
Under normal circumstances, the Close Guard would not be deployed for an attack. After all, their Heavy Armor restricted their movement. Their sole purpose was to protect important individuals, such as the Goblin Commander of the Vanguard Army.
But now the Goblin Commander had completely lost it. ’The Red Hat Goblins weren’t even my own troops; they were on loan! It would have been better if I had died instead of them, but they were killed by a single Undead! This is absolutely intolerable! I must capture that Undead, no matter the cost!’
’I don’t care how many Wolf Riders or Close Guard I lose. I have to kill that Undead.’
Upon receiving the command, the Wolf Riders and the Close Guard mobilized immediately, entering the battlefield.
However, their large size and lack of the Red Hats’ agility meant that as soon as they entered the battlefield, they got bogged down by their own troops. They could only shout and shove their way toward the Speed Skeleton’s position. By the time they arrived, the Speed Skeleton was long gone, having vanished without a trace.
The moment they entered the battlefield, the Speed Skeleton had already spotted them. ’They must be coming for me,’ it surmised. ’Why would I stick around? A head-on confrontation? That’s a job for the Physical Skeleton and the Power Skeleton. What does that have to do with me, the Speed Skeleton?’
