Chapter 310: Chapter 5: Research Institutes and Academy (Part 2)

They could also study the various Spirit Fruits that had mutated in the territory, research how to artificially induce more Spirit Plants, investigate their myriad functions and applications, and research methods for artificial cultivation.

A Spirit Rune Research Institute would primarily focus on thoroughly researching the runes Lin Yu redeemed, thereby unlocking the corresponding basic Rune Technology on the Technology Tree.

After that, they would research how to combine various basic runes to develop High-Tier Runes, Composite Runes, three-dimensional runes, and various other rune applications.

The last one, a general-purpose Comprehensive Technology Research Institute, could research all known scientific projects within the territory.

It would primarily target the various technologies appearing on the Technology Tree, from conventional fields like sociology, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, military science, mechanics, electronics, energy, and materials, to more unusual technologies like virtual tech, Spiritual Technology (including the Path of the Stars), Magic skills, and runes.

Research conducted within it would receive a bonus, and there would also be a chance to obtain new research projects (at random; these could be from the Technology Tree or entirely new). With this bonus, they might even be able to develop more skills related to the Path of the Stars.

Most importantly, these four research institutes could conduct not only theoretical research but also applied research, combining various theories and applying them to real-world objects.

...

Having decided on these four research institutes, Lin Yu compared the architectural drawings (single-use) and the architectural blueprints (which unlock the building in the Territory Heart’s construction list for unlimited use) sold in the point shop.

Although the architectural drawings for the research institutes cost only one-tenth the price of the blueprints, he considered that the territory would continue to expand, the World Vein Branches would explore other planes, and he would likely need to build more research institutes in the future. So, after a moment of consideration, he chose the architectural blueprints.

Then, in a rare move, Lin Yu disengaged his avatar from its merged state with the World Tree Territory Heart. He detached himself from the Territory Heart (in a deep merge, the avatar’s physical body had also entered it), then took the four blueprints and used them. Immediately, he saw the four research institutes appear in the construction list provided by the Territory Heart.

Next, Lin Yu sent a message to the Government Affairs Center.

He then had his avatar re-enter the Territory Heart, once again achieving a state of deep fusion with the World Tree.

Lin Yu then switched his perspective to his main body. His main body was also observing the entire territory through its connection, but unlike his avatar, everything it perceived was accelerated.

The 50:1 time-flow ratio didn’t change just because his main body was communicating with the Territory Heart. But that was for the best.

Switching between his main body and his avatar felt just like playing a game.

When he wanted to perform meticulous operations, plan the territory, or make detailed observations, he would switch to his avatar and work on a 1:1 time scale.

When he didn’t want to wait for the territory to develop slowly, he would switch to his main body. At a 50:1 time-flow ratio, it was like hitting fast-forward. In the blink of an eye, the territory would undergo many changes, and buildings would spring up rapidly.

...

After Lin Chenxi finished teaching the little sprites and holding a class for a select group she was training to be lecturers, she returned to her office in the Government Affairs Center. She planned to finish the day’s work and then inspect the progress of various projects.

Her eyes shot wide. !!!

Then, on her desk, she saw a long-unseen command order from the Lord.

’A command from the Lord?’

’Could the Lord have returned?’

’No, if the Lord had returned, he would have summoned us for a meeting first.’

Lin Chenxi stopped herself from rushing toward the Lord’s Mansion. She calmed herself and examined the command order on her desk.

Chenxi, it’s been a while.

Although I can’t enter the territory right now, I can still communicate with it and observe the territory and all of you through the World Tree.

You’ve all done a wonderful job. Thank you for your contributions to the territory.

While observing, I noticed the territory was lacking some important buildings. So, I bought some blueprints and unlocked the architectural drawings for a few research institutes.

Next, you need to urge the City Construction and Planning Bureau to have Xia Luo and her team build these four research institutes as soon as possible: the Mechanical and Magical Engineering Research Institute, the Spiritual Energy and Plant Ecology Research Institute, the Spiritual Power and Rune Research Institute, and the Comprehensive Technology Research Institute.

After they are built, reassign the researchers from the Wisdom Library to these four institutes. Assign them to the different institutes according to their areas of expertise.

...

After reading the order, knowing the Lord was still watching over her filled Lin Chenxi with even greater motivation. She immediately sat in her office chair, pulled up the construction list, and sure enough, she saw the four newly unlocked research institutes. Using her authority, she materialized a copy of the architectural drawings for each and sent them, along with an urgent construction order, to the City Construction and Planning Bureau.

When Xia Luo of the City Construction and Planning Bureau received the order, she immediately mobilized personnel to begin expedited construction...

From Lin Yu’s perspective, next to the testing grounds in the middle-tier region, the four research institutes and their supporting facilities were rapidly constructed. They went from nothing to completion in just a few hours (main Cosmos time).

After the research institutes were completed, the researchers from the Wisdom Library all moved into the four new facilities.

Their previous research had all been based on the Technology Tree unlocked by the Wisdom Library; in reality, it was a rather unsystematic approach.

The so-called research effort was little more than an administrative order that gathered the territory’s brightest minds and left them to rely on their own ingenuity, talent, and hard work.
