Chapter 285 - 157: Change in the Tunnel

"Me? What did I deceive you about? Don’t you dare spout such slander!" White Hair Pulan pointed to himself, roaring in a voice even angrier than theirs.

"Those Undead aren’t idiots at all, and they weren’t gathered together! They lured us into the tunnels, and we fell into an ambush!" The Demonized Jackal Wolfman was stunned for a moment by White Hair Pulan’s reaction, but he quickly recovered and roared again.

"Hahaha... Impossible! The Undead aren’t that smart. No one knows the Undead better than I do." White Hair Pulan didn’t believe the Jackal Wolfman’s words at all. He sneered inwardly. ’This guy must have failed to beat the Undead and didn’t get any loot, so now he’s trying to shake me down. I’m too smart to let you get away with it.’

White Hair Pulan’s words sparked dissatisfaction among the Demonized Creatures, and they began to clamor again. They had all been ambushed by the Undead. Their squads had been almost completely wiped out, with only a handful escaping.

White Hair Pulan didn’t believe it when one or two of them said it. But when a hundred or so people were all saying the same thing, each bearing different injuries, he had no choice but to believe them.

"What about the City Defense Army? Haven’t they returned yet?" White Hair Pulan asked, looking at a nearby military officer.

"No word. They haven’t returned to the city," the officer said, shaking his head.

At this point, the officer also had a bad feeling. Normally, some news would have arrived by now. Their orders were to scout the tunnels. Knowing the nature of the City Defense Army, they would have sent a message back the moment they found any trace of the Undead. But now, not only had the City Defense Army failed to return, there hadn’t even been a single message. This meant there was very likely a real problem in the tunnels.

"Alright, I understand. You’re all dismissed. There’s no need to panic. Don’t believe in rumors; the Undead aren’t that clever." White Hair Pulan thought for a moment, then waved his hand at everyone, motioning for them to leave.

The Demonized Creatures were still dissatisfied, but what good would it do? They were only Commoners.

After everyone had left, White Hair Pulan fell into deep thought.

’What the hell are these Undead up to? Why are they different now?’

He was now almost certain that the City Defense Army wasn’t coming back; they were probably all dead in the tunnels. And what the escaped Demonized Creatures had said was most likely true as well.

’So, those mindless Undead are playing strategy games with us now?’

’Could it be that the Undead actually want to occupy the tunnels and make it so our people never dare to enter again?’

White Hair Pulan felt a sense of crisis, but he was constantly scheming about how he could gain the greatest benefit from this situation. Crisis always came with opportunity. If handled correctly, this might not be a bad thing at all.

But he didn’t have enough intelligence right now. He needed more information.

’Hmph. I’ll have to send more people in. As for whether anyone will go hunt Undead in the tunnels again, I’m not worried at all. I know these greedy Demonized Creatures best. Those bastards would never pass up such a good opportunity. They’ll go, even if they know there’s an ambush.’

「In the tunnels.」

The Undead were still busy with their own tasks. Their strategy for the day was the result of a discussion between the Dark Skeleton and the High Level Skeleton Undead. The Dark Skeleton was not an Undead who enjoyed direct confrontation. It preferred to use schemes and tricks, relishing the helplessness and despair of its enemies before their deaths.

Direct confrontation was something for a brute like the Frenzied Skeleton. It was artless and resulted in heavy losses. The Dark Skeleton was extremely disdainful of it.

Thanks to its simple and practical strategy, they had easily hunted many Demonized Creatures. ’The Master must be very pleased,’ it thought.

’As long as the enemy doesn’t invade the tunnels on a large scale, I have no intention of starting an all-out war. I’ll just keep playing dirty. If they’re not happy about it, they can send more people. If they send too many, then we’ll have a full-scale battle and let that brute, the Frenzied Skeleton, take them on. Heh heh, perfect!’

The Dark Skeleton was quite satisfied with its own actions.
