Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree

Chapter 70 - 52: Red Calamity Treasure Chest

Chapter 70: Chapter 52: Red Calamity Treasure Chest

After concluding the battle in the Land of White Bones, Lin Yu led his people back to the territory.

He instructed everyone to rest for a few days, having no plans for any more large-scale expeditions for the remainder of the month.

If he couldn’t get a good Recruitment Office from the chest, Lin Yu had no intention of competing for the number one spot this month.

The territory’s soldiers had been fighting continuously for some twenty days, and most of them ended up injured. Lin Yu’s conscience wouldn’t let him rest if he didn’t give them a break.

’Even in a video game, you’d pull your low-HP units back to base to heal up after a fight.’

After dismissing everyone, Lin Yu returned to the Lord’s Mansion, where the Epic-quality Red Calamity Treasure Chest was now lying quietly in the main hall.

Seeing this large treasure chest glowing with red light, Lin Yu felt an excitement he hadn’t felt in a long while.

All the warriors in his territory had fought hard for over twenty days to obtain this. Meanwhile, other lords were happily occupying Recruitment Offices, recruiting soldiers, and increasing their combat power scores.

Only he had sent his forces to relentlessly overcome one undead guardian after another and destroy those Undead Buildings.

During that time, he had considered sending his soldiers in a different direction, especially after collecting 100 Universal Building Fragments to construct the Druid Temple.

In the end, however, he trusted his intuition and had his troops press on with the fight.

Fortunately, luck was on his side. He successfully obtained the red chest after destroying all the Undead Buildings.

Now, he no longer cared about the February combat power rankings. Even if he took first place, the reward was just a gold treasure chest—nothing compared to a red one.

With his heart full of excitement, Lin Yu opened the red treasure chest.

[Opening Red Calamity Treasure Chest...]

[Congratulations! You have obtained one hundred "Bountiful Resource Packs"!]

[Congratulations! You have obtained "Recruitment Scroll (1000 units)" x10!]

[Congratulations! You have obtained "Universal Building Fragments" x10,000!]

[Congratulations! You have obtained one "Red Building Blueprint (Specified)"!]

[Congratulations! You have obtained two "Adaptive Research Blueprints"!]

[Bountiful Resource Pack]: ...

[Recruitment Scroll (1000 units)]: ...

[Universal Building Fragments]: ...

[Red Building Blueprint (Specified)]: ...Guarantees the resulting building blueprint will be of Epic Tier (Red).

[Adaptive Research Blueprint]: ...

All in all, the haul was pretty good. It contained far more items than a gold treasure chest, and the quality was a definite step up.

He tossed the hundred Bountiful Resource Packs and ten Recruitment Scrolls (1000 units) directly into his personal inventory for safekeeping.

He deposited the ten thousand Universal Building Fragments into his Territory Core, bringing his total to 11,400.

Next up was the main event: the Red Building Blueprint (Specified) and the two Adaptive Research Blueprints.

Lin Yu chose to use the "Red Building Blueprint (Specified)" first, designating the building type as "Recruitment Office."

After the recent battle, Lin Yu felt that his territory’s troop composition needed strengthening, which was why he was choosing another Recruitment Office.

[Description]: From life to death, death is reborn. From death to life, life is reborn.

The Vein of Life is a special comprehensive building formed from the roots of a High-level Extraordinary Tree.

It establishes a cycle of life for the territory, from life to death, and from death back to life.

Fallen leaves return to their roots, withered branches sprout anew.

[Construction Prerequisite]: One Epic-tier, large tree-type building.

[Special Effect 2]: Soul Repose. The souls of the territory’s inhabitants, soldiers, and heroes are bound to the Vein of Life, ensuring no soul is left adrift. When an inhabitant, soldier, or hero dies, their soul returns to the Vein of Life.

[Special Effect 3]: Rebirth. Death is not the end, but a new beginning. When certain conditions are met, the souls of the dead will fight for the territory once more.

[Special Effect 4]: Shadow of Death. The territory now possesses Death Energy, increasing the chance of living creatures falling ill, growing weak, or dying.

All three choices were Natural-type Wonder buildings, leaving Lin Yu deeply conflicted.

In terms of the sheer power of its recruitable units, the Giant Rock Sanctuary was number one. It offered one Red, two Gold, and one Purple—four powerful unit types. With this, plus some Universal Building Fragments to build related low-tier support buildings, he could definitely assemble a massive army.

For unit versatility, the Natural Fortress was the clear winner. With one Red, one Gold, one Purple, two Blue, and two Green units, it had everything: defensive, melee, ranged, and support. It was the full package. If this were on the market, anyone would sell their house and home to buy it.

For Lin Yu, however, it wasn’t as useful. The three types of Gold-tier Druids from his Jade Sanctuary already covered all those bases. He wanted another Recruitment Office mainly to increase his army’s diversity and secure the number one spot in the second month.

With the Natural Fortress, aside from the Jade Dragon, the other units were somewhat redundant for him.

Finally, there was the Vein of Life. In terms of overall utility, it took the cake. It only offered three unit types—one Red, one Gold, and one Blue. Going by the units alone, it was only slightly better than a Gold-tier Recruitment Office.

But the Vein of Life’s other functions were incredibly powerful. The continuous healing aura, the soul repose, and the soul recycling were all fantastic, even if he wasn’t sure how the recycling worked yet. The only downside was the debuff it applied to the territory, which was a bit unsettling.

However, death was an excellent complement for the World Tree. For Lin Yu, who was well-versed in all kinds of myths, the cycle of "Life → Death → Reincarnation → Rebirth" was essential for a complete world.

If his territory were centered around a Tree of Life, he would never even consider adding Death Energy to it, especially not from an Epic-tier death-aspected building, which ranked just below the Mythical tier.

But Lin Yu’s Territory Core was the World Tree. ’And for a world,’ he mused, ’isn’t death a perfectly natural part of existence?’

If his territory had a death attribute, Lin Yu believed that even if he recruited Undead Units, his soldiers’ morale wouldn’t drop. (Probably.)

Between the Giant Rock Sanctuary and the Vein of Life, Lin Yu hesitated...
