Chapter 282 - 156: Permission to Leave the City

’Where are the Undead?’

’Don’t tell me we’ve been tricked?’

The Demonized Creatures, who had intended to go on a killing spree, were stunned. Weren’t there supposed to be hordes of Undead in the passageways? Why were they all gone? This wasn’t what they were promised.

"They must be afraid of us!"

"Right! Let’s spread out and find them!"

"Everyone, still be careful. We absolutely can’t let ourselves get surrounded."

"Only a fool would get surrounded. We won’t."

...

The Demonized Creatures were unwilling to give up. They had gone to so much trouble to travel here from other Underground Cities. Returning empty-handed was unacceptable.

Since there were no Undead in the plaza’s passageways, they must be in the tunnels further back. As long as they looked, they were bound to find them.

Some of the Demonized Creatures did propose a conspiracy theory, feeling that the Undead had set a trap and were waiting for them to take the bait. However, the Demonized Creatures in charge completely dismissed the idea. After arriving in Komeilan City, they had gathered intelligence on the Undead from all over.

Lord Komeilan had clashed with the Undead twice. Those Undead were completely mindless beings. Inside their skulls was nothing but a Soul Fire that made them stronger. In battle, they would just charge head-on, not knowing when to run, let alone understanding strategy.

The only reasons they had failed the last two times were because the enemy’s numbers were several times their own, and because there were powerful Undead among them.

The idea of the Undead using schemes and plots was unrealistic. They found it more plausible that the Demonized Creatures in Komeilan City had tricked them.

Several thousand Demonized Creatures dispersed, melting into the underground passageways to search for any trace of the Undead. They felt this was actually better. Not only could they obtain Soul Fire to strengthen themselves, but they could also experience the thrill of the hunt. It was killing two birds with one stone. They treated this operation as a form of entertainment.

A ten-man squad of Demonized Creatures walked through a passageway. The squad included Minotaurs, Giant Demons, and Jackal Wolfmen. They were from various Races, thrown together temporarily, and were all extremely confident in their own strength, making no effort to conceal themselves.

The Jackal Wolfman’s ears twitched. He said to his teammates, "Do you guys hear something?"

Upon hearing this, the other Demonized Creatures immediately grew alert, listening to their surroundings. And indeed, they heard a sound—the roar of a Demonized Beast. Someone was fighting up ahead.

’The Undead!’

The creatures’ eyes lit up. They exchanged a glance and immediately ran toward the source of the sound.

When they arrived, they saw it was just as they expected. The Undead were fiercely battling a Demonized Beast. A dozen or so Undead had surrounded a Giant Tusked Boar and were attacking it relentlessly.

The ten Demonized Creatures didn’t rush forward. Instead, they observed carefully. It was their first time seeing the Undead. Although they were arrogant enough to believe the Undead were no match for them, they didn’t advance recklessly, intending to size them up first.

The Undead seemed not to have noticed them at all, continuing to attack the Giant Tusked Boar on their own.

"These guys are so dumb. We’re standing right here and they haven’t even noticed."

"Yeah, and their Attack Power is pathetic. It’s just a Giant Tusked Boar, yet it’s taking a dozen Undead this long to fight it."

"Hahaha, I’m dying! The Undead are actually just Skeletons. They’re so fragile. One charge from the Giant Tusked Boar and they fall into a pile of bones."

"Alright, let’s make our move."

The Demonized Creatures chuckled amongst themselves, then suddenly sprang into action, charging toward the Undead attacking the Giant Tusked Boar. The expressions on their faces instantly twisted into savage snarls.

The Giant Demon raised a Javelin and hurled it with all its might. The Minotaur brandished a thick stone club, and the Jackal Wolfman swung its Sword... But none of them noticed several Soul Fires suddenly flaring to life in the Darkness.

The Demonized Creatures focused their attention on the Skeleton Undead, just as the Skeleton Undead focused their attention on the Giant Tusked Boar. The difference was, the Skeleton Undead had long since detected their life signatures, while the Demonized Creatures had genuinely failed to notice the Skeleton Beasts hiding in the shadows, their Soul Fires concealed.

The Dark Skeleton Desert Wolves shot out from the shadows without a sound. Their Speed was incredible, and they pounced on the unsuspecting Demonized Creatures with the force of a thunderclap, giving them no time to react...
