In fact, many of the Demonized Creatures planning to leave the city to hunt the Undead felt that the ones who died before hadn’t been outsmarted by the Undead, but were simply too weak. They, on the other hand, were different. They were confident the Undead couldn’t kill them.

Opportunities to grow stronger were rare. If they missed this one, whether there would even be Undead in the future was a complete unknown. They had no intention of giving up this chance.

When the gates of Komeilan City opened once more, the number of Demonized Creatures exiting was even greater than before. They poured out in massive, organized groups.

This new wave of Demonized Creatures was far more cautious than the last. After all, their "predecessors" had already risked it all, paying with their lives for the information they now possessed. It was only right to learn from their mistakes.

They chose to enter the tunnels in teams, avoiding acting alone. Each team had no fewer than ten members, and they maintained much closer contact. They also made a pact: if any team ran into danger, the others would do their utmost to provide support, not just stand by and watch the show.

After leaving the city last time, their lack of knowledge about the Undead, combined with misleading information, had caused the Demonized Creatures to swarm into the tunnels all at once. As a result, the Undead picked them off one by one, leading to devastating casualties. This time, they chose to advance methodically, moving in team by team and leaving a clear gap between each group.

The tunnels had many forks. With only a few thousand of them compared to tens of thousands of Undead, they weren’t worried about a shortage of prey. Their real priority was ensuring that allies could provide timely rescue, preventing an entire team from being wiped out after falling into a trap.

As the Demonized Creatures advanced, battle erupted in the tunnels. The Undead used their same old tactic: setting bait and waiting for the Demonized Creatures to bite. And while the prey did indeed take the bait, whether it could be devoured was another matter entirely.

The prepared Demonized Creatures were obviously much harder to deal with. The Undead suffered more casualties than before, but their harvest was smaller than the last time.

The three newborn Skeletons—the Physical Skeleton, Power Skeleton, and Speed Skeleton—wandered through the tunnels until they finally found the Dark Skeleton and the Frenzied Skeleton. The Dark and Frenzied Skeletons were delighted to have new companions. Even the Frenzied Skeleton, who was prone to erratic fits, was friendly toward the Physical, Power, and Speed Skeletons.

The Dark and Frenzied Skeletons had been trying to figure out how to hunt some of the more formidable Demonized Creatures. The two Undead had estimated that with their combat strength alone, it would be quite difficult. But the arrival of the Physical, Power, and Speed Skeletons gave them an instant surge of confidence. Their timing was perfect. With the five of them working together, they had more than enough power to turn the tables and hunt their pursuers.

In the dark tunnels, the Demonized Creatures’ reconnaissance abilities were far inferior to the Undead’s ability to sense Life Force. Furthermore, their methods of communication were nowhere near as efficient as the Soul Network. As soon as the creatures entered the tunnels, the Dark Skeleton’s group received intelligence and had already selected their prey.

The first target chosen by the Dark Skeleton was a Demonized Minotaur. This one, however, was different from the other Demonized Minotaurs—it was far more powerful. To the Undead, the Life Force of this Demonized Minotaur was like a blazing bonfire, vastly more potent than that of the other Demonized Creatures. A being with such an intense Life Force could not possibly be weak.

The Undead had their own method for judging strength, which was based on a creature’s life signature. They believed that the stronger the life signature, the greater the combat power. While not entirely foolproof, this method was correct about eighty percent of the time.

Once the target was confirmed, the Dark Skeleton began assigning roles. Other Undead had already completed the first round of reconnaissance, so it would conduct the second round itself to reconfirm the target’s status. The Physical Skeleton would be the main defender, the Frenzied Skeleton the primary damage dealer, the Power Skeleton the secondary damage dealer, and the Speed Skeleton the main assassin. The Dark Skeleton itself would serve as the secondary assassin.

As the Dark Skeleton held the highest status among them, the other Skeletons raised no objections, accepting the roles he had assigned.
